[Brig:] April Fools' Arrests

It's not very often a passenger is taken to Deck 33, and for good reason. Deck 33 is where the brig is located. If you're unlucky enough to find yourself there, you'll notice that there are security officers standing guard outside the brig, as well as one stationed inside. The cells are separated by forcefield to prevent further incident between prisoners, and while it looks and sounds like there is no barrier between the cells and the room at large, there is no crossing over until the forcefields are lowered.
There have been incidents on the ship before, isolated ones and minor infractions, but this is a whole new ballgame. Q's latest game has wreaked havoc among the passengers, turning even the most polite among them into disturbers of the peace, in ways both small and — regrettably and dangerously — large. Security has been scrabbling to keep up (the ones who weren't affected by the events themselves, that is), but it's safe to say the brig has never been this full before.
Should a passenger make an inquiry after someone at one of the computer terminals, or access the directory on their PADDs, if the person they're looking for is here their location will be noted as 'BRIGGED' in bold font. Visitors are allowed entrance after they check in with the guards on duty, but no one is allowed to be alone with the prisoners. Once the prisoners are back to normal, they will be released.
Assuming they cause no further mischief, of course.
[ooc: Bit of a delayed OTA brig log for those who were requesting one. More info here.]

"Yeah," he intones, looking up through his lashes. The way he looks is as rueful as it is sympathetic. "That would make it easier. But not everybody is going to take you on like a backstreet's bully. For some guys, shoving your head in a trash can just isn't enough."
Not that he thinks he knows Khan's story after less than an hour spent between each cell, but he's pretty good at reading people. "So what happens now?"
It's a leading question. What are you gonna do, Jim? Start an interstellar war? Keep your head in the trashcan?

"What happens now? Well, right now I'm stuck here, courtesy of Q." That doesn't mean he's idle though. He's reading up on the history of things that he can get his hands on. He's trying to learn about what happened here and see if there's any way to avoid what seems inevitable where he comes from.
"Where I come from, though, I thought I'd stopped one. Negotiated the best truce I could between two hostile factions only for one to end up taking out a completely different target."
He watched a supposed captain take out an entire fleet of Romulan warships. It still makes him feel sick to think about it.
"They think they're on the same side as me. Keep trying to convince me. I'm not exactly impressed." He shrugs a little. "But they're gone, disappeared, and we've still got our mission. So I guess, when I get back, I keep my ear to the ground. Wait to see where me and my crew are needed, and make sure we're up for it."

Once he's finished, Steve's eyebrows tick in amazement. Either this guy's been carrying that around for a long time and he just really needed to get it off his chest, or saying the words out loud help to make them feel more real. Steve purses his lips, and considers how to answer.
(All he wanted to know is what happens now with Jim and Khan, but he thinks he caught the gist of it.)
"And until then?" Steve asks, genuinely curious. He arches an eyebrow. "What have you got to prove here, in this universe?"
Funny how it's easier to see the danger and the ego when the words are coming from someone else. It's so much harder for him to look at himself, and see the same kind of reckless temper he's beginning to see in Kirk.

"I guess it depends a little on him too." He won't stand by and let him hurt people if he gets it in his head to. He just won't.
"I'll do whatever I have to. None of us mean anything to him."
