It's a party for your taste buds. Or maybe torture. OTA (foreward date for tonight really)

It's entirely possible the person who had caused this little challenge wasn't going to show up - that didn't matter. Really after the fun of having a third puberty - grant it only the second he remembered - he needed a distraction. So he'd been cooking more and when challenge to make something "really hot" he'd worked at it until he had something not only incredibly spicy - probably far more than most people could eat - but also flavorful. There was actual flavor, not just heat to the pasta he'd created.

And then he'd send word that this dish was ready and he'd put it together in Ten Forward. Over the last few days, he'd mentioned it here and there and towards the evening, he popped his cooktop into a girdle-type base and set up on a table to start cooking.

Winner gets bragging rights. It's only a moderately sized plate of pasta, how bad can it be right?

It's probably just food prep safety that has Magneto and Annie wearing gloves. Couldn't be the spice levels at all. And the cooler to the side that contains ice cream? Also not a warning.

"Well I do like Mexican food." Thea mused. At the same time the girl who wandered by was reminding her so much of Felicity in terms of flat out spunk it was crazy (but a good crazy). "Its tempting so I'm close to biting and don't think we've met? I'm Thea." she added.

"Well, they have ice-cream if it's too much..."

Tempt, tempt, tempt, goes Gaila.

"And I'm Gaila. Pleased to meetcha. You're new, right?"

"Likewise and you're right, I just got dumped into all of this." Thea offered to Gaila. "Figured something fun would push me back into the land of the living to borrow the expression."

"It can! At least in my experience, and it's way, way, waaaaay less stressful than a crisis, because then what do you do when it's over? Really easy to slip back."

She speaks fast. It's a thing.

(Even if she does pause at the end for another forkful. Yum.)

"How you finding it?"

"The fun stuff is always better than a crisis in the end." Thea observed with a rare as of late smile. "Besides being thrown for a total loop to borrow the expression? I'm thinking work in progress, still trying to understand a lot and find a niche so to speak." she confessed.

"I know what that's like," Gaila admits, twirling some more pasta around her fork. "I got here about a year ago now, and I've just in the past couple months really got back on my feet. But. It."

Depression, she knows. Survivor's guilt. She was taken seconds from death to another version of her reality in the future, and lost everything.

It's taken her a while.

"But, hey, I mean, we're pretty good at letting everyone find niches here, I think. They let me back."

She pauses, a rare thing.

"I'm from this universe. But the past, and a universe over. And hey," she glances down herself and the uniform, "still allowed to work. Just takes some time. Which, ugggh, trust me, I know sucks."

"So you know this world better than most. Anything I should know?" Thea was honestly curious. But she also had a what the heck moment as she hopped up long enough to grab a plate of pasta, it was time to live again and spicy food was a perfect stating point. When she returned she added more,"21st century for me and well I'm boring." leaving out the soap opera her life had become as of late. "But was happily shocked to find my archery gear had somehow made the trip."

"No one's that boring," Gaila points out. "But, well! Hey, if you like archery, then there's the holodecks you could set up for practice, that's pretty well worth knowing, has anyone explained the holodecks to you?"

"Holodeck?" Thea was officially curious and it showed. "But I did hear mention of people training so I'm hoping there's either people into archery or people more into friendly shooting contests." she explained.

"Oh, sure! People are interested in all kinds of things here, archery would be right up there. And if there's not, you could start something? It'd be something new, which'd get people coming around."

It's a long, long assignment, after all.

"Uh, okay, so holodeck is..." Gaila can't use her hands to gesture, due to plate and fork and nice delicious pasta, so she just tilts her head this way and that instead. "Virtual reality, basically. Do you have that concept?"
