001 ☤ Arrival (Ten Forward)
"Doctor Lam," Chief Sergeant Walter called to her from the doorway of the infirmary.
"One moment," Carolyn replied distractedly as she finished writing in the chart she'd been working on. One of the Majors from SG-11 had hurt his wrist during his last mission and she'd just finished clearing him for duty... Again. It had been the third time that month that the man had managed to get himself hurt, though no one held Colonel Mitchell's record. She didn't even know for sure just how many times that he'd been hurt. By now it was probably getting up close to triple digits. Finishing up, she set her pen down and looked up finally and nodded a greeting to Walter. "What do you need?"
"General Landry would like to see you in the briefing room."
Carolyn's eyebrows drew together for a moment before she nodded her head. "Right, could you let him know I'll be right there?" She knew that putting off a meeting with her father for any reason wasn't a good idea, besides he wouldn't have been calling her to the briefing room if the reason he wanted to speak to her was for a personal reason.
"Yes Ma'am, I'll let him know," Walter agreed before stepping back and shutting the door behind him..
Gathering up a notepad and a few extra pens, Carolyn headed over to the door, and pulling the door open she stepped out into what should have been the passage way. Though, it was anything but. She was standing in a room she didn't even recognize... She wasn't even sure-- No, no this was no place at the SGC. And it didn't look like an Ori ship, not that she knew what one looked like inside but this didn't scream Ori and they were into the self promoting.
She stood there for a moment, her eyebrows both arching in complete disbelief. She turned her head to look behind her, and of course the infirmary was gone too.
How had they beamed her here? She had thought the base had installed anti-beaming technology. This was very strange joke to be playing on her.
"OK, guys. Ha ha. Very funny," she called out, expecting her dad or any of the SGC to jump out from behind maybe the bar and laugh at her. No one did though, and a frown soon found it's way onto her lips. This was getting old, fast. She glanced at the woman behind the bar and then at the those seated at the tables, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Okay, where are they?" She didn't even give them a chance to reply, just spun around, a hand planted firmly on her hip. "Okay guys! Joke's over! Time to take me home now.... Guys?"

"He brought me here too." She glanced around the lounge for a moment before looking back at the doctor. "I don't know if I can explain it well or even more than just that. It's a little odd."
no subject
"Right, just like that this Q just randomly brings people here." Like that was sane. She quickly shook her head. "A little? Try a lot, it's not even just odd, it's outright bizarre."
no subject
"That too." Yuna's head tilted to the side. "Sadly though it is true. Do you not believe me?"
She figured she could find a way to prove it. The easiest way was seeing the stars if that wasn't usual back in her own world. Though Yuna had a feeling it wouldn't be so simple.
no subject
She shoved the pens she was still holding her in hands into the pockets of her lab coat. This was nuts, there was no way that someone named Q could have taken her right out of the SGC, no way! "We have technology that makes things like the impossible," she said, still looking around the room.
"So you see he couldn't have just taken me."
no subject
Though from there current stale mate Yuna felt as if just saying so wouldn't convince the woman so she held out her hand summoning a flower made of ice and then evaporating it with flames. She closed her hand and they were gone.
"Like that."
no subject
Her eyes narrowed and she took a half step back. Okay, now the ice flower thing being evaporated by fire was certainly bizarre but she didn't believe it was magic.
"Nice show of powers. Doesn't mean it's magic."
no subject
Her smile stays in place as she spoke. "It depends on the world."
no subject
"There's nothing to understand. It's just a matter of genetics and species. " Science was what she was going to fall back upon. She might not understand what the hell was going on, but she'd always be able to fall back on science.
no subject
"Just in different words, I suppose."
She thought for a moment her expression shifting to something more serious. All of her thoughts were painted across her features as she spoke. "Then let's say it like this. A person named Q brought you here. He sucks." It was a different way to say it.
no subject
She shook her head and shrugged. "Well, it's not like he can keep us here forever, right? Surely there's a way we can get to where we're suppose to..." She glanced around. "Is he here? This Q?"
no subject
It wasn't so bad here but it took getting used too.
"You know, we might be able to find him but I don't think that we will be able to convince him to send us home."
no subject
"Is there a reason why he's doing this or it just because he can and he's bored?
Her tone is rather dry but she just can't even be bothered to pretend to be impressed by what this Q was doing. He had completely disrupted her life and honestly, she had way too much to do back home.
no subject
She let out a slow sigh leaning forward with her fingers laced behind her back. "You never really know what he might do next."
no subject
"So... Does he show up a lot or does he just plop people in here from time to time?"
no subject
The bland note of his voice made him sound almost bored. The bewildered reaction she had displayed was one that had become increasingly familiar to him, as he'd had the dubious pleasure of welcoming several new arrivals on board. He probably wouldn't have spoken up now, except that she had appeared right in the middle of his path to the bar.
"My condolences."
no subject
The fact that they apparently had found their way out of the Pegasus Galaxy was horrifying enough but that they had the technology to beam them people right out of the SGC was even worse. How was it that those on Atlantis didn't even send a warning?? She shook her head and automatically took a step backwards, needing to put space between her and the wraith.
"I don't know why you took me," she began but knew it could possibly be just to feed on which made any lasting color disappear from her face. "But I suggest putting me right back. They'll send people to look for me."
no subject
It also made him smile, a crooked sort of smile that showed many pointy teeth.
"Is that idea supposed to be intimidating?" He said before deciding to take pity and give her some honest information. "Even if I wanted to I couldn't. I was not the one who bought you here."
no subject
She stumbled back again, his smile making it feel as though her skin was crawling. She had no idea how the people on Atlantis had dealt with them but now she wished that she'd read every single report that had come in regarding them. Hindsight, it was seriously a pain in the ass.
Her eyebrows drew together and she shook her head, trying not to appear as afraid or confused as she actually was. "That makes no sense. Of course you did!"
Sorry for the delay. I'm the slowest of slowpokes.
We can be slow together! RL smacked me around for a bit.
Not that she would have been able to, she wasn't exactly the most physical of people even if she was in good shape. She was screwed.
RL does that, I've noticed.
"The fact of the matter is, that I was not responsible for this. I was brought here much in the same manner as you, several months ago." Several months, and he was moving around unhindered, and no-one seemed to be afraid of him. That held some meaning. Either, he'd been very stealthy about feeding, or, he hadn't been feeding. But, he looked healthy enough, not like he was starving.
"Have you been brought from Atlantis, then?"
and this got lost in the trash pit of my inbox
But one thing she couldn't figure out was why he'd been brought there. It didn't make sense to her. He was a predator and needed to feed on humans to live. Surely that hadn't changed. She eyed him warily and shook her head. "So... How do you feed then?"
no subject
This is coming from a man sat at a table, an array of PADDs spread over the surface. He looks up at Carolyn. "We're, unfortunately, trapped here for the meanwhile." He picks up one of them.
"It's suggested you make yourself comfortable."
no subject
Carolyn's eyebrows drew together and she shook her head, not even bothering to hide the fact that she was scowling at him. Who the hell was he to tell her what she should be doing? For all she knew he was the one who'd brought her there. Well, he had a thing or two to learn, that was for sure!
"Yeah, that's not going to happen," she muttered, turning away from him so she could look over the room again. It looked like a bar, which... Was admittedly a strange place to kidnap someone to, but whatever. It wasn't the most bizarre thing that had happened to her. Okay it was, but he didn't need to know that.
no subject
He concentrates on the PADD he picked up, tapping a few options, the device emitting a bleeping noise as he does. He seems completely unfazed by Carolyn's reaction.
"Until then," He looks up again. "Allow me to welcome you to the Federation Starship USS Enterprise. The year is 2367, and we are currently in Deck 10, Forward." He motions to his surroundings. "Please, feel free to confirm this however you want. I'm not going anywhere."
The SGC has files on Ancients. Of course it did, they're the Gate Builders. They also have files, no doubt, on encountered Ancients; Oma Desala, Morgan Le Fay, Merlin... Orlin... If Dr. Lam has seen any of these files, she will note the striking similarity this man bears to the Ancient from Velona... At least, before he descended to their plain the second time to assist with the Prior's Plague.
no subject
And she was finding the fact that he was sitting there tapping on his tablet or whatever it was HIGHLY annoying. Annoying and rude. But it didn't seem like he cared that's how he was coming off.
Carolyn shook her head, her lips pressing together. She wasn't even thinking of the Ancients or anything like that. She was still thinking this was some poorly planned out practical joke. An elaborate one, but a joke all the same.
"You're not making any sense at all."
no subject
He places the PADD onto the table, offering Carolyn his full attention for the first time since she showed up.
"You have been displaced in space and or time, whichever is applicable, to the year 2367. The being responsible is known as Q. He has full control of space, time, can breach dimensions and is..." A slightly irritated tone comes up. "Something of a trickster."
no subject
"And does he plan on sending us back or are we stuck here because I have stuff to do back home." Like making sure Mitchell stayed patched up and just in case Vala got up to something that she was there for medical support.
no subject
He leans back in his chair. "Unfortunately, Q seems to have full control over space and time. It seems... unlikely they will find a way to send us back. We're at Q's discretion."
And that is something that doesn't settle well with the Ancient. Going from one of the most powerful beings in existence to be at the whims of some other being. It kinda challenges your universal view a tad.
no subject
That was VERY problematic to her.
"So we're stuck here is what you're basically saying?" Her lips press together and she nods her head slowly. She's not happy and her expression is showing just how unhappy she really is. "Well that's just great." No, no it was so not great.
no subject
no subject
"How are you doing doc?"
no subject
Her forehead wrinkled and she stared at him for a couple of long silent seconds. "Uh, what are you doing here? And what do you mean by this not having a current end? That's just--- Tell me you're joking."
no subject
"We've encountered an alien with god like powers. He's pulled us into an alternate world, and no one has been able to persuade him that we've got homes to return to."
no subject
She shook her head, her eyebrows furrowing together. "Well, maybe I should talk to him. I've managed to handle a lot of stubborn personnel in my time with the SGC." She might be shooting him a pointed look. "Doesn't he understand that.. Well there's the Ori problem still and you all are dealing with the Wraiths. We can't stay here."
sorry I was away on holiday.
And look how quickly John shies away from talking about that, a psychiatrist would have a field day. "You can talk to him if you can find him, I haven't seen him once in six months, I've only seen his handy work." He grimaces.
"One of the people Qs brought aboard is a Wraith, his name is Todd. Try not to kill him okay? He's sort of a friendly." Depending on the day of the week.
it's all good!
Carolyn stared at him unbelieving. "Doctor Beckett's alive here?" She shook her head because that, that just wasn't even possible, not even with Gao'uld technology. She wasn't even sure the Ori could do anything like that. Her eyes narrowed a bit and she was moving a little closer to him, gaze sweeping over him. "Did you hit your head somehow?"
His last question though made her glare at him. "Why would I try and kill a Wraith? Do I look like I have a suicide wish?" Really though, she was the last person a Wraith ever had to worry about. She didn't like guns or violence which was a god thing since she was a doctor.
no subject
He gives her a funny look. "I don't make a habit of hallucinating dead people. You can see him for yourself soon and tell me if he is real." After living on Atlantis for years, he knows better than to rule anything out because he thinks he is right.
"Any doctor who comes out on our away team has had to face a Wraith at some point or another. Sorry, I forget we're kind of unique in arming our doctors so they can take care of themselves."
no subject
She reached up and rubs her forehead. This was all way more bizarre than the stuff she was use to dealing with the SGC and she had dealt with some seriously bizarre stuff. Like the multiple teams of SGC-1 when they had all been pulled to their reality through the Stargate. This though was a whole new level of bizarre.... BUT, Doctor Fraiser had been on one of those teams. "And you're certain that he'd from our reality?"
AND then she's glaring again. "I didn't say that I can't protect myself. You must have momentarily forgotten who my father is." She could shoot a gun and shoot it well enough, she just didn't like to. "I just haven't had to come up against Wraith."
no subject
When he hears the woman's voice, he turns away from the bar, where he'd just collected a milkshake. It's a matter of habit for him to look over anyone he hasn't met before, and it only takes a couple of moments to take in the pertinent details.
This time, Jonas frowns, blinks, and looks again.
The woman's dressed like a doctor, in a labcoat. Not in the Air Force uniform Doctor Frasier wears, but ... that ID pass she's wearing looks like it says SGC.
"I don't think this is the sort of joke you think it is."
no subject
Hearing a man's voice, she turned and was really about to lay into him because really? What other kind of joke could it be??? But then, she froze because she recognized him. It took her a moment to figure out from where, old medical files she'd been going over to familiarize herself with the going ons of the SGC.
Jonas Quinn.
Her forehead wrinkled in confusion because she just couldn't figure out why he of all people was there wherever they were.
"Uh." She continued to stare at him as she tried to jump start her brain. "Jonas Quinn?" Just to make sure because she didn't want to look like an idiot by making some mistake.
no subject
"Uh, yeah. But we ... haven't met."
The frown deepened for a moment before his face broke into a grin.
"I guess you must have read my file."
There were many people in the SGC who knew Jonas and who he was without Jonas necessarily knowing them. He may have had a near-perfect recall once he'd committed something to memory, but he hadn't, yet, met everyone in the base face to face.
He stepped forward.
"You are from the SGC, right?" he asked, gesturing towards the tag.
no subject
She nodded her head and hesitated for a moment. This was weird, he shouldn't have been there. Though she shouldn't either but there they were.
"I did, I read it shortly after I arrived at the SGC. General Landry and General O'Neill thought it best if I read everything." Truth was, she was sure O'Neill had suggested it so she wouldn't turn and walk out the door when she'd found out about her father being in charge of everything. Sneaky, that's what he'd been.
Extending her hand to him, she offered him a slight smile. "I'm Doctor Lam, uh, Carolyn Lam, I'm in charge of medical there now."
no subject
"I guess that's why I don't know you. When I came here from the SGC, he was Colonel O'Neill. But that was a year ago."
Of course, it wasn't as simple as that, in many cases. There were people here from different worlds and different times within the same world. Q seemed to have the ability to take people from any time or place. It would have been too simple for him to have taken someone else from Jonas' reality and Jonas' time, too.
Jonas stepped forward and took her hand with a warm smile.
"This might seem like a strange question, but uh, when is 'now'?"
no subject
She exhaled slowly, and shook her head. This was possibly the most bizarre thing she'd been apart of and she'd been apart of some really crazy things since joining the SGC. She was just glad that he wasn't asking about Doctor Fraiser, she really didn't want to be the one to tell him about her.
Carolyn laughed and let go of his hand after a moment. "Well it's not a question I'm normally asked but considering the circumstances? I'd be worried if you hadn't asked. It's 2006 where I come from. Colonel Carter, Teal'c and Doctor Jackson are all still part of SG-1... There's been a couple of additions but I don't think you'd know either of them."
no subject
"Wait up."
He held up a hand. "Did you just say Doctor Jackson? Because when I'm from, in 2002, he's kind of ..."
Well. Kind of dead, and because of something that was Jonas' fault, as thought Jonas didn't remind himself of that fact constantly. But only kind of dead, because he'd Ascended, or so the others thought. Or wanted to think.
"Well. Ascended."
