Alex nodded. "Sometimes, you have to be willing to put yourself out there, naked to the world, and vulnerable to the one you care about." He looked at her. "Sometimes, you just have to say, 'I love you.', no matter the consequences. Because it's worth it."

It was worth it.

She can't much contain her blush anymore.

"Very good."

The hour has passed rather swiftly, which is just as well so far as Kate's concerned. She's afraid much more time in front of her class like this, they'll be whistling and jeering in no time.

"That's all for today, class. I want you to think about how your time on the Entperprise has altered your journey, and what it might mean for you when you return home. Next class we'll go over some of what you've written."

As the room starts to disperse, Kate moves among the desks picking up discarded papers and writing tools, almost too shy to glance over to where Alex has been sitting to see if he's still there or not.

When the others left, he cleaned up, put his things away, and drew out a small and intricately replicated carving of a rose, which he placed before him, then waited for her to notice.

He was nervous, and he was worried, and he loved her. He knew it, with every ounce of himself.

She knows he's still there even before she turns to face his desk, and she's not sure if that makes her more thrilled or nervous.

When she finally plucks up the moxie to face him, her eyes land first on the rose.

And then she smiles, as slow as molasses and just as sweet.

"Most students bring apples."

Could be she's teasing him.

That smile, just like the day he met her, made his heart pound and his spirit soar, and he nodded. "Have I told you how much I love your smile?"

The words came out quick-like, and he grinned as he slid out a small picture to hand to her, of her in her cat-costume. "I wanted to show you this. I found it, ah, from the day Q was making things wonky, then."

She blushes like someone's just lit a fire in her cheeks, going red all at once, and a startled little laugh tumbles free.

She looks down, tucking her hair behind her ear.

"Even now that we know we was under some sorta spell last time?"

That had been — well, it had been awkward to discover. All of a sudden them frantic passions disappeared, and she wasn't sure what had been real and what hadn't from the days they spent together.

She looks up when he holds the picture out to her, taking it gingerly and laughing anew. She covers her mouth with her free hand.

"Good gracious, me! Oh, that's terrible. I didn't know nobody was takin' pictures. Oh, I could die!"

Heels, ears, whip and all.

"Even now, because, well, it may have been a spell, back then, but over these last few months, mostly not wanting to bother you, I realized something."

He smiled, shy, worried she would laugh, or be mad, but, plunged on. "It's not a spell for me anymore, Kate, I like you, a lot. You make me laugh, relax, feel complicated, bouncy, tender, and passionate, all at once. And there's no one else I would rather be with." He nodded to her.

Alex grinned at her. "I thought, well, it looked god on you."
