"Perhaps you should," he says, lifting his eyebrows a little and putting just a hint of emphasis on the last word, a hint that if she's a welcoming committee, he kind of likes her style.

"Making the best of things is usually a good choice," he says, his smile turning sly, cheeky.

(He does. She's cute. And brave. And those are two qualities he's rather fond of.)

"We," he says, picking up on her use of the word. "Is that you and me, or is it other people, too?"

His immediate thought had been to blame the Rift, but ... well. She doesn't sound Welsh. And if this is more widespread than that, then there's way more going on here than he thought.
