Ezri sipped a mug of hot chocolate, spiced enough to satisfy Jadzia and Curzon without completely killing her own taste buds. Balance. She was working on it--and considering she had stopped counseling until she felt she was more in balance, that was probably a good thing. How could she help people when she couldn't help herself? She was more screwed up than most of them. Those weren't exactly wonderful qualifications in a counselor.

In order to figure out who she was, Ezri needed to re-evaulate her life, and make sure the choices she had made are still choices she would make now, as Ezri Dax. Easier said than done.

"What am I doing? Talking to myself obviously, great sign of sanity."

"I am. Whatever Rom has told you is probably more accurate than what Quark has." They were far too much alike in many respects. It led to them both stubbornly refusing to see eye to eye on certain key matters. The one area where Quark did take after Keldar.

"It's something you worked to be able to do, isn't it?" Seems senseless to set it aside.

"He does." He resists the idea kicking and screaming. All the time. But he was still who he was, as much as he hated it.

"It's straightforward, to him. It doesn't matter whose memories you have in your head on top of your own. If you're a good customer, he treasures you." She'd taught him that.

"Especially then." Oh, Quark would never admit it. But Ishka knew her son, whether he wanted to admit it or not. "He respects that. No matter how much he grumbles about losing to females." Someday he would admit to what that meant. Maybe.

But he's very stubborn. "He's too much like me sometimes."

"That would mean finally accepting that I had better lobes for business than my husband ever did." She loved him, but things would have been better for the family if he'd just listened to the advice she was trying to give him. And he always wanted the best for the family.

"He's a bit old fashioned but maybe someday he'll catch up to Ferenginar."

Ishka laughs. "'Mother take those clothes off before someone sees you.' He's been complaining about it for years. Not sure why he thinks it'll help." Because he's just as stubborn as he is, that's all there was to it. "I even tried telling him that letting females wear clothing means a whole no industry of selling clothing for females."

"You can't be a bartender and hate people as much as he pretends to. Not if you want your bar to stay in business." She sees right through him on that one. He was a better person than he would ever let on. It just happened he'd gotten it into his head that he couldn't be a good Ferengi at the same time.
