Mrs. Amelia Jessica Pond-Williams Cordially Invites You to Get Your Freak On {Blind Date Mixer!}

In some wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey universe where it is a perfect Saturday night and certainly not a Sunday afternoon, one can walk into a lounge out in the heart of space and see it made over with candles and linen tablecloths and red rose centerpieces. It's not anything quite as grand as what Q could do. Amy is using the romance of the room: windows looking out across the stars, soft lighting; she even has a trio in one corner playing flute, cello, and violin.

As you walk into Ten Forward, you'll see a sign which says ♥    BLIND DATING TONIGHT, 7PM    ♥ and a redhead standing by with those name tags you stick on your shirt that say HELLO MY NAME IS ______ and a clipboard of seat assignments. Not all the tables are taken; even if Amy's first go at this had been that big of a success, the woman in charge, Guinan, insisted the room stay open for other patrons. She's taken mostly the tables around the outside of the room, where there is the best view of space and a little privacy, and each of those tables has a number on it.

If your name is on her list, you'll get a name tag and a little card with your table number on it. "Here you go. The bar's open while you wait, I bribed Guinan t' have out the real stuff, so you can tell her I sent you. No gettin' carried away, though. And no funny business, you treat your date with respect or I'll have you by the ear before night's out. I'll be round if you need anything."

Once everyone's been checked off her list, she's going to settle at the bar and have a drink. Match-making's hard business, but she truly thinks she outdid herself this time.


[ooc: So for everyone who's been on a blind date before, you know the drill. You and your partner will get a card with your table number, introductions can happen there and where it goes after that is up to you! The Date Gone Wrong scenarios are here if you need a refresher. You can mingle with other participants at the bar; after all, this is all about meeting new people! Threadhop, tag around, tag someone you might not otherwise meet, have fun with it. Again, you don't have to use this post, you can make your own locked posts for your dates, but this should give you a good idea of the setting you have to work with. "Yes!"

Yuna clapped her hands together with a wide smile.

[decideformyself]

Philip stood up from the table and gestured for Yuna to follow him. Dinner could wait.

[whereishe]

"Right."

Yuna quickly followed letting him guide her to the holodecks. She walked next to him when there was room falling behind only to let others pass by.

"Are we going to see where you grew up then?"

[decideformyself]

As they reached the holodeck, Philip paused at the door, the enthusiasm briefly fading from his face. The place where he grew up was not worth showing to anyone.

"It's where I'm from," was all he said, then stepped inside before she could ask anything else. "Computer, load Fuuto Tower."

The black-and-yellow-lined room was replaced with the skyline of a typically large Japanese city (like so, minus the jerk with the cape). Philip and Yuna were standing on the viewing deck of a tall tower looking down over the city. If Yuna were to look up, she would see that there was a giant, languidly-spinning windmill above them.

"This is Fuuto," he said, "the city that my partner Shotaro and I come from."

Yuna's lips widened into an excited smile. "It's so big!" She looked up at the windmill before casting her gaze over the city. It was wonderful and she was lost for a moment at the scene.

"It's so tall. Don't you get dizzy looking up at them?" She glanced up against placing a hand on her forehead.

[decideformyself]

He shook his head, leaning against the railing. "This is fairly standard for cities in my world. In fact, Fuuto is only the eleventh largest city in Japan, if one counts the Tokyo metropolitan area as an individual city."

[whereishe]

"Really? I'm honestly not used to cities like this. Most towns in my home had stayed small." Not out of choice but because of that Yuna was always fascinated with big cities. "I haven't spent much time in cities like this."

She looked out over the scene her eyes looking as if she was in the mists of a dream. "It's so amazing."

[decideformyself]

He had to smile. He didn't have any experience with other cities except for in his reading, but he thought Fuuto was pretty amazing, too.

"Are small towns nice?" he asked.

[whereishe]

Yuna turned towards him with a wide smiled. "They are nice. It's the sort of place where everyone knows each other and when someone leaves their absence is felt."

She turned back towards the city leaning on the railing. "My cities in Spira never got very big. I think there are a few thousand people scattered across the world."

[decideformyself]

"The entire world?!" he repeated. "Such a population should be unsustainable."

[whereishe]

"Unsustainable?" She hadn't heard that before and she couldn't help but glance over at him. Her gaze clear and curious as she thought about what that might mean. Her world was very different from others and it was a little hard for her to explain.

"I guess so. Everyone works hard to survive and I know the population is slowly growing." Of course there were still monsters even though Sin had been taken care of.

[decideformyself]

"Unsustainable evolutionarily," he clarified. "Inbreeding will be inevitable. The population will likely dwindle and eventually die out."

[whereishe]

Yuna smiled nervously. "That would be true but my world has a very different connection to death and rebirth." She wasn't sure if she would be able to explain it.

"You see. We are connected to the magic of the planet. While we should probably get sick or be weak we are instead strengthened by the world and able to heal through it. Among other things." She hoped that it made sense.

[decideformyself]

"The planet itself gives you its strength..." That wasn't too unbelievable. Perhaps all worlds were similar, that way. "I hope for your people's sake that you're right, then."

[whereishe]

"It's how we are able to use magic too." Yuna held out her palm collecting ice in her hand as a quick display before letting it vanish back into air.

"Either way, we've been living like that for over a thousand years."

[decideformyself]

So they probably weren't in any immediate danger.

Philip tilted his head and gazed out over the Fuuto scenery. An idea came to him. "You should program a simulation of Spira!"

[whereishe]

"I've thought about it and I tried once but I don't know where to describe." She looked over at him with a wide smile.

"It's a pretty big place.

[decideformyself]

"I suppose it must be." That's why he still hasn't gone and programmed the rest of Fuuto. It would be far too much of a hassle. "Well, perhaps Q will grant us the opportunity to see one another's worlds some day."

[whereishe]

Yuna laughed softly. "I hope so. I think you'd like Spira. There are a lot of areas that when you think about it, don't make a lot of sense."

He appeared to be the type interested in that sort of thing but then she didn't know him very well. She smiled looking closer at the strange windmill. "What's this for?"

[decideformyself]

That did sound intriguing...

He followed her gaze upward. "Ah, that's a turbine. When the wind blows it, its kinetic energy is converted into electricity."

[whereishe]

"Ah, I guess that is helpful." She looked back at him smiling. "Thank you for sharing this with me."

It was amazing. She hadn't expected anything like this.

[decideformyself]

"It's not a problem. The program is publicly accessible, after all." Because Fuuto is a great city and everyone should get to see it.

"...ah, yes, we were in the middle of dinner, weren't we..."

[whereishe]

Yuna laughed. "We were but it's alright." Her hands swung at her sides as she walked in a circle looking out over the city.

"This was a lot fun. It's perfect."

[decideformyself]

"I'm glad." He smiled a bit smugly. His first date had been a rousing success, and he hadn't even intended to go on it in the first place. He doubted Shotaro had done as well.

[whereishe]

Yuna didn't really have anything to compare it to since it was a first for her but she had fun which was all that really matter. She looked over at him with a nervous smile.

"But how do you know when a dates over? We didn't eat anything." They way it had been explained to her was it ended after dinner. Which was something they seemed to have skipped.
