"But I've been to tons of them. I even built an Inn in one."
no subject
Suddenly, pretty boy was more than just a pretty face.
"I'm sorry, but you're gonna have to define 'tons of them' for me," she said, feeling an elated explosion of victory when she managed to locate her pencil.
Already, she was flipping to a blank page.
no subject
Despite seeming a bit on the dippy side, he did have some interesting things about him.
"Are we talking about natural nodes or places that have been turned into them by various means, like this one?"
no subject
Fatima made a quick note that there was more than one kind of node, before glancing up at him again. "Why don't you give me a count for both?" she said, little hesitant.
The multiverse suddenly felt even bigger than before. How was that even possible?
no subject
no subject
Fatima didn't even notice.
Fifteen or sixteen different multiverse nodes. It was unimaginable. That so many could exist, she could believe, stretching out her imagination as far as it would go. But having to live through fifteen or sixteen different ones?
...that was a madness that even a Malkavian wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole.
After a moment or two, Fatima remembered to blink again. She'd forgotten the pencil though. Suddenly, she needed to save face, to resume her calm, cool, collected demeanor. She fished out with her brain and let loose the first retort she could come up with.
"You should be teaching this class."
no subject
no subject
And that whole thing was hardly relevant. Just an illustration, really.
Something to ease people into the idea of the multiverse.
Pretty boy needed no such easing.
no subject
He gives her a sheepish shrug.
no subject
"I have about a million questions," she told him.
A pause.
"Although I guess manners are a thing and I should probably start with your name."
no subject
"Sure. I'd be happy to answer what questions you've got if you answer mine," he said, eyes sparkling in amusement. "I'm Alec. And you're Fatima."
no subject
Sarcasm was a privilege that she abused. It was hard to have a reputation here. Sometimes, it was hard to even be noticed. While she could happily live with the calm, with the peace and quiet after Zelien...there was something to be said for...making noise.
"Nice to meet you, Alec."
no subject
"Nice to meet you."
Well, there are ways to make noise.
no subject
Which was fine. She was getting better and better at talking about it.
At thinking about it.
At dreaming about it.
no subject
Because that's curious.
no subject
She turned to glance back at her drawing. "Deans 1, 3, and 4 didn't do anything to me. They were pretty great guys. I mean, as far as porn fanatics go. But asshole there," she gestured to the second Dean stick figure, "he was a different story. Tried to shoot me. Killed my boyfriend. Almost set me on fire. The relationship was...complicated."
Not just 'Facebook complicated.'
no subject
Before moving on to what she said. "There are a great deal of variations within different individuals. It sounds like you got some that were fairly similar and then one further removed from the ones you would consider 'normal' Dean."
no subject
And as for the mention of Sam...well. She'd just let it slide. For the time being, anyway.
(But no one messed with her boyfriend. Even if he wasn't technically her boyfriend any more, or whatever.)
"That was sort of the basis of the discussion I was going to lead," she said.
no subject
She should be happy.
"That's a good idea! Because alternate versions of people you know who suddenly are acting all evil or good or whatever is probably one of the more confusing things that happen to people."
no subject
Not that Fatima could speak from much personal experience, beyond Dean. It seemed that the multiverse had little interest in her corner, in her world. She'd been separated from any familiar faces from home for well over two years.
Sometimes, she wondered if she even wanted to go back.
That hadn't been the plan, anyway. No. She was going to go with Sam.
no subject
no subject
That was three questions...
no subject
Because his experiences with the multiverse are quite a bit different than a lot of other people's. At least people's on this ship. It didn't help that his history tended to be somewhat multiple choice or choose whatever boxes applies. And then there were other things that he just couldn't tell people.
"Right. So... I guess I should start at the beginning... do you want the tl:dr version or the sort of summary version?"
no subject
Context helped, however.
"Which ever version you think will be the most beneficial," she said.
no subject
"There are these... parasites out there that attach themselves to worlds... seeking out zygist moments in a world's history. Moments when everything changes, completely upsetting the balance. Or they seek out individuals that changers. Powerful individuals. Movers and shakers. Like... Um... well... people like Dean and Sam, for instance. And what these parasites do is they drain the world of its ... energy... it's whatever it is that makes it unique and use it to fuel their own ... wants and move on to another world. And their power is such that they can insinuate themselves into a world so well that even though an outsider would say 'that's not right, that can't exist' the people within the world can't see it. To them that person has always been there."
He hesitated. "Like Sam and Dean's younger sister... um... Rowena."
