It's been a weird couple of weeks for Cash. He'd been sure that he was going to die back in Denouement -- unpleasantly, alone -- but instead he'd found himself on a spaceship with the man he thought he'd never see again. While Cash is starting to relax, it's taking his unconscious mind a lot longer to get used to things. He sleeps uneasily, startles at small noises, and finds himself occasionally tensing whenever someone gets too close.
Adjusting to a much more normal (or at least less homicidal) environment will take some time. Being in Ten Forward helps. It reminds him of being in the tavern -- not a safe place, because no place had been safe, but a familiar place. A place where people had been trying to find a semblance of 'normal'.
Though he feels a fair amount of anxiety leaving Luke, he knows, logically, that time out of their room will help him feel better. So he collects a glass of whiskey from the bartender and then wanders toward the rest of the room. Cash can't help noticing Kevin, absorbed in his PADD, without anything to eat or drink.
Somebody else might have assumed he was busy and left him alone. Cash, on the other hand, smiles and nods at him.
"You can work in here?"
It seems distracting, to him. Or he'd be tempted to keep getting drinks. But maybe that's just his raging alcoholism talking.
