Talk like a pirate day - this isn't how it was at all (open)

Sam actually lived during parts of the golden age of piracy. These people's teeth are far too well tended, they smell better, the rum is a lot less... dirty, and who in all the hells ever talked like /that?/

But ok. So the pirate outfit is actually better than the stupid indian ones. And there's rum. Rum makes so many things better. Sam is wandering down the halls here and there, quite steadily, despite the bottle of rum being two-thirds gone, with three parrots having adopted 'him', and a couple more perching on the ornithopter that rolls behind Sam.

"Genocide?" Yeah, with what's going on on the frontier, and the things she sees as cultures encounter each other, it makes sense. "That must be some magic."

Lorna simply nods and takes a deep breath. "So do you like birds or do they just like you?" It was best to change the topic, because no good would come of talking about Genosha or M day.

"I like all sorts of animals when I'm not hunting. Got to know enough of 'em, I can usually get the curious ones to come and pay greetings."

That was a charming mental image. Lorna smiled widely. "They say animals are a good judge of character."

Which was when her bird decided to finally absorb her lessons. It squacked out a string of profanity quite loudly, which sent Lorna into a fit of laughter.

"Then there's this lot, who have it in mind to drink, and cuss, and maybe learn how to get a poker game going when they get back."

[magneticxman]

"They're my kind of birds," Lorna said with a grin. "I've been trying to get the bird to cuss all day."

[immutablysam]

"Fair warning, once you get them to start, the trick is getting them to stop again. The others'll pick it up."

[magneticxman]

"I don't think of that as a problem. At least they're not picking up alarm clock noises or something similar."

[immutablysam]

"True enough, would be annoying. I'm still getting used to the alarm thing in the first place."

[magneticxman]

"I can't imagine life without alarm clocks."

[immutablysam]

"I got annoyed enough with all the big, fancy buildings in Europe, having to get used to clocks for the time, 'stead of just checking the sun."

[magneticxman]

"You've been everywhere, huh?"

[immutablysam]

Sam glances around at the ship. "Apparently not. Just about everywhere on Earth, though."

[magneticxman]

"That's a good point," Lorna says with a laugh. "Have you seen any other planets?"

[immutablysam]

"A few now. They decided maybe I was good to my word once and let me scout for a group. That turned out well, so they've been a touch more disposed to doing it again when we go planetside anywhere with wilderness."
