[Sickbay]: Round Eight Scans and Vaccines

O-kay, so things have been a little ... odd on the ship. Some people have been acting rather out of character, ducking their duties for romantic escapades or complaining that their good friends aren't quite themselves. Romance may be in the air, but the CMO has other ideas. Like maybe an alien pest who likes to play tricks on people. Her sickbay hasn't gone unaffected, but luckily the strange effects are beginning to wear off and people are returning to work. Still, she's prepared to treat anything. Just please assure her you were safe and responsible if you, uh, made a special friend.

If this is your first trip to Sickbay, you may be surprised to see that it's a fairly ordinary-looking hospital. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you might see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones. As for the staff, they're all well-groomed and friendly. As a matter of fact, all personnel look harmless. Well, relatively harmless.

If you're new to the ship, no doubt you've been escorted here by the security team. Nothing to worry about, the doctors just want to make sure you aren't carrying any viruses or are vulnerable to terrible space disease. Once you've been checked over — a quick scan from a tricorder and any necessary vaccines — you'll be free to go. Lollipops are optional.

"All right, step on in," one of them calls out as you enter. "Don't be afraid. It's just a scan and a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

If you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. For those who are tagging: if you have a preference which doctor sees your character, please specify in the subject line of your tag who you would like (Beverly Crusher, Julian Bashir, Sam Wilson, Mack Gerhardt, and Merlin are definitely on deck, with possible appearances by others). "Understandable. I myself am not from this time." Seeing her action and sensing the flows of the energy now that he was paying attention, he sighed. Hmmm, how interesting!

Then, with a thought, Merlin reached out with his powers. Without touching her or her powers directly, he concentrated and removed the ambient energy around her at about a pace of five feet, so her own space and field would remain untouched.

"And no one here asked to bring you here, or be exposed. But no, I won't force you. I will let the chief medical officer know, so she can talk to you if she needs to, because of her duties, but otherwise, I'm not interested in forcing you to do anything." His eyes were gentle and warm as he nodded to her.

he selected a vial for the hypospray, showing her the label, which said vaccinations on it and had a number and letter sequence. "This is the current vaccination we have. It's been calibrated to get you set up to be resistant to anything this time knows of."

Lorna nodded, eying the hypospray warily. She'd agreed to this, but she was still nervous about it. Medical things were no longer something she could tolerate easily. "Um, how does it work?"

"It uses a blast of compressed air to pass the medicine directly into your bloodstream. No needles, no pain."

He nodded to her. Merlin was hopeful she could deal with it.

Lorna nodded and reigned her powers in further. Shocking the doctor wouldn't accomplish much. "Okay. Go ahead and do it. Is there a form I need to fill out to officially refuse medical care?"

Merlin opened his mouth, then closed it. "I am not sure. I'll administer this, and if you are willing to wait, I will find out for you?" Since she had given the okay for it, he went ahead and used the hypospray on her arm, gently pressing it home.

Then he waited for her agreement to go get the information before moving off.

Lorna nodded and waited anxiously for Merlin to return. She didn't want her powers to interfere with the equipment, but she also wanted to shield herself from being scanned.

Merlin returned with a PADD for her to sign, and smiled. "Here we go. If you will just sign here?" He handed her a stylus. The form read specifically that she wished not to be scanned, and had options for her to indicate whether or not it would be allowed if she was hurt or in other duress, later.

"And that should be everything. That wasn't so bad, was it?"

Lorna signed and indicated that she wished to recieve no medical treatment. "I'm glad that you were reasonable, even if you don't think my demands are. Thank you."

"Why would we be otherwise?" Merlin grinned at her. "I hope you never have any need for assistance, in any way."

he bowed to her. "But if you do, call my name, and I will come to you." He grinned.

"What is your name?" Lorna asked, taking an interest in the person in front of her rather than simply viewing him as a doctor.

[themerlin]

My name is Merlin, milady, and I am at your service." He swept her a bow, and grinned at her, eyes dancing.

Lorna blinked, then shook her head and laughed. "Of course. Okay. Well I'm Lorna. I can't hear you if you say my name and I'm not there, but if you ever need something I guess you can ask?"

[themerlin]

Merlin grinned at her. "My thanks, Lorna." He grinned at her. "I hope you find you enjoy your stay here."

[magneticxman]

Lorna chuckled and rubbed her forehead. "If you ever want to talk or something please feel free to join my for dinner."

[themerlin]

Merlin smiled. "I would be delighted." he snapped his fingers and presented her with a card. It said simply Merlin in bold, glowing hot green color.

"My card."

[magneticxman]

Lorna took the card and smiled at it. "Thanks. I'll see you later?"

[themerlin]

"Of course, milady. I hope your stay here is not too annoying." he gave her a bow, grinning, and nodded to her. Merlin thought she was nice, for all her grumpiness at arrival, and maybe she would end up having trouble because of this, but hopefully not.

And he would look her up, another time.
