I stole a Time Lord and I ran away (Ten Forward - OTA)
Jack had finally convinced the Doctor that they needed as much rest as she did. So they had left her alone in the room she was supposed to be sleeping in. The Doctor had given her the ring of his first wife. For a man who has tried to forget so much of Gallifrey, he really was a sentimental idiot. It was a black ring with silver Gallifreyan script written on it. The ring held a special power, he had said. It was something to keep her safe. But she had not been able to remove it. That was all right, she supposed. She trusted him, so if this was for her good, she would wear it. It was slightly too big to wear on her right ring finger, so she wore it on the middle finger of that hand instead.
She had accomplished so much - over a thousand years of running the calculations - and she was once again in flesh form. This time she was much more stable than she had been when the House had forced her into Idris' body. And she intended to remain this way as long as possible. It was with that thought she fell asleep.
She wakes with a gasp. When she looks around, she realises she is no longer in the bedroom Jack had provided for her. In fact, she can tell this place was in motion. It only takes her one look out the window to realise... she has no idea where she is. That is terrifying for her. She is used to being able to control the whole of Time and Space. And she can't tell much of anything. It's almost like this isn't her universe, but how is that even possible? Maybe this is just a nightmare. Jack and the Doctor had both mentioned they were fairly common. All she needs to do is wake herself up. She closes her eyes and then opens them again. "It is not working!"
Her voice has a melodic quality to it. Almost as if she were singing, if she were speaking another language. Now, she was starting to panic properly. She cries out, "Doctor? Jack?"
She looks around again. The place where she is looks like a place for socialising, only there are very few people around. She closes her eyes again, trying to calm herself. She can tell it is the period for a majority of humans to be sleeping. Well that explains the lack of others. She needed to find the Doctor and Jack. If she was here, perhaps they were as well. If she could not understand, perhaps it was something specific to flesh that they could explain to her.
To anyone who is around she will ask: "Excuse me, have you seen the Doctor or Jack?"
[ooc: I'm happy to backtag to this until I can post to the sickbay entry. I have something entirely different planned for that.]

How surprising that it hadn't occurred to him!

She sounds slightly surprised. She frowns.
"Is... something wrong with me? I mean, the other mes?"
no subject
Honestly, he didn't really know. All he had to go on was the impressions he'd gotten from her other selves.
no subject
Well, she doesn't want to think what that would do to the Doctor or anyone else.
no subject
Kitt knows very well that it would absolutely devastate the Doctor, but the full extent of it? He can't even comprehend.

She goes quiet, thinking about how to explain it.
"We encountered this programmable matter, called The Flesh. Humans used it to create clone workers known as Doppelgängers for exceptionally dangerous situations. I took what I knew of that and..."
She gestures to her form. It's much, much more complex than that, but this is enough to start.
no subject
"You encountered this... 'Flesh', a thousand years ago? And you somehow downloaded yourself into a flesh-form? How did you choose your appearance? How did you acquire the Flesh that you used to create your form? And these clones - were they sentient? Self-aware? Does what you're saying mean that they had no rights? Who decided which form was more real? This information is very disturbing to me, Cridhe."
no subject
"One question at a time: The Flesh was being abused at the time. The Doctor worked to free it and to make sure everyone involved understood that had its own sentience. I downloaded the the information about the chemistry of the Flesh into my databanks. I wanted to try to recreate it as it was intended, rather than allowing it to become sentient."
no subject
Like now, as his voice took on a note of chagrin.
"My apologies, Cridhe. I didn't mean to overwhelm you." He nodded knowingly. "That does sound like the Doctor, doesn't it? This 'Flesh' sounds absolutely extraordinary. Do you know who originally created it?" He tilted his head, curiously, thinking on what she'd said. "Do you still have that information? How were you able to keep it from becoming sentient?"
no subject
She said 'humans' as if it should be obvious that no other creature in the universe would create such a thing.
"Well, of course I have the knowledge, my form would turn to nothing if I didn't. Keeping it from becoming sentient was simple in the end. The humans kept vats of the matter. They would destroy one and allow a new one to be created. This..." She gestures to her form. "...Is more than just Flesh. It has been infused with my own... Blood for lack of a better word."

The more Kitt sees of the people on this ship, the less inclined he is to think that humans are as special as he once thought. Not when there was a vast array of sentient, intelligent beings on display.
Kitt tilted his head, processing the information, studying her plainly as she explained.
"But it is still you, yes? With your knowledge and abilities? How were you able to collect some of this matter for yourself?"
no subject
"It is still me. I have some of my abilities. How many... we are still researching. The Doctor - from my time - thought that I could still travel and manipulate space and time, which is why he used this ring to limit my abilities."
She holds up her right hand, where the lump from the ring can be plainly seen under the glove.
"Beyond that, well... it's all a great experiment, isn't it?"
no subject
"Whyever would he wish to limit those abilities? Isn't that what you are?" And why was she wearing a glove, again?
"I suppose the same could be said about life in general, couldn't it? One grand experiment."
no subject
She shrugs.
"He sometimes is overprotective when he doesn't understand something. But, I don't think he ever thought I'd end up here. I'm as stuck as my earlier selves."
no subject
Kitt understands his feelings of protectiveness towards her, but surely she knew her capabilities and limits better than the Doctor?
"That I do understand, of course. But I believe you are the best judge of your abilities, Cridhe."
no subject
He's just not great at dealing with species more advanced than himself.
"Thank you, Kitt. I do believe we can be the best judge of our abilities. However we are sometimes blind to the abilities of others."
Meaning if others were to discover she was a TARDIS, it could be quite dangerous for everyone.
no subject
A small joke, though it was interesting to think of species more advanced than the Doctor, though he supposed this 'Q' might very well apply. That, of course, made him start to wonder if the Doctor had any theories on the Q - but that was a question for another time.
"Ah. That point is very true. I suppose I'm guilty of that as well, as regards my own driver. I do tend to be overprotective when I know full well he's capable of taking care of himself."
His next question? Dangerous for whom? Those on this ship?
no subject
She's trying for tactful. After all, pretty much everyone is beneath her. Even the Doctor. She grins at his analogy.
"Ah! Then you do understand! It is like that between myself and my pilot."
Husband and wife to the end. Even if neither admits it.
no subject
"I'm pleased to know that you consider me nearly sentient. And that I qualify for my own species. I feel both flattered and honored." He's communicated enough with the boxy TARDIS to know that she is aeons beyond anything he can imagine being capable of. She isn't just part of the universe; in many ways, she is the whole of it.
"It makes more sense now, yes. I'm not quite sure the understanding is completely in place yet." But he smiles anyway, because it's something he can sense just from speaking to her, that curious and complex relationship she has with her Doctors.
But there is a question he needs to ask of her.
"Do you remember me, when we were in the cargo bay together, box and car?"
no subject
"Time travel can be a curious thing. Even for me. When an event like this happens and then things are set right again, typically only those at the centre of the storm remember."
It had been that way at the end of the Year That Wasn't, when she and the Doctor rebooted the universe, and when the Doctor had changed how he ended the Time War. They were at the heart of those events, so they remember both time lines.
Bleah, I've had strep. Sorry!
Fortunately for Kitt, he had only one time line to keep track of.
No worries! :)
"Cridhe. And the pleasure is mine."
She takes a look around them again.
"If you had to tell someone one thing about this place, just one. What would you tell them?"
It's a bit early to do the 'one-word test' that Vastra sometimes uses, but this is a good start.
:D
"Somehow, I don't think so." He smiled charmingly at her before releasing her hand.
"The Doctor is here." That was an easy enough answer, one he didn't even have to think twice about.
The one-word test. For someone who liked to talk as much as Kitt did, that might be a difficult thing.
