Mrs. Amelia Jessica Pond-Williams Cordially Invites You to Get Your Freak On {Blind Date Mixer!}

In some wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey universe where it is a perfect Saturday night and certainly not a Sunday afternoon, one can walk into a lounge out in the heart of space and see it made over with candles and linen tablecloths and red rose centerpieces. It's not anything quite as grand as what Q could do. Amy is using the romance of the room: windows looking out across the stars, soft lighting; she even has a trio in one corner playing flute, cello, and violin.

As you walk into Ten Forward, you'll see a sign which says ♥    BLIND DATING TONIGHT, 7PM    ♥ and a redhead standing by with those name tags you stick on your shirt that say HELLO MY NAME IS ______ and a clipboard of seat assignments. Not all the tables are taken; even if Amy's first go at this had been that big of a success, the woman in charge, Guinan, insisted the room stay open for other patrons. She's taken mostly the tables around the outside of the room, where there is the best view of space and a little privacy, and each of those tables has a number on it.

If your name is on her list, you'll get a name tag and a little card with your table number on it. "Here you go. The bar's open while you wait, I bribed Guinan t' have out the real stuff, so you can tell her I sent you. No gettin' carried away, though. And no funny business, you treat your date with respect or I'll have you by the ear before night's out. I'll be round if you need anything."

Once everyone's been checked off her list, she's going to settle at the bar and have a drink. Match-making's hard business, but she truly thinks she outdid herself this time.


[ooc: So for everyone who's been on a blind date before, you know the drill. You and your partner will get a card with your table number, introductions can happen there and where it goes after that is up to you! The Date Gone Wrong scenarios are here if you need a refresher. You can mingle with other participants at the bar; after all, this is all about meeting new people! Threadhop, tag around, tag someone you might not otherwise meet, have fun with it. Again, you don't have to use this post, you can make your own locked posts for your dates, but this should give you a good idea of the setting you have to work with. "Is that so?" Samanosuke mused. To have that kind of power at one's fingertips was a little frightening to think about. Or perhaps awe-inspiring would be more accurate. Samanouske himself only had a small portion of that kind of power, on loan to him until such time as it was no longer needed; but he had heard tales of children descended from the Oni and the Genma themselves who possessed greater power yet.

"How fortunate to have such a wealth of pleasant memories to balance out the troubles."

"It is. And such is how the universes run, I think. There is good and bad, and as long as one does not become bitter by darkness or blinded by light, one will always see some of both." Merlin swirled he drink about.

I prefer to live in the now as much as possible, but some memories do help."

"Well, I hope you find the present to be an enjoyable one," he said, inclining his head. The gauntlet winked, as if to punctuate his words, and Samanosuke chuckled as he leaned back in his seat.

"I find it is rather nice to have the leisure to explore new hobbies, myself."

[themerlin]

"So far, I have." She chuckled. Both at his words and at the antics of the gauntlet.

"What are these hobbies you pursue?" She was curious now.

Samanosuke couldn't claim to know exactly what made the gauntlet behave the way it did. Just that certain magic seemed to have a life of its own. "Well, since there's not much need for samurai these days, I've been able to devote more time to music," he said. "After all, the mind and spirit must be nourished as well as the body."

[themerlin]

"It is indeed. Music can do a magic all of it's own kind." Merlin swigged some of her drink, then hmmed.

"What sort of music? Do you play, or sing?"

[sealed_gauntlet]

"Various woodwinds," he said, "And traditional music from Japan, mostly--though I have enjoyed a sampling of other styles from the archives. I'm afraid I have a lot of catching up to do, yet."

[themerlin]

"A beautiful period." She smiled, listening. "Well, this is a good place to do so. Have you taken advantage of the holodeck yet?"

Her voice made the words taken advantage sound very much dirty, as did her look at him, full of ideas of her own.

[sealed_gauntlet]

"I stumbled upon it shortly after my arrival," he said, "and found myself doing simulated battle with a creature known as Krampus." He chuckled, his brows arching at Merlin's look. "Somehow, I think you have another sort of sparring in mind, am I right?"

[themerlin]

"Truly? Good. I've fought a few things, there, myself." Merlin grinned at him.

His response made her laugh. "Both, actually. I like sex as much as the next person, but sparring of the more normal kind is also nice."

She grinned. "I was a warrior and a wizard long before I was a sage. I like to work with those who will give as good as they get." And she grinned. "And yes, I mean in both areas."

[sealed_gauntlet]

"Well, we shall see where the night takes us, shan't we?" Samanosuke replied with a chuckle. "I may be a bit out of practice in some regards."

[themerlin]

"Indeed we shall." Merlin smiled. "That's alright. I would be glad to give you a refresher course. In any regard." Her grin was impish.

Then she nodded. "Would you care to dance?"

[sealed_gauntlet]

"Oh, you're going to make me earn my keep tonight," Samanosuke grumbled playfully, but he stood, and made a sweeping, Western bow. "Let's see how much I remember from my days of traveling the world."

[themerlin]

Merlin's eyes sparkled as she rose and took his hand. "Well, yes. I just might. Sometimes we just need to have some fun."

She winked at him and stepped close to start a dance, soft music wafting out of the air. Of course, when she stepped closer, her top was such that his view of her front would get even more expansive.
