Sam actually lived during parts of the golden age of piracy. These people's teeth are far too well tended, they smell better, the rum is a lot less... dirty, and who in all the hells ever talked like /that?/

But ok. So the pirate outfit is actually better than the stupid indian ones. And there's rum. Rum makes so many things better. Sam is wandering down the halls here and there, quite steadily, despite the bottle of rum being two-thirds gone, with three parrots having adopted 'him', and a couple more perching on the ornithopter that rolls behind Sam.

Trever really has tried diplomacy, but he doesn't always get it. He understands the need for it. He just hasn't figured out how to do it just yet. But he's working on it. Being second in line to the throne requires a certain amount of diplomacy.

Sam can be diplomatic, for a very certain type of diplomacy. 'He's' an explorer, used to running into new cultures - not all of which were ever going to b friendly, regardless of approach. Sometimes, being ready for anything really is necessary.

"Cut out those bits, or make an example of someone so the others are more willing to talk. You get it. Not sure why more folks don't."

Trever was raised a McCallum. Their idea of diplomacy is leaving you alive.

"I think because people are taught that violence isn't the answer. That violence is bad because people get hurt or die. If you're busy making examples of others then nothing will get done and society will break apart." Trever said. "At least that's what I've gotten lectured about."

"Violence ain't the answer? Who in all'a the hells teaches that kind of garbage?" That's apparently not a lecture Sam has gotten.

"My teachers at school, my father's aides... folks like that." Trever's gotten the lecture a lot. But again, he does need to learn diplomacy.

"Huh, didn't get a lot of that. Maybe it's the times. Where... or when, are you from?"

[reincarnshaman]

"I'm from Eire, 2015. My da's king though so..." he shrugged, "What about you?"

"Been a long while since I was there. But, all over the place, 1819."

[reincarnshaman]

"That was a while ago... for my time at least." He tilted his head a little. "You know it as Eire?"

Sam shrugs. "Eirinn go Brach, yeah? Plenty of folks in my time were all fired up about the name. I mostly grew up hearing the place on the map as Iouernia... my Dad liked his Pythias... and I got used to calling a lot of places whatever the locals prefer it be called. Can't say as I consider myself owing allegiance to any country."

"I've never heard of Iouernia before. But everyone here calls Eire Ireland. It's rather frustrating." He laughed softly. "I on the other hand am land tied to Eire. I can't owe my allegiance to any other country. Not that I'd want to. But I can't."

"Same place. Iouernia was what the first Romans to document the place called Eire. Same way that the people who made the maps everyone read here called it Ireland, I suppose. Seeing as you're from there, and I could care less what's written on the maps, it's Eire, then. So you got at least one. I'm not big for countries and flags and allegiances. Bigger on being free to travel."

"You remind of my boss, Rhys. He's very big on wandering around and ignoring things like lines on the map," Trever said, "Of course he's been around long before a lot of the countries have been."

Sam grins. "Countries change, kings change, and when they do, the same country can be a lot different when you go back. Go to a place like Australia or Africa, and the lines England drew on the map got nothing to do with the local reality."

Trever gives her a bit of a blank look and then there's a mental snap of recognition. "Oh! That's right. England got around a bit more than it did in our world."

"Yeah, and from the records here, it looks like the England I know got around even more than the one in this history did."

[reincarnshaman]

"Did it really?" That's interesting.

[immutablysam]

"Yeah, says in the history documents on board this ship that America won their revolution, and the English church and Irish Catholics never reconciled."

There's someconfusion as Sam speaks about things he's not readily familiar with. "Catholics are...?" he asked.

Because whatever they are, they don't exist in his world. He'd know that one for sure.

"Christian religion, goes back a long ways. I ain't a follower, so the computer might have better files on that. An' one of the major fighting topics between England and Eire, where I come from. Not that they always need excuses."

He shook his head. "I don't know what that one is either."

However on the topic of England and Eire fighting. "We don't really have that problem. My mum's family convinced potential invaders that trying to take over Eire was a bad idea ages ago."

"Then it'd make sense you wouldn't have some of the issues other versions of your homeland've had, yeah."

"Also it's harder for other countries to invade farther away lands because the gods in those other lands are going to be stronger than the gods that are further away from their home."

[immutablysam]

"Huh, interesting take. Back home, whatever gods there are quit fighting for their lands a long time ago, if they ever did. Now they just let their followers fight amongst each other in their names. Granted, they do plenty of that."

"Admittedly some of the older gods have faded away. But those with worshipers are still strong. And then there are a few others that are just..." Trever blinked a bit at the memory of a god. "Strange."
