[open] Minoru just made contact with his father.

He'd gone to the holodeck to train, setting the location on random rotation to up the difficulty. What he wasn't expecting was for one of those locations to look just like the master bedroom of the Hokage's residence, the home he'd grown up in. And sitting up in bed was none other than his father.

Minoru stopped his kick, mid-attack, barely tumbling out of the way of the bed. He leapt back to his feet even faster.

"Papa?!" He exclaimed. "What? How?!"

"Dimensional traveling was always your mother's area of expertise. Not mine." Itachi Uchiha smiled softly. "Perhaps this is something you did."

At the mention of his mother, his heart ached. Over four years had passed since his death, and still, he grieved that loss. It had been about a year or so since he last visited Konohagakure, and in that time, his father was starting to look a little more like his mother, and not just because they were different versions of the same person from alternate realities.

"Are you feeling all right?" Minoru asked.

"I've been tired lately." Itachi replied with a gentle sigh. "A bit of trouble with my heart. But Sasuke is looking after it."

Minoru nodded. His father was born with a heart condition. Managing it came with a natural progression of ebbs and flows. It was what led to his retirement a couple of years ago, when Isamu took over as the village leader. Since then, it seemed, Itachi had aged considerably.

"Uncle Sasuke always has."

"He's doing fine, by the way. Still chasing after Dr. Haruno, to no avail. Your Aunt Sasuke came to visit as well, so your cousins could watch Isamu host his first Chuunin exams. The ANBU were actually on high alert, just in case you decided to make one of your famous entrances."

"I thought Konoha wasn't up on the rotation for two more years." He scratched his head. "Otherwise I would have come back!"

"Amegakure is in the midst of a violent shift in government. Nothing Isamu hasn't been able to negotiate around. And nothing that has stretched beyond its borders."

That was the real reason for the high alert. Minoru couldn't help but cock a smile at his father's reminder of the good old days.

"I'm on a giant city flying in space." He replied, something his father didn't even have the technology to comprehend. "Investigating natural energy, new species of snakes, actually learning to conserve my powers for once."

At that, Itachi raised an eyebrow. He could tell just by looking at his son that he was still a giant ball of chakra.

"My seal doesn't absorb natural energy in space. Probably because there isn't any. But we stop on different planets from time to time, and I can catch up."

Itachi's jaw dropped. It was a testament to his other son's genius that the abrupt changes in natural energy and environment hadn't petrified Minoru. Or worse.

"Knowing you, you've probably gotten into all kinds of messes I don't want to know about."

Minoru scratched his head. He didn't even have to answer.

"I finally managed to make it back to the World Between Worlds. For the first time since..." His voice fell. For the first time since his mother's death.

"Did you see your mother?"

"No..." He shook his head. "I know he must be there, but it's like looking into a giant sky and trying to find one star. I'm studying everything I can here, trying to make good on my promise, but..."

"Come now, where's the confident warrior who challenged me for that necklace when he was just four years old. Or the little nighttime trickster who snuck past every single guard patrol when he was eight. You want it bad enough, right? You'll make it happen." Itachi laughed lightly. "You'll find us both there one day, and we'll all be together again."

Minoru couldn't help but grin at the mention of some of his childhood escapades. Or his father's calm words and dignified wisdom. There was a reason his reign as Hokage had been long and prosperous. It was the same reason that he was such a great father.

"But next time, I get to bear the children, all right?" He teased. "It's only fair."

"Wait, really?"

"Maybe just one at a time... You two were such a handful."

The timer rang, and Minoru's randomized setting changed on cue, taking his home and his father with it.

That... That was enough working out for today, Minoru decided. He suddenly had quite a bit to think about, especially a certain promise he's now made to both of his parents.

[feel free to find him after the fact!]

It feels like it's been a while since they last ran into each other. Raiden's been keeping busy between taking classes, his brother, and getting a better feel for the ship in general.

He still makes regular rounds of the corridors when things are slow (which is still pretty often), but the healthy glow in his eyes increases visibly when he sees someone he considers a friend, even given the short time they've known each other.

"Minoru. I am pleased to see you. How are you doing?" Raiden doesn't have a father, so Q is actually leaving him out of these particular shenanigans.

That was certainly not like Minoru to not hear Raiden's greeting, so the Thunder god stops in the hallway, making certain he does not run into Minoru, but showing concern in his expression. The Sage's words further enlighten Raiden as to the cause of the distraction, but only to a point.

"Real? Is everything all right?" What could cause someone to be so transported? Raiden wonders if Q has a hand in it, but leaves his guesses open considering there are so many strange beings on board who seem able to affect the other inhabitants freely.

"I am sorry to hear your father is not doing well." Raiden's words are heartfelt as he looks at Minoru with gentle concern. The Sage was most certainly someone the Thunder god thought of as a friend. He didn't know his father, but he knew goodness was as much a part of upbringing as natural inclinations.

"Is there anything you need?"

Raiden is surprised to hear Minoru's request, but he listens quietly as his mother's dying request is explained. He isn't certain if there really is anything he can do, his godhood is restricted to Earthrealm, not the Heavens or Netherrealm. But he would do what he could, even it was just support.

"What would you ask of me?"

"To manipulate souls?" His expression turns troubled at the question. Minoru's request seems benign, but such things were usually only practiced by dark Sorcerers where Raiden is from. He's coupled his energies in the past to return souls to the living, but it was not a magic he practiced.

Minoru had experience with dark magics it seems, but Raiden did not get the sense they were something he willingly practiced. Even Raiden had done things he regretted, and the troubled expression mellows into one of gentle concern for Minoru. Once he clarifies his request though, Raiden nods in his new understanding.

"They wish to be reunited in their next life." There's a flicker in his eyes, this was completely different than any of the dark magics Shang Tsung or Quan Chi might have practiced. It was endearing to see, honestly. Of all things mortals could request, the opportunity to continue a connection between souls in their next life was really quite reasonable, and something worth supporting.

"But the path needs to be provided." He observes. If Minoru is capable of such a feat, it's a rare ability in mortals and one all gods would watch carefully. It could so easily be used in other ways, but his time with Minoru indicates his intentions are good.

That border between realities would introduce a whole other level of interest, and difficulty, to Minoru's idea once Raiden learns of it. His expressions softens into one of the kinder, guiding expression that goes with being so attached to mortals through his station as protector of Earthrealm. Minoru's parents had much faith in their son, and it reminds him of his faith in Liu Kang. He believed he would be able to surmount any challenge he faced.

"Such requests are usually left in the hands of the Elder gods, but if they are reincarnated at the same time, I see little harm in the idea of seeing that their souls meet again. It's clear they have much faith in you, Minoru." That, and Minoru is from a completely different reality. While Raiden is wary of such incredible power, if used wisely it could help with universal balance.

"I do not personally have experience with this sort of thing, my duties are elsewhere in the realm. If you are looking for further work with natural energy however, I can try to help there. I have been teaching the mortals of my realm to use their own natural energies for many years, and what help I have to give, you may have it."

"Excellent. I have already agreed to escort Queen Ailysha to the planet, and intend to meet Fujin there to help with the drought. You are welcome to join me as soon as you are able. After we bring the rain to the colony, I should have the time to dedicate to any help I can provide to you." Raiden walks up and sets a supportive hand on Minoru's shoulder with a nod.

"We will make the most of the time available to us."

"I do not mind. When the Prince has his Queen, we will be free to work." He took his hand off the Sage and departed, to go attend to matters of his own.

The daylight brought plenty of work indeed, with sowing and repairs. There was much work to be completed before the rains could be brought, and the fields were not yet ready for the life giving water to be brought for maximum effect. Tonight there was no rain and Raiden finds Minoru beside a campfire, eating. Somehow he is not surprised.

He's dressed far more plainly than Minoru might have seen him. His shirt and pants are simple, there is a complete lack of tabard and he only wears a black sash about his waist. His arms and legs are wrapped in blue cloth, but his slatted hat is the same as always. He almost looks more the part of a farmer than god of thunder today.

He nods when he sees Minoru, and the activation of his Sage mode. Now that they're off the ship, he has less to be concerned about around him and allows his own energy to spark through his hat and along his arms. In the dark it's an impressive arcing of electricity, the glow of his eyes growing significantly brighter.

"Do you have a particular focus you would like to direct our work tonight?" Raiden could provide a number of options for Minoru, but since he had come seeking help, if there was something specific the Snake Sage had in mind, Raiden would oblige.

For a mortal to manage a glimpse of what is known in Raiden's reality as the Heavens, is no small feat. That he did it by accident is even more impressive. Minoru practically has the makings of a god, which piques Raiden's interest.

He is disturbed to hear Minoru's tale of upsetting the natural balance, and the toll it required to repair it. It was a hard lesson to learn, and it saddens Raiden to hear that Minoru has been through all this. However, in comparison to many who had seen it as an avenue for incredible, god-like power, Minoru's take on the situation and what he's learned from it is to be admired.

"Under what circumstances did you manage the technique while you were on the ship?" That would be particularly helpful to know, and Raiden could consider how best to work with Minoru to make the practice repeatable, and also safer for his soul and those he seeks.
