Problems of the U // Team 9's Feeling Fine!
The last place he wanted to be when the earth shook like that was underground. But maybe, just maybe, after that first shake that was all they were in for.
It was not to be. As the world came down around them, he ducked and covered his head. Through the dust and falling rocks, he didn't see that fairly sizable stone coming down toward him. He let out a shout of pain when it made impact. He rolled over onto his side and scrambled away from the rock, in case more were coming. Fortunately, it was a glancing blow. A stone that size could have hurt him a lot worse if it had hit him squarely.
He stayed curled up until the shaking stopped, and the last pebbles settled. He patted his vest. It didn't seem like anything critical had been damaged.
Time to see how the others had fared. He called out to the room at large. "Oi--ow!" he wrapped his arm around his chest. Okay, that really hurt. The black of his vest and pants was muted by the settling dust as he pushed himself to his feet. "Everyone alright?"
He had someone else to check on, too. He pulled out the Stag Phone, jabbed a button and put it to his head. He was rewarded with a loud, shrill shriek and he jerked it from his head. Okay, that was weird. He started pushing pseudo memories into it, the flying blue Bat Shot, and the skittering yellow Spider Shock. "Go find anyone else in trouble," he told them.
While he did that, he experimented a bit with breathing in a way that wasn't painful while he looked around the smaller space that had been the large main room. Nothing but rocks. He took a few steps around the rock that had wounded him. "Anyone else out there?"

"One piece is pretty damn good if you ask me," he answered Jim. "I don't think we've met before." He ignored the comment about the name. He'd cover that in a minute.
But hearing Philip made him smile. He didn't seem like he was under any strain or in any pain, either. "Underground. In what used to be the big main chamber. There's been some remodeling, though. We're still getting everyone together." Oops, that was a wrong way to twist. He flinched severely and wrapped an arm around himself again.

He remains silent for a moment.
"I'm sorry, is there someone standing behind me?"

Okay, it was time to explain a little bit. "It's a lot to explain, but I'm talking to my partner. He's up top. They've had the same kind of trouble we are. So at least we're not completely cut off."
He addressed Philip again. "Stag just screeched at me when I tried to call you. Otherwise the gadgets are doing what they do best. I'll let you know when I get a better idea of who's here with me and figure out some kind of way of getting out of here. Take care up there, partner."

He wasn't going to say it, and he didn't need to with the connection through the Driver, but he was beyond relieved that Shotaro was all right. Now he could relax and work on figuring out what to do.

He nods.
"Ah. Okay. I was starting to think maybe the lights were on and nobody was home."

He removed the belt and tucked it away again. "I guess it's easy for it to look that way. I've got a few extra tricks up my sleeves than your average detective." He reached up to brush the dust off his fedora.
"Come on, let's go see if anyone needs picking out of this rubble." Come to think of it, this guy reeked of booze. Hopefully he was still useful.

"It's certainly nothing you'd find in Raymond Chandler," Jim says.
He nods, adjusting his gun belt. "Right. Let's go."

Shotaro continued the circle around the outside, when a voice caught his attention. There was one of the scientists stuck under a table that had just enough integrity to keep from crushing the poor girl. There were some other rocks around keeping her from just climbing out from under it. "Hey, there," he said, crouching down where she could see them. "Are you hurt?"

Raymond Chandler writing a sci-fi detective story. Could've been interesting.
He jogs to catch up to the younger and more spry private dick.
The scientist grunts and coughs. Well, she's conscious, at least.
"I s'pose we should clear these boulders."

He's not as limber as he once was.
