Actually not in his room - OTA

Ten Forward:

Kevin steps into Ten Forward, looking to see if his favorite table in the corner is free. It is, thankfully. He settles with his back to the corner and puts the PADD device in front of him, ready to settle in and do a few hours of homework and working on the current art project that's consumed his attention. Alright, mostly to work on the art he's been working on. It's just in light, even if that's hardlight projection, but, it would be nice to be able to work in metal and fire again. He wonders who he talks to about that.

So, he's going to be sitting here a while. Someone bring the boy some food and drink or something, otherwise, he'll forget to eat.

Holodeck:

One thing Kevin has discovered with the holodecks is that he can workout here and no one gets hurt. Well, except for him, and that's okay. So, he works on his hand to hand in here. While he'd like to work on his control, there's something funky about his powers. So, shirtless, he works out with the self-defense programs, and doesn't worry about all that deadly skin to be displayed.

Well, unless he's bothered. Then he'll worry about it.

Giving away her food was not something Kaylin Neya often did, even here where it was both plentiful and free. She generally ate like it was going to be her last meal for a while and had to hold her, and only the fact that she never sat still kept her from being obese. She patrolled, and she trained. But perhaps for the first time in her life, she wasn't adding new notches to her belt, and didn't look underfed and scrawny. She had no illusions she'd ever be curvy or tall or any other **** thing that might have happened if she had had access to food like this as a child, but it was nice not not be able to count her ribs so easily any more. Made her not have to be as aware of how many still hadn't set perfectly.

But when she saw him, and looked down at her tray, she changed directions and set her over loaded monstrosity between them. She wiggled free a plate of meat filled buns and set it in front of him before sitting across, and not asking if that was alright.

"Generally," she said with a shrug that was all fief. She had no clue why he was asking, since she never saw him at the gym, but if he wasn't offering elaboration, she wasn't asking. She was, however eating. She tucked into a rather large sandwich. "You've been okay, here?" she asked around a mouthful of food.

"There are whole years where boredom would be a blessing," she said with a small wry smile. "Still, if you want, I'm sure between us we could find something you could do." She considered herself as a child, and as... well... less of a child. Thought of the few things that had brought her any happiness that weren't dead. "Do you like betting?"

Guessing she might have seen welding once or twice, sort of? Maybe?

"Weld? you mean that thing with fire and metal?" she had been around very little construction and tech on her world was fairly low.

"I think I saw some woman doing that in here a few days ago. Blond hair, green eyes. I've seen her in here a few times before. You might want to try and find her."

She shrugged. "Patrolling. Eating. Sleeping." The world wasn't ending, there was no crime to investigate, it was... oddly calm and quiet.

"The corridors." Usually wherever she winds up when she gets lost. "So far mostly what comes of it is finding new ones of us, and bringing them to Sickbay." Presuming she can find it.

"Some," she said with a nod. "Last one almost took off half my hand and got me good across the forehead. I'll say this, for this place, Beverly is one of the best Medics I've ever met."

She's not picky about that either, so long as there was enough. "I don't know Erik. At home it was Moran who treated me mostly. Generally she's scarier than the broken bones are."

Ten Forward }

It's been a weird couple of weeks for Cash. He'd been sure that he was going to die back in Denouement -- unpleasantly, alone -- but instead he'd found himself on a spaceship with the man he thought he'd never see again. While Cash is starting to relax, it's taking his unconscious mind a lot longer to get used to things. He sleeps uneasily, startles at small noises, and finds himself occasionally tensing whenever someone gets too close.

Adjusting to a much more normal (or at least less homicidal) environment will take some time. Being in Ten Forward helps. It reminds him of being in the tavern -- not a safe place, because no place had been safe, but a familiar place. A place where people had been trying to find a semblance of 'normal'.

Though he feels a fair amount of anxiety leaving Luke, he knows, logically, that time out of their room will help him feel better. So he collects a glass of whiskey from the bartender and then wanders toward the rest of the room. Cash can't help noticing Kevin, absorbed in his PADD, without anything to eat or drink.

Somebody else might have assumed he was busy and left him alone. Cash, on the other hand, smiles and nods at him.

"You can work in here?"

It seems distracting, to him. Or he'd be tempted to keep getting drinks. But maybe that's just his raging alcoholism talking.

"Ah." Cash nods, glancing out over the rest of Ten Forward. "I know what you mean. ...or I used to know."

After Denouement, quiet had been what he'd sought. But before, back in his world, Cash had been the type to fall asleep with the TV on, even if it was just infomercials or dumb talk shows. Silence had made him uneasy. In his childhood home, silence had been all but impossible, even in the dead of night, with as many siblings as he'd had. Silence meant something was amiss.

And then had come the town, and the first world he'd ended up on not of his own accord, and silence had meant that if something bad was going on, it wasn't as bad as it could be. Quiet moments had been snatched here and there, with people he cared about. Quiet meant they had a moment for reflection, instead of moments of desperate action.

And now, away in his room, quiet means safety. But he's slowly retraining his body to accept that the Enterprise and its crew means him no harm. Being out among people helps, and so, over the course of the past week or two, he's spent a fair amount of time in Ten Forward.

"Bet it's easier when you don't have rude jackasses interrupting you," he jokes.

"Guess there's just some things that are a constant in every universe," Cash quips, with a quiet chuckle, as he sits down. There are jackasses everywhere. But also people good for conversation, and Cash always likes to think of himself as more of the latter.

He eyes the generous platter of food for a brief moment before nodding over it. This amount of food would have seemed ludicrous to him a few months ago. Now it's finally starting to look reasonably normal again.

"Cash Gillingwater. Good t' meet you. You been on board long?"
