She's more than just a doctor, especially when it comes to her relationship with the captain, but right now she's not in any frame of mind to even offer that. Besides, what she said is technically true. The chain of command is extremely important and she can't go around it.

For the most part, she sounds calm, but agitation slowly rises inside her. If it becomes much worse, it may combine with everything else she's feeling and that will be a volatile concoction indeed.
