It's a party for your taste buds. Or maybe torture. OTA (foreward date for tonight really)
It's entirely possible the person who had caused this little challenge wasn't going to show up - that didn't matter. Really after the fun of having a third puberty - grant it only the second he remembered - he needed a distraction. So he'd been cooking more and when challenge to make something "really hot" he'd worked at it until he had something not only incredibly spicy - probably far more than most people could eat - but also flavorful. There was actual flavor, not just heat to the pasta he'd created.
And then he'd send word that this dish was ready and he'd put it together in Ten Forward. Over the last few days, he'd mentioned it here and there and towards the evening, he popped his cooktop into a girdle-type base and set up on a table to start cooking.
Winner gets bragging rights. It's only a moderately sized plate of pasta, how bad can it be right?
It's probably just food prep safety that has Magneto and Annie wearing gloves. Couldn't be the spice levels at all. And the cooler to the side that contains ice cream? Also not a warning.

"So... he's using the really, really spicy ones. And I'm told that there's no difference between replicated food and not... so we shouldn't make any leeways for that... do you think?" He's only half talking to himself and half talking to Danny, if only because Danny is right there.

"Yeah, the ghost chilies." Danny starts. "There's three of them in it, and a black pepper alfredo sauce."

Not that Danny would notice, but Kale doesn't seem to notice Danny's lack of noticing... (say that three times fast). He's more preoccupied with his little book, tapping it with the pencil.

"Sounds like a bad thing to bet on," says Danny with a chuckle. "Me, I like my tastebuds when they aren't on fire. He tilts his head at the tapping of the pencil on the notebook.
"What are you writing?"

"Yeah, but Rory's a seventh son, so betting on him is usually a sure way to win easy money." From the annoyed sound of Kale's voice he lost the chili bet.
Nat had told him otherwise, but it'd actually been a fairly even split between everyone on if he could manage the chili raw. The smarter people went with Nat because Nat was the professional chef.
"I'm trying to come up with a good betting pool for this. The problem is coming up with the odds. There's a bunch of people with abilities that could let them cheat and there's no way for me tell one way or the other. I mean, I've got the how many people will come screaming for ice cream pool, obviously."
no subject
"Don't tell me you lost the bet then. Did you?"
He listens as Kale explains what it is he's trying to do. "Well, if they have abilities to help them cheat, that seems a little unfair. Is there any way to do separate pools for separate people?" He gives a grin when he mentions the ice cream, though.
"Yeah? What are the odds on that one?" Or the chances they might try to take one without asking and get smacked for their trouble?

Drove Rory nuts because all his other siblings - twelve of them - plus Kale, Trever and Nat were all able to participate in sports and he couldn't.
"We could do that, but would you be able to tell who has the powers and who does? I mean that's the entire point of cheating, after all." He scratch his nose with the pen. "The odds as they stand right now are a flat out 50/50..."
