[Sickbay]: Round Eight Scans and Vaccines

O-kay, so things have been a little ... odd on the ship. Some people have been acting rather out of character, ducking their duties for romantic escapades or complaining that their good friends aren't quite themselves. Romance may be in the air, but the CMO has other ideas. Like maybe an alien pest who likes to play tricks on people. Her sickbay hasn't gone unaffected, but luckily the strange effects are beginning to wear off and people are returning to work. Still, she's prepared to treat anything.
If this is your first trip to Sickbay, you may be surprised to see that it's a fairly ordinary-looking hospital. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you might see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones. As for the staff, they're all well-groomed and friendly. As a matter of fact, all personnel look harmless. Well, relatively harmless.
If you're new to the ship, no doubt you've been escorted here by the security team. Nothing to worry about, the doctors just want to make sure you aren't carrying any viruses or are vulnerable to terrible space disease. Once you've been checked over — a quick scan from a tricorder and any necessary vaccines — you'll be free to go. Lollipops are optional.
"All right, step on in," one of them calls out as you enter. "Don't be afraid. It's just a scan and a hypospray, nothing to worry about."
[ooc: Sickbay is, as always, OTA! For new characters: tagging isn't mandatory but IC going to sickbay is. If you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. For those who are tagging: if you have a preference which doctor sees your character, please specify in the subject line of your tag who you would like (Beverly Crusher, Julian Bashir, Sam Wilson, Mack Gerhardt, and Merlin are definitely on deck, with possible appearances by others). There is a post up in the OOC comm with more details if you have any questions.]

He finishes what he's doing on the PADD, gulps down the rest of his coffee, and then stands up.
"All right, man. Let's do this." A beat as he starts walking with him, shoving his PADD in his pocket as they go. Worf is, however, the first Klingon in Starfleet that he's met. "I'm Jim, by the way. What's your name?"
Small talk can't hurt, right? Though, Klingons don't seem to be overly fond of it. He'll give it a shot.

He nods, once, as he leads them out of Ten Forward, hand relaxing back at his side. He would be content to make the journey in silence. In fact, he would rather Kirk give him difficulties than ... small talk.
"I am Worf," he sighs, casting a sharp look Jim's way. "Son of Mogh, of the Klingon House of Martok."
If it is spoken with pride, then his following words are nearly a challenge. "Of the Human family Rozhenko."
no subject
"Worf, pleased to meet you." He cants his head up at him as they walk, that last bit of information catches him by surprise. He supposes it shouldn't seeing as he does have a half-Vulcan First Officer aboard his ship. The first Vulcan to join Starfleet to boot.
"Human? Were you raised on Earth?" That's---surprising. Good, surprising, actually.

He does not mention that the chief petty officer aboard the vessel who rescued him would become his father, and that he was hardly sent anywhere, but rather taken into the Rozhenko's family. That is not for Jim to know.

A little colony. A few thousand settlers. A lot of death. The situation isn't exactly the same, but it's familiar enough to be unsettling.
"I'm sorry for what happened," he offers, sincerity in his voice. Tensions are beyond high in the time he comes from. There's been a lot lost on all sides, and people masquerading as his side are just making things worse for everybody it seems.
Jim can appreciate playing things close to your chest, or that some things just aren't for others to know. He'd never hold a grudge about that. But he likes this guy, Worf.
"You seem like a pretty cool guy." Definitely the coolest Klingon he's met so far.
no subject
"Thank you," he says simply, with hard-to-banish reluctance in his voice. It is, however, as sincere as Jim's words were. What follows, on the other hand, puzzles Worf. He stares at Kirk, nonplussed, and then silently enters the turbolift.
A cool guy.
After providing the computer with their destination, he takes a moment to consider his words. "According to historical records, there was no friendship lost between the Klingons and Captain James Kirk."
no subject
"Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of history." Especially old American history. Everything that happened.
"But sometimes, you've got to just throw that text out the nearest airlock," he says as the turbolift starts towards their next destination. "Just cause it's been a little bumpy doesn't mean things can't be salvaged."
no subject
"Agreed." At least, he can agree about this one thing. "You do not believe that there are some things that cannot be — thrown out?"
no subject
"Certain things? No. We can't forget certain things that happened in our histories, personally and culturally, because even if they were terrible, they make us who we are." It doesn't mean he doesn't wish he could erase some things that he's seen and experienced, but the alternative is to forget, and that feels like it's the greater crime.
"But we learn from them, and try our best to move on to better things." A beat. "Together."
