The interesting thing about the woman who disappears almost as soon as she sees Vice Admiral Tyrrell, is that she never reappears. Not that he sees, at least, and the sudden way she'd hurried away had drawn his attention.

Coates notices, too, and he wanders in her direction, but he, too, looks around, confused.

No matter how hard Admiral Tyrrell looks, he cannot see the dark-haired woman who'd disappeared. And he does look: once he's done talking to the first few people in his mingling, he quietly makes his way around the lounge, looking for her.
