Ship's Gym | OTA

The biggest problem Wan had found with living on the City-Ship was that there was no earth beneath his feet and no moon in the sky overhead. Sure he'd learned he could 'create' them in the holodeck-things, but it wasn't the same. They weren't real and he could feel that they weren't real. Or not feel, as the actual case was. The water and rocks it 'created' felt real against his skin and if he had never gained the ability to manipulate the elements, then he would have believed them to be so.

But he could control the elements. He could feel them, their energy mingled with his own. His chi in harmony with all four of them. And now that harmony was out of balance because there just wasn't any real earth around him. There wasn't any under his feet (but thankfully he'd started to get used to the way the City-Ship 'hummed' and could sleep now). And without the spiritual energy of the moon, controlling what water there was became a chore.

Only air and fire were open to him and fire... well, for some reason it felt like the sun was constantly close enough to touch and he'd had to exercise a lot of self control whenever he called forth the fire inside him. That, too, was starting to be a bit more manageable, but the power overload was sometimes enough that he had to spend hours meditating just to get it back under control.

That left air as the only element he could get any semblance of normal practice with and the ship just didn't have enough space for that in the holodecks. But the ship's gym? That had an entire space open just to run. That track area became the center of his practice zone.

Anyone entering the gym at the late hour Wan chose to practice would find it filled with completely unnatural breezes and the occasional windfunnel. All of which seemed to be moving in time with the martial arts forms Wan was moving through. Ba Gua, for those familiar with it.
