OTA - Father's day storm

Ailyshia's temper was bitingly cold. She had never used a holodeck before, had no clue what one was, but she had been passing one when she heard a familiar voice, one that chilled her to the bone. She stopped, and for once ignored the instincts that told her to just keep walking. She went to the sound of that voice and the man she saw.... he should be dead. Not Demon Dead, just dead. Whatever happened to everyone who bore the taint, he should have gone with them. 

She hadn't seen him since she had left home. And now she was faced with him, well away from home. The air around her froze. Theiorn stepped between her and the man, but it little mattered. His whole attention was on her, and she saw nothing but him. 

"Well," he said simply. "You've grown up."

The strength of Theiorn's shields were all that kept the room from exploding. As it is, he fell back against them, way from her. He tried to push to his feet, but maintaining his shields against her frozen rage was all he could manage. "SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO TURN THIS THING OFF!" he roared into the corridors, having a sense that whatever brought whoever this was, wasn't magic. 

Ailyshia was snarling, trying to blast her way through the shield that was keeping her from blasting her father to a very fine ash.




OTA - On the Planet

Ailyshia had been in a foul mood ever since she saw her father, and was not allowed to kill him. She was just barely able to tolerate any males at all because she was finally convinced that he had, more or less, been like a tangled web. Not actually there. Just a cruel trick preying on her mind. But after that, she needed time on the planet with the plants.

She would be avoiding any unknown males there, and her work area is shielded around her, so anyone who tries to approach will not be able to touch her. Her gold eyes are filled with angry tears and furry as she works with a single minded determination. 


Locked to Raiden (and Minoru if he wants, since that wasn't plotted, but would work!) and backdated to when the planet trip was announced.

The Queen was resting, excited about the upcoming trip, but he knew she was trying to convince herself not to offer aid. Which would destroy her emotionally, since this - even more than ruling the people - was what a Queen was born to do. But spending a week in the sun again so soon might well finish the kill. so after shielding their quarters, he went searching for one of the few males here he could trust. Raiden.  If he saw him or Minoru, he would stop them.

"Prince. May I speak with you a moment?"

"I think if I wind up in Sickbay again, the healer is going to kill us both, just to keep us from giving her any more troubles," he said dryly.

"Sickbay? What happened?"

He'd clearly missed a lot while he was out exploring Pacifica.

"I was more confidant in the power of the shade than I had rights to be," he said simply.

"You can't be in the sun?"

It took a moment for that to register. The sun in the arboretum wasn't real, he had to remind himself. That, and all that talk of demon dead... Oh... Was he? What did that even mean?

"You're...?"

"I'm what?" he asked. And the sun in the arboretum caused him some pain, even in the shade. But that he could handle that so long as he was in the shade had given him a false confidence in his ability to handle actual sun. "Dead?" he guessed. "Yes."

It was something Minoru had been curious about since their last encounter, when the subject came up of guiding the dead toward their next incarnation. He had encountered others in his travels who were suspended in a state that was neither truly alive or truly dead. None of them, however, were like Theiorn.

"Would you mind telling me about what it's like." He asked respectfully. "Being dead?"

He shrugged a bit. "If you wish. But can we discuss it in our quarters? I want to be near if she awakens. She will not be pleased to discovered I Green locked her in."

"Oh! Of course!" Minoru could imagine no one being pleased about being locked anywhere against their will.

He nodded, and turned to lead the way. "People here seem concerned about my being Demon Dead." He frowned a bit. He knew there were some bigotries about it, in places, but not so much in Kaleer, so most of his knowledge had been theoretical.

"I would be too if you were hurt and no one knew how to help."

People here were definitely different. So far, he'd met someone who was part machine, two people whose chakra was completely made of natural energy, someone who could block chakra with a magical bracer and a sentient plant whose chakra was on a whole different level. When it came to his methods of healing, which he originally assumed could be used on anyone, he couldn't do anything helpful at all.

The only real reference point he had was on Moon Island, when he encountered an edo tensei Madara. That man was neither alive, nor dead, but healing was never a problem in that state. He had infinite chakra. He could simply heal himself instantaneously.

He wondered how being Demon Dead compared.

He gave him a small smile out of one side of his mouth. "Thank you for that," he said quietly. He took down his shield and let them into the quarters.

"Mostly it means give me blood. I don't heal the way living people do, and some wounds I can never be healed from, never recover from. The best I can do is avoid things that are actively inimical to me. I could have chosen a safe after-life in the Dark Realm, where there is no sun, and pretty much no one to protect. But what would be the point in that?"

Minoru was used to transferring energy, not blood. But he had some to spare in a pinch, he supposed. But while he had a much larger chakra pool than most shinobi, even among his clan, he doubted he had any more blood than any normal person. It might be a useful antivenom, though, given how long he'd been training with snake venom.

"Not much of a life. Or afterlife." Minoru had to agree. Rarely did he pick the safest option for anything. "You had a choice in which world you'd go next?"

"I did. This is, however, the world after that one."

"Is that something that happens often, getting to choose where you go?"

[the_blood]

"All of the Demon Dead go to H***. If we want to leave, we have to petition the High Lord."

[itmeanstruth]

Unless the Underdark counted, and in some ways Minoru thought it might, that was one dimension he had yet to travel to.

"You must have made a good petition." He guessed, although he wasn't sure how difficult a task that was. "Did you know Ailyshia before?"

Perhaps that helped?

"No. We met when we arrived here, actually. I just wanted to keep serving a Lady. He let me serve in Dhelman, which is where I was born, because everyone I had known there was long gone. It would not have been right, according to Saetan, for me to return to Glacia, where I had been serving."

[itmeanstruth]

"I'm glad you got to do what you wanted to do most." Minoru smiled. It gave him hope that the dead's wishes could be considered so thoughtfully.

That last part, he supposed, was more for their sake than Theiorn's. It likely would have been difficult for others to interact with someone they knew raised from the dead but not truly alive. It was why edo tensei was considered a forbidden jutsu.

"Are you happy? Was it a good choice?"

[the_blood]

"I was until we were here. Honestly... she and I are not a good match. Back home I would not have chosen to serve her, and she would not have chosen to accept me." He shrugged a bit. "But it is still better than fading into the darkness, leaving her here unattended."

"What would make you a better match?"

Maybe something could be done to improve things for the both of them.

If she were less prickly and hated males less, or if I was four-footed and covered in fur."

Minoru thought for a moment. "Maybe you could find her an animal companion? Lots of people on board the Enterprise have pets!"

(Plenty had cats, anyway. Of which his Cat roommate was highly territorial around...)

"Perhaps, but unless he was Kindred, I'd not feel it enough to protect her, would you?" Or Arcerian. If an Arcerian cat, even one that wasn't Kindred, chose to protect someone they were safe. More or less. 800 pounds of muscle and claws was hard to sneak past.

For a moment, Minoru cringed, but not because of the cat's size or ability. (His twin brother signed his summoning contract with the ninja cats, and Nekomata was quite a force to be reckoned with.) It was his roommate's potential reaction to such a large cat that worried him. And how much their quarters would reek of cat pee.

"That would be quite a pet..."

"They aren't pets. If you are very lucky, they are friends. If you are very unlucky, they are death incarnate."
