ten_fwd | [Sickbay]: Round Twelve Scans and Vaccines

Although the alternate timeline's Dr. Crusher has done outstanding work helping to combat the virus that turned so many of the ship's passengers into children earlier in the month, it's still Dr. Julian Bashir acting as the interim CMO, with all the duties and responsibilities that entails.

At least now there's only the number of children there should be, with the medical and scientific staff having succeeded in returning all Q's victims to their correct age.

For those entering for the first time, no doubt you've been escorted here by the security team. You may be surprised to see that it's a fairly ordinary-looking hospital. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you might see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones. As for the staff, they're all well-groomed and friendly — even the more unusual aliens.

There's nothing to worry about, the doctors just want to make sure you aren't carrying any viruses or are vulnerable to catching new diseases. Once you've been checked over — a quick scan from a tricorder and any necessary vaccines — you'll be free to go. Lollipops are optional.

"All right, step on in," one of them calls out as you enter. "Don't be afraid. It's just a scan and a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

If you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. Julian Bashir is acting as head of the medical staff for the time being, so if anyone needs to thread fallout from the kidplot or ask him questions, he will have a toplevel you can tag. For everyone else getting standard checkups, tag in specifying which doctor you would prefer in the subject line of your tag, otherwise one will leap on you as they are available. Sometimes, a distracted patient is a good patient. "Be my guest," he says, handing it over for a moment, and while Kale has his focus on that he puts the hypospray against the humans neck, pushing the trigger and injecting him with the vaccine.

...huh. All done already? He's used to there being more hassle than this.

Meanwhile Kale starts talking to the tricorder as he turns it around in his hands, holding it up to eye level, listening to it.

"What are you made of... ah... okay. That's interesting... and that's your programming... that is really different, I wouldn't have done that. Huh... your circuit boards are definitely a lot smaller ... I'll need finer tools to do those... how are you powered now... I wonder if I could..."

He's not opened the tricorder to see its guts, but he's talking to it and apparently picking up information about it that he could only get if he had opened it.

Suddenly it starts beeping and he brightens. "Hah! How about that! That was much easier than I thought it would be."

Now that's curious. At first, Guide started to wonder if there might be something wrong with the man's brain that the tricorder hadn't picked up on. Talking with a soulless machine?

But when the device suddenly beeps, without Kale having so much as touched the controls, the Wraith's interest is most definitely caught.

"How did you do that?"

Grinning he shows Guide the tricorder. It now insists that the Wraith is a human.

"I'm a technomage. I can 'read' and 'talk' to technology and in some cases get it to do what I want," he said.

"Impressive. And, useful, no doubt." Also, information that is going into the file, oh yes.

"However, if you do not put this back the way it was, then we have a problem."

The grin turns into pure - not quite evil and not quite mischief - but the sort of grin who knows EXACTLY what he can do with his ability and has used it as well.

"Oh yes. Very useful."

He taps the tricorder and it resets.

That grin makes Guide reconsider entering this information into Kale's file. Perhaps he doesn't need to let the ship's staff know about it, just yet. Perhaps it is knowledge that could be useful, later on. Potential resources doesn't have to be made public knowledge, and is isn't like he's not keeping several secrets of his own.

"I believe you."

After getting the tricorder back he looks it over, finding that everything at least seems to be in working order.

"And so, with that, I can inform you that your time in quarantine is over."

Kale would definitely appreciate it. What they don't know they can't tell him not to do it and it'll let him try to slip into the systems that much easier because they won't what might be causing it.

He starts to get off the bed but then hesitates. "Um. There probably is one more thing to put in my medical records since it has landed me in the hospital a couple of times."

"Oh?" Interesting. The scan showed nothing. Though that only makes it more interesting.

Putting the tricorder down, he turns his full attention back to Kale. "Do tell."

It's part of the unusual things that were picked up in the scan, like Trever had.

He held up a gloved hand.

"I'm psychometric. If I touch things with my bare hands I can get visions of what happened with that object, where it was located and the emotional feelings of whomever was using it. I also end up with a little bit of their personality in my head briefly," he said touching the side of his head.

"If I come in contact with something that belongs to a person with a lot of power... usually really old and magical beings... though I don't know what that would be here... the fragment of their personality will try to take over mine and the few times that's happened I ended up in a coma out of self preservation."

"As for old, I would be one. Though hardly magical." Since coming here, he's finally come to terms with such things like magic existing, something he would have only dismissed as superstition before. And he is telling the truth; he's old by anyone's standard, with more than ten-thousand years behind him.

"If this happens, is there anything we need to know or can do?"

There's a brief wary look on Kale's face. He's not sure how old the guy is but he has a feeling that as alien looking as he is, he'll knock Kale for a serious loop.

"Are there any telepaths on the ship?"

There's a brief grin, flashing the points of sharp teeth. "Again, I would be one." This he makes no secret about, even if he doesn't advertise it either, especially since his abilities are limited. "But there are others, yes, and in comparison I am not someone you need to be concerned about."

If he used his powers on something that seriously belonged to Guide he'd probably be thinking he was the Wraith for a little while.

"They'll need to be strong enough to wipe out the over riding personality. The first time it happened a family friend brought me out of it and he left markers in my mind to help guide others just in case he wasn't around to do it again."

Then.

"Nice teeth."

The compliment goes by unacknowledged. Instead Guide focuses on the topic at hand. "I am unsure if we have others on staff. If not, I would be yours best bet." Limited telepathic abilities are one thing, the actual strength of his mind another.

"In either case, I will make note of it."

"Hopefully it won't come to that," Kale said. "But thank you."

He inclines his head briefly in response.

"If that is all?"

"Yeah. I think so. Thank you, again," Kale said before giving the tricorder a very longing glance. For a moment it looks like he's going to swipe it but restrains himself.
