[Ten Forward]: Rooming Assignments | Round #15

Now that Dr. Crusher's medical team has cleared a sizable number of new passengers for ship-wide access comes a big day for them: the day they receive their official introduction to the Enterprise. It starts with a tour of the ship and some background to the situation, delivered by Chief O'Brien.

The tour covers the main areas of the ship, and a history of recent events, Q-inspired and otherwise.

Once the tour has wrapped up, it normally falls on Worf's shoulders to assign the new arrivals quarters and instruct them on the correct behavior and protocols needed for life aboard the Enterprise. They have been gathered together in Ten Forward, and are awaiting further instructions on how to proceed. Unfortunately, Worf is still unavailable, and so instead it falls on Lt. Junior Grade Baldwin’s shoulders to do so, just as it did last month.

As he has done this before, Baldwin has a speech prepared:

"The computer will instruct you on where all cleared-for-access decks are. You only have to ask where the area you are trying to get to is located, and it will give you clear directions. Do not visit any restricted areas. The bridge, engine rooms, transporter rooms, and all command centers are off-limits.

"With that in mind, there are a few rules you must obey before I give you your new assignments. One, do not discharge any weapon while on the Enterprise. Two, do not assault any other passenger aboard in any way; that includes injury, death, or violating their personal rights. Three, do not tamper with the operational procedures of the ship. Four, do not steal items or technology from the ship. Five, do not interrupt any official areas of the ship without proper authorization, and do not invade the privacy of other guest or crew quarters.

"Copies of the Prime Directive will be made available to all of you, and placed in each room. As you are not Starfleet officers, you are not obligated to abide by this rule; however, it is important you understand why we do.

Looking down at the safety of his PADD, he says, "Room assignments are as follows," before reading off the list of quarters, their location, and the guests who will be sharing them.

"I will remain here to answer questions," Baldwin says, managing to keep the reluctance out of his voice. "And the rest of the Security team will be standing by to escort you where you need to be."

The list is also displayed on a PADD, where people can refer to it if they need to.


[ooc: Open log for building CR with new roommates and meeting neighbors, "party post" style! Rooms are aligned the way they would be in a typical hotel: odd numbers on the left, even numbers on the right (so 0711 and 0713 will be next door neighbors, while 0712 is directly across the hall). There is a post in the OOC comm where players can connect with questions and find more details about the rooms themselves, so check in over there. If you need to ask security questions, or need them to swing by another thread, just put "Security officer, please!" in the subject line of your tag, and the mods will send someone to you ASAP. The tour given by Chief O'Brien is not open for tagging; you can assume your character had any basic questions answered. ]

"They can when you like certain things and so obviously it must be theirs because it's so important. Also it probably smells a lot like you since you probably wear it a lot."

He looked down at Pocky. "Is that so though? Yes, I suppose Thea should have a talk with your human."

To her he said, "How's your brother doing? Pocky's worried about him."

Thea nodded,"It makes sense since I don't think I wore any jacket besides that one for ages." She took a breath,"Long story short: Oliver's not in a good place mentally and that's all I'll say." since she and Oliver had become protective of each other more than ever. And she quickly changed the subject since she was not ready to talk beyond a select few,"How could you tell what he was saying?"

"My knack is the ability to understand and be understood by animals." Trever said simply.

"He said that his human wasn't eating and was confused as to why his human wasn't doing so. Because he liked eating and so his human should like eating too because eating is fun and yummy."

Thea nodded, it actually made sense when she got to thinking about it. Of course Kit Kat had to chime in about her human not sleeping or eating plus being so sad when kitty was so happy. "We're both going through some rough things."

It does explain how he was able to find Thea's place and why he was arguing with his cat.

He glanced at Kit Kat and then raised his eyebrows. "She's noticed. She doesn't understand why you're so sad when she's so happy. You should be happy because she's happy. Also, that you're not sleeping or eating either."

"Oh Miss Kit Kat, your human is not in a great place either. She knows your happy but its just hard for her right now." Thea let the kitten nuzzle her arm. "Its ironic but she's gotten me to smile for the first time in what feels like ages."

Trever smiles gently. "Animals are really good at that sort of thing. There's a reason why hospitals use therapy animals. I've read studies that show that having a pet is good for your health. I wouldn't say they give you unconditional love, but they aren't bothered by our human problems."

He held up a finger. "However, you can end up hurting them if you don't take care of yourself. If you stop eating she might stop eating too or any other host of problems. They can sense your moods after all."

Trever is trying to coach this in terms of helping the kittens and not 'you two need to go see the doctor about this whole depression thing and get yourselves checked out' because he's not a human doctor after all. Even if he does know that people not eating is bad.

And he is telling the truth because the kittens did just tell him about Oliver and he's not met the man.

Trever was basically acting as another kick in the getting help wagon, something Thea honestly needed to hear. "They have totally noticed, they go into happy kitty overdrive when we're at our lowest." she mused. But she did whisper,"We're working on it." meaning the stuff in their heads.

"They want you to be happy. If only so you'll play with them and feed them and scratch them. They're kinda selfish that way. Come here Kit Kat, lemme check you over."

He reached out for the kitten.

"And I believe you are."

As Kit Kat and Pocky traded places (and basically acting like 4 legged versions of their humans) Thea nodded. "They will do almost anything for attention from moving into our jackets to batting at pants legs." she observed. "And are jackets ok for short term cat beds or can it be a full time thing?"

"They're little kids, essentially," Trever said, scooping Kit Kat up and rubbing her belly.

He ran his fingers over her doing the same thing as he did for her brother before answering.

"Cats will sleep anywhere. One of the old barn cats back home loved sleeping in the horse's feed bucket. It's probably better to get them their own beds though. You want to use your jackets after all, right? And you don't want to deprive them of their beds," Trever said bopping the kitten's nose.

"They should settle down and find their favorite spots soon enough."

"I would like my jacket back eventually." Thea weakly giggled. "But since we did just move Pocky and Kit Kat will have to find new roosts and I think beds are next on a growing list of must haves." she mused. Kit Kat mewed in agreement about a bed in the near future.

"Heh. She agrees with you. You've got a scratching post too, right? They'll need that unless you want them to scratch up the furniture."

Trever paused.

"Would you like me to write you down a cat starter kit for you?"

"A crash course will help." Thea nods. Kit Kat mewed agreement, her momma is new at this. "Lists mean less thinking and just checking items off." something her messed up mind needed was less to think about.

"And that will including me coming back later for vaccinations. Thankfully they're not as troublesome as they are back home. And I would like to spay and neuter them, but they're your cats so I can't make you do anything you don't want to," Trever said. "Do you have something for me to write on."

He tickles Kit Kat under the chin and gives Pocky an amused look. Veena has grabbed him and is grooming him industriously.

Thea fished for a small pad of paper and a pen for Trever as she spoke. "Its already on the list for when she's a bit bigger, I'm guessing she's maybe 6-9 months old?" she added. Kit Kat happy mewed before heading back for Thea's jacket. "So besides jackets what is at risk for becoming a cat bed?"

"She's definitely old enough now. But not healthy enough. I'd like her to put on a little bit more weight before I do so. Both of them. They're in decent shape though. And no fleas. You got lucky there."

Trever started scribbling things down on the pad of paper. "Anything that a cat can presumably sleep on. One of Veena's kittens' loves sleeping in a pot. We've given up using that pot to cook in because she gets so upset when we use it. Uncle Adian was pissed because that was his favorite pot."

Thea nodded since the irony was not lost on her. Kit Kat and Pocky were basically her and Oliver on so many levels it was nuts. But she did giggle over Trever's tale about Veena's kitten sleeping in a cooking pot,"Now that is cute. And what should we be feeding them since I don't think they will be fond of table scraps." going for a weak try at humor.

He leaves out the bit about how the pot is usually filled with water because Fluffy can breath under water. That tends to weird out people.

"They've got some good food from the replicator. I'm writing those down. They actually wouldn't mind table scraps but you would. Cats on the table and everything. Believe me - my little cousins fed the kittens off the table and now we can't get them off." He smiles at her.
