The Witch Goes Exploring! (OTA for all options)

When Luna got word of the upcoming Pacifica stop she was actually excited. Even now she was always up for exploring and whatever misadventures came up along the way. At the same time however she was still a teenager and well attractive men without shirts was icing on the cake.

(Option 1: Moon Frog Hunt)

Luna had her notebook in one hand as she stalked out one of many ponds, she remembered something her father had mentioned about the frogs and knew being around so much water would only up the chances of a sighting (and there was so many other creatures that live around water as well). Her wand however had been charmed into its usual chopstick mostly as a precaution but there was also a flower tucked into the teen's ponytail and radishes in her ears.

"So curious!" she was smiling now as a little frog hopped past her perch.

(Option 2: Beach Front)

At heart however Luna was still a teenage girl so she also had planned on some beach time to not just swim and enjoy the sun but to people watch (attractive men without shirts was just icing on the cake she decided) and learning a few new water sports. She had even gotten her hands on a tasteful two piece swimsuit (with magical help to cover her scars from the manor). But for the first time in weeks her heart was lighter, she could not explain it but Luna decided to just enjoy the break from her private pain.

"But now see if anyone would teach me to surf."

(Option 3: Submersible Research Institute)

The Ravenclaw in her however wanted to learn while having fun. So Luna signed up for a tour of the Submersible Research Institute. Sure she may not understand all of it but she could not pass up the chance to learn while having another adventure.

Galen was quiet on the tour, absorbing everything he was told, and making sure to leave some probes, in case they told him something useful. It was only at the end of the tour that he spoke up to ask if they could take a trip in one of the submersible vehicles. The tour guide hesitated and Galen looked to those around him, to see if any of them would speak up.

Galen was disappointed that he was the only one. But perhaps he'd return and ask again later. Or take a walk himself, with a shield to keep the water out and the air in.

Outside there was a girl who had something interesting about her, that he couldn't put his finger on. He nodded to her and flicked a microscopic probe in her direction, to land on one of her earrings.

Kira had never seen the ocean. When she first stepped onto the beach - her all ready large eyes widened as she took in the stretch of white sand and the incredibly expansive stretch of water. It stretched out as far as the eye could see. The surf was a constant rhythmic rumble and the color was so blue. She didn't know there could be so much water in one place.

She had all ready removed her cloak a while ago, and had slung it over an arm. A satchel was hanging over her other shoulder. She wore divided skirts of an embroidered woven material and a tunic woven with a leaf design. Her long white hair nearly glowed in the sunlight as she took everything in. At barely 2 and a half to three feet tall she was the size of a child and her face held a similar delight.

Finally, the gelfling took off down the beach, heading towards the water. She only halted long enough to deposit her things before skipping along the waters edge and not caring that her clothes was getting wet. Her wings caught the breeze and droplets of water sparkled on them as she splashed around.

Kira recognized the other girl from various classes at school but couldn't remember her name. She grinned and waved a hand, trotting over and taking great delight in kicking up the water.

"Hello!" She pointed out at the water. "I've never seen the ocean before. It's so big!" Just like space was big. Though, she was starting to understand that the latter was a lot bigger.

Kira beamed. "I'm Kira! Nice to meet you. I recognized you from school." School was pretty interesting, though she had yet to learn to read and write. She was a quick learner however and did best at practical learning. Seeing and doing.

"Moon frogs? What are those?" She asked curiously.

"That sounds really interesting." Kira said, tilting her head. "Where I'm from there's all sorts of creatures that live in the swamps where I'm from. I love to get to know them as friends!" She considered for a few moments.

"You'd think with a name like moon frogs they would be more out at night, right?" She wondered curiously.

Kira came closer when Luna pulled out a notebook. She wasn't able to read any of the notes, but if there were pictures she'd definitely like those!

"There's many creatures. A lot of them are adapted to blend in with their environment. Sometimes they look like the land itself!" Kira said, looking up at the other girl. "There are also many that live in the water, but can also breathe air. Even the plants are sentient too! Well some of them. Some are made to attract insects so they can eat them."

She glanced at the notebook again. "Have you seen moon frogs before? They must be really good at hiding. There are creatures I know in the swamps that are only seen when they want to be."

The beach was a wonderful distraction from the holodeck. Despite the best efforts, there was nothing quite like reality, and she did not mind getting her white Caster robe wet in the water.

Grainne wasn't too far away, lightening up in the face of sun and sand and water to start playing around with a couple waves with water magic. Making them slightly smaller, or bigger, or go sideways across the sand. Harmless stuff, mostly, just an exercise of control. She hadn't gotten a lot of chances to practice since coming to the Enterprise.

She over heard the comment easily enough. "To surf? It is easy." Of course, Grainne meant body surfing, taking a bit of wood and catching a wave just for fun.

"Why not give it a try? Tis fairly easy." Grainne started moving some of the wet sand around her feet with water, forming it into rolling shapes that mimicked the waves. "It takes a bit of timing to catch the surf just right, but it is an easy rhythm."

That held Grainne up a bit as she tried to figure out what Luna meant. She glanced down at herself with a confused expression. "Us? I'm not sure what you mean."

"Oh." It had been a long time since she'd seen anyone use a wand, Grainne hadn't been paying much attention with the surf and the sun around her. "There's at least one other I know of. I imagine there's quite a few with so many universes involved. There are many different types in mine."

"Grainne," she offered, then looked at the charm, suitably impressed. "I would be standing here all day if I described all the kinds from all the cultures around. My native magic is very different to the modern standards. I've not quite determined all of the differences yet, myself. Do you always use a wand for magic?"

She didn't want to ask. She knew that she didn't want to ask. She knew she would regret asking. She heard her voice speaking anyway, "What exactly, is so curious?" the tone was dry, far drier than the humid air. She was not pleased to still be a child, not pleased to be talking to a child who was taller than her, not pleased to be on forced shore leave. No one had said the words "Get out" she had heard them anyway.

Sad thing? She's talked plants with Keiko, she's listened to the captain go on about ancient pottery shards like they were made of gold pressed latinum. So this didn't seem out of place at all to her. "You will need to get medical to clear the frogs before you bring them aboard if that is your intent," she said dryly. They might tell her she was on leave, but she was still a Star Fleet officer.
ro_laren: (Yes we just sit here)

[personal profile] ro_laren 2016-02-20 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
She nodded once. That was... unusually sensible for the type of people Ro usually met. What that said about them or about Luna, or even about Ro, it was hard to tell. "If you handle them, you may also want to be checked for infections you might pick up here," she added, feeling she needed to add something. But this seemed to be more or less well in hand.

"Then it seems as though I am not needed here," she said, and honestly, she almost regretted it. She liked feeling useful, and so far this girl hadn't managed to tick her off. A rare accomplishment, really. Of course, she had neither treated Ro like a child, not like a maniac, and that too was rare.

While the general good mood was making her trip far less bothersome than she would have thought, T'Pol still saw no reason to waste her time when she could be studying more about these people. She'd decided to tour their aquatic center and ended up in the small and milling group that was following a guide through the submersible center.

She was listening when she spotted a fair haired girl who seemed to be on her own path entirely. "I do not think guests are permitted to enter the aquatic display areas."

"Hogwarts?" The word was completely foreign to T'pol and she found herself not off put by the odd behavior. She had witness humans acting far stranger in the past. "That could be very interesting."

"I see. Many species are indigenous to only one world. Presumably the specialties of the atmosphere and ground composition make it favorable to the evolution of some genes over others. My people for example could live on a planet such as Earth, but they would not be well suited for others." A bit of a share for her there, she was not entirely sure of why she did it, but it hadn't seemed like anything to hide. Normally Vulcans were very quiet about those sorts of things.

"What are Moon frogs?"
