First Entrance
He'd been to visit Peggy when he got the call from Director Fury to check in. He was making it a routine, every Tuesday afternoon when he wasn't on a mission. Then it became every Tuesday afternoon and every Saturday morning. It's funny how long it took him to work up the nerve to see her, and now it's all he can do to stay away. She's still his best gal.
He parks his bike in his usual spot in the underground garage next to the Triskelion, shoulders the bag with his gear in it, and starts walking to the elevators. He's wondering what kind of mission Fury's sending him on this time when the sun catches his eyes ... wait, where's that coming from?
He blinks hard, and when he opens his eyes ... this is not the elevator. This isn't the garage, heck, this isn't even D.C. He's in a room, some kind of restaurant or bar. People are milling about, some in uniform and others in civvies, and outside the windows ... jeepers, that's a lot of stars.
His hand tightens on the strap of his bag and he plants his feet shoulder's width apart, jaw set. He isn't sure what kind of trick this is, but if he doesn't get answers soon he's going to start demanding them.
[ooc: Hello! Steve is pre-Winter Soldier, but only just, and he has entered the room in civvies. Slacks, button-up, leather jacket, boots, his usual affair. His cowl is in the bag, along with his shield and a few other things, but by all accounts he looks like an average guy. Well, an average tall, strong guy. Any takers welcome!]

Because that was news to him. The closest he had ever seen to that was Zordon's time warp but that was also something alien and no one knew about it.

The super soldier serum did the rest, but he refrains from bringing that up.

"Have you ever heard of Captain America?" he asks.
no subject
"...should I?"
no subject
"Captain America was a war hero. Fought in World War II against Hitler's forces and the enemy faction Hydra. The leader of that faction, Johann Schmidt, sent flying bombs to take out all the major cities in America. There was only one way to stop the bombs from hitting New York: take the plane down." He adjusts his bag. He'd do it all over again in a heartbeat, even knowing the consequences. "Captain America was the first successful subject of Project Rebirth, a scientific experiment to create super soldiers."
Sure, he sounds like he's reciting the information out of a textbook. It's almost word for word what they have written on his bio in the Smithsonian, and that, he figures, makes it common knowledge. Once he's finished, he softens a little. "The serum they injected me with kept me alive."

Taking a bit of a risk, he paused for a moment to think it over before asking, "Do you know who the Power Rangers are?"
no subject
"I guess you could say it was," he nods. "Really good science. But ... that's strange, all I hear about these days is what the history books say about me."
His brow furrows in thought. "Power Rangers, no. I can't say that I do. What organization are they affiliated with?"
no subject
Organization? He raised a brow. "Um, I don't... know? We don't really get to talk to them. They sort of just... teleport in, fight whatever monster is wreaking havoc, and then teleport out. Not sure if there is even an organization involved."
no subject
"Huh." It's about the only thing he can say for a few moments. So there's an Earth out there somewhere where Captain America really doesn't exist. Steve shifts his feet. "I've heard of portals that can connect worlds, but -- the idea of different Earths... is strange."
Still, it looks like that may be the case. "They're superheroes, then. Do they come from Earth? Uh, your Earth?"

He has no issues with secret identities. His current partner has over a dozen of them, which is probably a lowball number, but she's never been terribly honest with him about everything she does.
"OK then, Adam from California," he says. "Where does that leave us?"
Aside from on a spaceship, somewhere that isn't Earth for either of them, with no idea where to proceed or what to do.
no subject
"Well, Steve from New York, that just leaves us on a space ship with no way home in the foreseeable future," He deadpanned lightly. "And no plan on what to do about it. This isn't really my forte, after all. I'm just a kid from Angel Grove."
no subject
"Yeah, I know that tune," he says, shouldering his bag to keep both hands free. He offers one to Adam to shake, figuring he should make up for the way he grabbed his arm earlier. "Still, I'd like to find out what I can from whoever's in charge. You're welcome to come with me."
He won't take it personally if Adam needs to get back to his friends, though. Steve's trained to deal with high-stress situations, and has a whole checklist for what to do when caught behind enemy lines. Probably, he can keep the kid from Angel Grove better protected if he goes alone.

He just wishes Natasha were here, or Barton, or even the Big Guy. Heck, he'd take Stark. No, he wouldn't. But it's exactly the kind of thing he'd suggest if any of them were here; split up, divide and conquer. "Thanks for talking to me, Adam. Let me know if you find out anything interesting."
It's always better making contacts than enemies.

He's Captain America.
Squaring his jaw, he slips into the crowd, hunting for the people in charge.
