After everything that had happened and Simon staying with her that time until she'd finally fallen into an exhaustive sleep when she couldn't cry any more. Kaylee felt that they should be able to do something a little bit more cheery. Sat in Ten Forward though she felt awkward. Serenity was home, the big table and the chairs were familiar and that was what was wrong then. No matter how nice the folk were that she'd met already it wasn't home.
Kaylee missed being able to go curl up in the hammock in the engine room and let the noise of the engine keep her company as she read until her eyes closed. There was no going back to that. Everything had changed. There were no tatty paperbacks here for her to read. Instead she had a PADD and was going through what she could access from that.
That was how she could be found with the PADD at the table.
