"I can only speak from my experiences," Fatima said, shaking her head. "I don't claim to be an expert in the multiverse. I'm just offering this class as a primer for newbies, based on what I know."

It was a pitiful attempt to try to be useful, really. And she knew it. But she'd take it.

Better than being bored.

"Our experiences are what make us who we are. No need to be ashamed of that." Minoru grinned. "It's not often I find people who travel between worlds like this, or even understand that it happens. I'm glad you are teaching about it!"

Fatima considered pointing out that she wasn't exactly teaching about it. In the last few hours, all things considered, she'd been soundly schooled. But no point to that. Other than making herself feel like crap.

Anyway, the affirmation sounded just like something Auntie Diana would say. She couldn't help but smile. Just a little bit.

"I'd suggest looking up a guy named Alec," she said. "He's been through over a dozen of these things. I suspect he knows more than I ever will."

Minoru meant it, wholeheartedly.

"I will." He smiled. "But I'd love to hear more about your experiences too, if that's okay. Were you brought to another world against your will, or did you just know of people who had been?"

She frowned a little. Talking about COMPASS was still uncomfortable. Which probably was one of the reasons why Dean was an easier target. But she needed to take her own advice to Beverly, get it out in any way she could.

The basics, at least, were simple enough.

"I was taken by an organization called COMPASS," she said, keeping it matter-of-fact and businesslike. "They were conducting experiments in fear and drawing in test subjects from different corners of the multiverse."

Minoru listened intently. Even the vaguest details set the stage.

"Fear would be a natural reaction to being moved from one dimension to another if you weren't prepared for it." And obviously, she hadn't been. It was against her will, after all. "What were they trying to find out?"

"The kidnapping...wasn't the experiment," she said. "That was just their way of obtaining subjects. After we were in their custody they...did things to us."

She shook her head, sighing softly. "I'd better not get into it."

Minoru got up, and closed the distance between them respectfully. He put a hand on her shoulder, which hopefully brought with it some security.

"It's okay. You're away from that now." He could almost hear his mother's grief in her plight. For his mother, it was the original world that was the bad place. Ending up in a new dimension was the best thing that could have ever happened - for everyone. "Don't let something so terrible cloud the opportunity of making the most of this part of your multiverse."

Fatima didn't like physical contact. She'd gotten better at it since Zelien. Enough that she didn't immediately kick the guy in the groin.

But she still stiffened, all her muscles going tense.

"Uh...thanks."

He got the hint when he felt her muscles tense, and removed said hand.

"It'll take time, but if you want to talk about it..." He let her know that he was here, for what it might be worth. If she liked to release her frustrations physically, he made a good workout or sparring partner too, and had no problems taking a punch.

She relaxed visibly when he removed his hand. It was nothing personal. In fact, Fatima was only barely aware of the fact that she did that kind of thing. It was just instinct.

Instinct and family history.

"I'll be okay," she said. "I made it this far. I'm tougher than I look."

Minoru nodded. There was no disagreement in her abilities. He'd seen his fair share of people subjected to what others would call torture and the havoc it plays on their heart. He internalized from an early age what the horrors of war had done to his mother.

"Being okay isn't always about being tough." he added. "If you need something, I'll be around."

So very Auntie Diana.

But she shook her head, forcing a smile, even. The more people questioned her veneer, the more she tended to stick to it. She could be exceedingly stubborn when she set her mind to it.

And often even when she didn't.

"Thanks, I appreciate it. But really, I'm okay. I made it out."

Minoru nodded, smiling. "Have fun teaching your class! I should probably figure out where my own is."

He gave a friendly salute before heading out the door.
