Ten Forward, Open

Personal Log, stardate 44195.79851598155...

After recording his log, Remy looked around the expanse of Ten Forward, smiling, as his hands almost automatically drew out a new deck of cards, opened them, and then started shuffling them. But not normally.

Remy was fond of games. He liked games especially if they were skill games, ones requiring an expenditure of effort, not just to win the game, but to show you had some skill in some area. He had played many such back home, from roofrunning to thievery, and he had never backed down from them. He liked them, and what each one brought to his mind new ideas and new variations of old skills and abilities.

Coming up with new ways to shuffle cards was one such thing, and as he watched the room, he began using one new technique after another. Side shuffle, flip the tip, run the line, and more were added to a normal shuffle, then made more complex by card being flipped in the air, and caught, sometimes slowly, and sometimes faster. He wasn't being flashy about it, or trying to catch attention, he was just working on being busy.

She looked up, her two toned eyes meeting his with a smile. Her cheeks aren't so red but she was still a little flustered.

"Thanks. I'm not really used to it." which was obvious by her reaction.

Eyes met eyes, and he grinned. She was definitely getting better at this. "But you are seemingly getting better about that." He nodded to her.

"Good."

"I guess so. It's still really strange. I'm sort of used to just doing what I wanted but.. I don't know. I hadn't really expected to be around this long." She sighed letting her head rest in the palm of her hand. She wasn't the type to over think things but being on this ship had given her to much time to think lately.

Remy smiled at her and nodded. "No sure I like being around this long either. But for now, I'm stuck, and you're stuck, and we have to try to make the best of it, I'll wager."

He had been having his own adventures.

She smiled. "I guess so. What have you been up too?" She took a sip from her drink watching him as he spoke. She was sure he was having fun of his own, he didn't seem the sort to sit around and be idol.

Yuna sat back in her seat finishing her drink and setting it to the side.

Sparring in the holodeck with a friend, teaching dragon poker and Fizban Proper to some crewpeople, as well as Cajun Spin, and other games that this time apparently doesn't know." He chuckled. "Greeting a few old friends who showed up, and mostly staying out of trouble, for now."

Yuna paused and looked at him slightly confused. "Dragon poker, Fizban Proper and Cajun Spin?" She repeated the words carefully unsure what to make of the names.

She hasn't heard of anything like that though her world didn't have many games.

"All games. The first two are card games, the last one is a party game without cards for people who don't mind sexual situations." He grinned at her. "I'll show you how to play them sometime." He would enjoy teaching her. Even if the last one might make her blush a lot.

Her mind wondered what he meant about sexual situations but she supposed at some point she will be able to ask and find out about them.

"Alright, that sounds like fun." She pointed to the cards he had been playing with. "Do you play cards a lot?"

Remy grinned at her. "Whenever you want."

He took the cards, effortlessly shuffling them in complex patterns. "I used to, but I don't as much any more." He chuckled. "When you've played as long as I have, it stops being as much of a challenge after awhile."

Yuna's finger lightly pressed against her lips. "I've only ever played poker and it was before I was on this ship." It had been an interesting game, though Loki had threatened Yuna was strip poker because she played so poorly. Then she learned to cheat which she didn't much care for.

"Why not show me a game?"

"Poker, eh? Not a bad game. Some of it's variants can be fun." Remy grinned at her. "Surely. What would you like to learn?"

He was willing to help her learn all she wanted.

Yuna laughed softly. "I don't know the names of any of the games. Besides poker. Why don't you pick one?"

Her tone was light and playful. It was obvious that she was having fun. She didn't grow up with a lot of games and so learning new ones was always a little exciting.

"Sure." he smiled at her. "How about Dragon Poker, then." He nodded and pulled out a set of cards that were bright green on their backs and started to deal. "Dragon Poker is a game of skill and surprise."

He began to deal. "In most ways it is like poker, but several cards change how the game is played." He went on to explain slowly each card and how to changed things, from the Hunter to the Dragon itself.

When he was done, there was a small pile of cards at her side, and a small pile at his side.

Yuna watched and listened carefully leaning forward as he explained the cards. It was close enough to poker that she thought she could pick up all of the rules. Her fingers pressed against her cards before moving to peek at them.

"So this is my hand then?"

"Exactly. Now you pay attention to every card laid down and in what order, because..." Remy nodded as he told her, and then began to show her, how to play, laying down a card, then explaining how it worked and how it interacted with other cards in the game. Step by step he showed her, the steps slow since with Dragon Poker everything changed depending on which cards were actually showing.

And which ones weren't.

Yuna listened closely letting him step her through the game. She would stop him and ask questions and then let him continue his explanation once she had made sure she understood. After a while she was smiling and talking more than he was.

"This is really neat. Do you think I can win against you?"

"Probably, if you pay attention, and you play your best. I have a few years of skill and experience over you. But this game also counts heavily on luck. One card turning up in the right place can turn a winning hand into a losing one, and vice versa." Remy chuckled. "You can be the best player in the world, but without cheating, you wont ever have a guaranteed win."

Yuna laughed at that. "You know luck is one of the few things I have with games like these. I'm not very good otherwise."

She was easy to read even when she tried to keep her feelings and thoughts a secret. When it came to games like these she was at a disadvantage without lady luck.

"Good. Then you might have a good chance of winning, or losing." He grinned at her.

"This game is especially like that. Sometime, we'll have to play Sabaac, too."

[whereishe]

Her head tilted to the side curiously. "Sabaac?" That wasn't a name she was familiar with though she would never say no to a game. If it meant fun then it was worth giving it a try.

"It's a spacial game requiring a special table and special cards, but I bet the holodeck could set it up." Remy nodded. "Another day, though, It would take some time to set up. And who knows how much more to get it right."

Remy chuckled. It would be fun, though.

"Alright. Maybe we can get others to join too." Yuna's smile widened and she looked at her empty glass.

"I should probably head to the gym." It was really the only productive thing she did besides writing music though sitting around drinking and talking did sound like too.

"Sounds like a plan." Remy grinned at her and rose, extending a hand to her. "It was nice talking with you. I expect to hear you've had more adventures the next time we talk!"

He winked at her.

Yuna felt her cheeks flush as she took his hand. She wasn't used to hand shakes because she was revered by so many. She supposed they were to intimidated to shake her hand.

"It was nice talking with you too. Though I think you might be having more adventures than me." She smiled.
