Practice makes Perfect

"Tails."
"Tails."
"Tails."
It didn't take an astute observer to realize she wasn't just beating the odds of probability, she was calling them correctly before they landed. Time, after time, after time. The coin she was flipping might look familiar to any Andromeda crew still on board. Dylan had given it to her, back when she was purple. And still had a tail. It was a fun game she played. Messing with the right influence at the right time. Only this time it was with a coin and not people. That way Dylan wouldn't get mad at her.

He didn't understand. How could he, he was organic, mortal, trapped within his own limited perceptions and understanding. Still, that was part of the reason she needed him. He wasn't just any ordinary mortal. She needed him. All the possibilities, all the best possibilities, circled around him. She just had to get him to understand her methods were necessary. He needed to trust her.
"Tails."
"Tails."
Trance flipped the coin onto the back of her hand, the motion practiced and almost boring.
"Tails."

Rosalind took the coin and examined it. It flipped normally for her. She handed the coin back, looking around at all the marvels that surrounded her. "Do you manipulate probability? This coin reminds me of a thought experiment I performed with a colleague once, where we thought a coin passed through time or universes might only be able to land on one side"

"Soon I would have," Rosalind blushed, despite her calm expression. Oh that experiment was fraught with ulterior motives, both hers and her patron's. Still, it was worth doing if she could further scientific discovery. "I suppose that's already been done, here." She sighed softly. It wasn't bad, but it was a little disappointing to leave an experiment to be finished by someone else.

"I beg your pardon, my manners are terrible at the moment. I'm Rosalind Lutece." She sketched a formal but quick curtsey.

Rosalind looked sheepish, blushing just a little. "I don't know everything they do. I wouldn't feel right stepping in until I understood all the discoveries made in my field since my time. There's quite a bit of reading to do in order to catch up."

The very last thing Rosalind could stand was being a bother to her fellow scientists. They would laugh at her and worse they might patronize her. No, it was best to be well educated before pursuing that course.

"That seems like an even more compelling reason to learn on my own." Rosalind noted, her tone a little crisp. She didn't like to be second guessed or have her decisions questioned, even if it was well-intentioned. "What makes the warp technology impossible in your universe?" She wanted to know how it worked at all and this might be a way to get that information.

Rosalind listened and had to admit that her head was swimming at the end of it. So much had changed. She'd invented quantum physics in her time but she was early in her work and nothing made sense

She sighed and shook her head. "I am too far behind. Damn that insufferable wretch Q for taking me away from everything."

(ooc: ha ha so I'm not dropping Ros, do you mind continuing? It's okay if you don't wanna.)
