On Valentine's Day, one can enter a lounge on a spaceship docked outside a beautiful blue jewel of a planet (which can clearly be seen out the windows), and see that it's been made over with candles and linen tablecloths and red rose centrepieces. It's not anything as grand as Q would do. Amy is using the romance of the room: the windows looking out on Pacifica, soft lighting, and like last year she's even managed to find a trio to play music in one corner of the room: flute, cello, and violin.

Walking in, there's a sign:

♥    BLIND DATING TONIGHT, 19:00*    ♥
Party to follow at 23:00*!

A ginger beauty in a red dress is standing by with a sheet of those name tags you stick on your shirt that say HELLO MY NAME IS ______ and a clipboard of seat assignments. Not all the tables are taken (the woman in charge, Guinan, insisted the room stay open for other patrons), so those meant for the blind dates have numbers tucked in the centrepieces. Amy's taken mostly tables around the outside of the room, where there is the best view of space and a little privacy.

Table 1 - Luna Lovegood & Noriko Ashida
Table 2 - Ed & Alex Rogan
Table 3 - Kale McCallum & The (10th) Doctor
Table 4 - Trever McCallum & Ishka
Table 5 - Olan'atar & T'Pol
Table 6 - General Chang & Aeryn Sun
Table 7 - Marion Scotts & Thor Odinson
Table 8 - The (12th) Doctor & Aidan Nichols
Table 9 - Islington & Merlin
Table 10 - Deanna Troi & DJ
Table 11 - Kristen Kringle & Booker DeWitt
Table 12 - Jacqueline "Jackal" Egret & Dimo
Table 13 - Bob Fraser & Cridhe
Table 14 - Grainne O'Brian & Harry Dresden
Table 15 - Thea Queen & Kitt

If your name is on her list, you'll get a name tag and a little card with your table number on it. "Here you go. The bar's open while you wait, I bribed Guinan t' have out the real stuff, so you can tell her I sent you. No gettin' carried away, though. And no funny business, you treat your date with respect or I'll have you by the ear before night's out. I'll be 'round if you need anything."

Once everyone's been checked off her list, she's going to settle at the bar and have a drink. Match-making's hard business, but each time she does it she gets a little sense of satisfaction. Once the dates are over for the evening, she's looking forward to kicking off her heels and turning this place into a dance party.

* That's 7PM and 11PM respectively!

Backdated to after Danny is released from quarantine but before Grace arrives.

Danny being brought here was both a blessing and a curse in Steve's mind.

The blessing was purely selfish in that Steve felt better having his partner here with him. It wasn't that he wished Danny to be here, rather he wished they were both back in Hawaii, but he wasn't completely upset that Danny was here now with him either. Yeah, he was a selfish bastard and he hated himself for it, but he couldn’t deny the relief he felt to no longer being here alone. The gnawing ache of missing his home and ohana had been a bit of a surprise, but then he’d realized he’d never had a family to go home to before.

And there’s where lied the curse. Danny not only had Five-O, he also had Grace and in some extent Rachel. After Danny had travelled half way across the world to be with his daughter, he couldn’t imagine what the other man must be feeling now being so completely separated from her.

After Danny had been released from quarantine, Steve took him for a walk around the ship. Showing his partner where everything was and how to use the futuristic technology. It served more than the obvious purpose, it was a way for Steve to try to assess how Danny was doing.

It was a lot to take in - one moment being in Hawaii carrying on with every day life and the next moment having been kidnapped by an powerful yet immature alien and dumped in the future, on a space ship, possibly in a different dimension, all instantaneously, with no way of returning home for the sole purpose of that said alien to annoy a certain captain of a starship – neither of which Steve had met yet.

Yeah. It was a bit much. Steve was still trying to fully wrap his mind around it all.

The side-glances in Danny’s direction though weren’t telling him enough. When they reached the Arboretum and found an area they pretty much had to themselves, Steve decided just to come right out and ask.

“So uh, Danno, how are you adjusting to all this?”

Anywhere that played host to an assortment of professionals, especially those that worked in law enforcement, could never be empty, especially somewhere like the Palace. It, at times, felt as if you couldn't turn around without bumping into an officer or law clerk bustling down the halls at a steady clip or hanging around in groups of twos or threes gossiping. There was always some sort of movement happening, conversations spilling from open doorways or spiking as people came and went. Hell, even if not a single person opened their mouths while they went from Point A to Point B the place would be filled with the quiet shush-shush of fabric, the squeak of leather against marble, or the tac-tac-tac of high heels.

To Danny, though, without Chin Ho's quiet competence taking up space, engaging in his daily communion with the tech table, the Palace felt empty. It also felt a little eerie to walk into the office and not be greeted by a cheery 'Good morning' or some gentle teasing about Danny's malasada habit of which he knows the Hawaiian shared the guilty pleasure of. But empty and eerie was far more preferable than dead and gone; they’d been lucky to retrieve Chin from Hawala alive. So damn lucky.

But speaking of empty and eerie, the late O’ahu sun was casting lazy shadows across the floor indicating that it was long passed time for good little detectives to call it for the day and head home. Good thing that all that was left, now, was the paperwork of which Danny had accepted the lion’s share because he knew how scatterbrained a person got when a family member was laid up. Naturally, he shooed Kono out the door early every day and edited her backlog with a deft eye and, sometimes, creative notations without a second thought. Steve usually foisted half of his on him anyway so it wasn’t that much more work and he was glad to do it even if he ended up being the last to leave.

With the last /t/ crossed and /i/ dotted, Danny slid the packet of completed paperwork into a folder and walked it across to Steve’s office where he left it open in the middle of the desk. He hesitated only a moment before searching one of the drawers for a post-it to write his partner a stern note telling him to sign off on them and send them to be processed instead of leaving them to languish on the sideboard or in a drawer, ‘No really, Steven, sign them!’

Task finished, Danny turned to make his way out, to head home, only to step into what his brain processed as the Twilight Zone.

Between one breath and the next he somehow went from slightly chilled interior office air to something that looked like it came out of architect’s futuristic wet dream, all muted colors, bright lighting, and geometric shapes.

“What the hell?”

Although the alternate timeline's Dr. Crusher has done outstanding work helping to combat the virus that turned so many of the ship's passengers into children earlier in the month, it's still Dr. Julian Bashir acting as the interim CMO, with all the duties and responsibilities that entails.

At least now there's only the number of children there should be, with the medical and scientific staff having succeeded in returning all Q's victims to their correct age.

For those entering for the first time, no doubt you've been escorted here by the security team. You may be surprised to see that it's a fairly ordinary-looking hospital. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you might see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones. As for the staff, they're all well-groomed and friendly — even the more unusual aliens.

There's nothing to worry about, the doctors just want to make sure you aren't carrying any viruses or are vulnerable to catching new diseases. Once you've been checked over — a quick scan from a tricorder and any necessary vaccines — you'll be free to go. Lollipops are optional.

"All right, step on in," one of them calls out as you enter. "Don't be afraid. It's just a scan and a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

[ooc: Sickbay is, as always, OTA and open for backtagging! For new characters: tagging isn't mandatory but IC going to sickbay is. If you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. Julian Bashir is acting as head of the medical staff for the time being, so if anyone needs to thread fallout from the kidplot or ask him questions, he will have a toplevel you can tag. For everyone else getting standard checkups, tag in specifying which doctor you would prefer in the subject line of your tag, otherwise one will leap on you as they are available. There is a post up in the OOC comm with more details about Sickbay and which doctors are on deck this month, if you have any questions.]
