Closed for Chekov and Captain Kirk

Chekov was quite pleased by two things. The first one being that Captain Kirk was also here on this ship and the second being that the they were roommates now. He couldn't help but find it a bit awkward as well sharing a room with the Captain and wasn't sure what to really expect.

The only thing he didn't like was that he still didn't get to do any work. He hated being idle and he really wanted to know more about the ship. Then there was that urge to prove himself.

Right now he was playing with the PADD trying to hack into a few things and testing to see how tight the security was on this ship. This was the problem when he got bored. He ended up getting into trouble. He really wanted to see how updated this ship was and how much the system changed if at all. It didn't help that his crew was known for not exactly following the rules and guidelines Starfleet had set.

With the curiosity getting the better of him, he quickly zoned out around him and set to work trying to break into the security. He didn't plan to do anything once he got in, it was just more looking. He wanted to see how good this security team actually was.

He felt his face flush and he dipped his head in appreciation. To hear such praise from someone he admired and respected was more then he could hope for. It pushed away a lot of his own personal doubt he struggled with.

"I'm proud to work alongside you, Captain," Chekov managed to say after a while. "You're one of the first to really believe I could do this. Even back at home...no one gave me the support you gave."

As much as he loved Russia, he had to do everything on his own and it was through his own determination he came to Starfleet.

Jim reached up and patted his back in between his shoulders at the younger man's reaction. Despite Scotty's grumpiness in regards to the state of the Enterprise during the incident, he wasn't actually angry at the kid, Jim knew.

He knew he told him that it was sabotage that ended up crippling their ship, but he didn't know how long it would be before Chekov accepted that and relieved himself of that guilt.

"Now, I know that's not true. You're young, sure, but you've got everything Starfleet looks for and then some. Spock believed in you when Bones called you out on your age, you remember?"

Bones had been so grumpy and skeptical about a 17 year old on the bridge, but his concerns were unwarranted. "You're going to be a fine officer. Who knows, maybe you'll end up with a ship of your own one day."
