Nope, nope, nope
Exactly fifteen minutes ago Marion had finally finished the beginnings of a project she had dove into. First she had to teach herself some basic programming which may have led to her pretty much hiding in her room. Not that she would call it hiding but that was pretty much exactly what it was.
She has left the holodeck with a PADD in hand. Marion is looking forward to taking a load off and maybe even relaxing. The opening chapter is done with and has really set the stage for the holo novel she is going to be working on.
She may have had a bit of fun with it. Marion may have even dressed in character just a bit for fun. Marion is a bit distracted by how pleased she is that she doesn't notice the one person she had decided to distance herself from.
Things would go so much better for her if she could just put the whole thing out of her own mind but Marion has terrible luck in that area.
"Deck seven." She doesn't look up from the PADD in her hand. She is still going over the last bit of coding and hasn't even considered the fact that eventually her luck is going to run out.
((ooc: This is plot locked to Dylan Hunt and Marion Scotts. Back dated to during the V-Day shenanigans.))

He does make her feel a bit flustered. At least she isn't weak in the knees over him, that would just be silly.
"A bit." She is glad he is looking at her boots. It gives Marion a bit of safety. "I was trying to do a holo program It's... not going smoothly."

(He wants to look at her, but ... he's not good at this.)
But he looks back at her at what she says, and he's giving her a small, lopsided smile before he even realizes it.
"You are? Branching out in your writing, then? You know, we have holonovels in my time. My first officer loves the things."

Unless he asks if Marion has been avoiding him. Loaded question with a complicated answer.
"Of course the biggest problem is the programming. I'm.... not so great at it given how far ahead of me it is but I'm getting there. It's just hard to translate what I'm thinking to something I can see working."

The offer is out of his mouth before Dylan has a chance to stop and think if it's a good idea to make it. But on reflection, he doesn't regret it. Marion is a friend, first, and this awkwardness between them comes second.
He shifts his weight on his feet for a moment, then gives her a stronger smile.
"Programming has never exactly been my strong point, but I know enough to get by. Patch things up if there isn't an engineer around, that sort of thing."
Maybe the offer's a really bad idea, but, really, he'd like to help.

It's as if she has forgotten all about the strangeness between them. For the record she hasn't it's just this is so much more important to her.
"I was just starting to learn on my own. I'm.... okay at it. Reminds me of balancing equations in micro-organic chemistry. Just.... different placement of numbers."
Yes. She knows science still. Marion can't forget anything she has taken the time to learn.

But he shrugs, and at Marion's smile, he flashes her a grin. He'd missed this, her friendship, since they'd been on the holodeck together.
"I haven't done any programming on the holodecks here, but if you've worked some of t out, I probably know enough to help you with the rest. It's helpful for a captain, to know how to work things out in his ship's systems."
He hasn't always been captain of a Glorious Heritage Class heavy cruiser equipped with an AI, after all.

"It's not as bad as I thought it would be. The holodeck is... surprisingly good at being flexible. I'm just... struggling with the coding. It's not always working out the way I feel like it should." Marion chuckles shaking her head.
"It's not like I have the experience to know if I'm right. I've never done this before." Marion glances down at the PADD. "I have the first chapter worked out. It's not so bad I'm just tempted to keep plugging away until I feel comfortable with it."
She glances up at him. "Do you want to see it?"
