[Sickbay]: Round Twelve Scans and Vaccines

Although the alternate timeline's Dr. Crusher has done outstanding work helping to combat the virus that turned so many of the ship's passengers into children earlier in the month, it's still Dr. Julian Bashir acting as the interim CMO, with all the duties and responsibilities that entails.

At least now there's only the number of children there should be, with the medical and scientific staff having succeeded in returning all Q's victims to their correct age.

For those entering for the first time, no doubt you've been escorted here by the security team. You may be surprised to see that it's a fairly ordinary-looking hospital. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you might see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones. As for the staff, they're all well-groomed and friendly — even the more unusual aliens.

There's nothing to worry about, the doctors just want to make sure you aren't carrying any viruses or are vulnerable to catching new diseases. Once you've been checked over — a quick scan from a tricorder and any necessary vaccines — you'll be free to go. Lollipops are optional.

"All right, step on in," one of them calls out as you enter. "Don't be afraid. It's just a scan and a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

[ooc: Sickbay is, as always, OTA and open for backtagging! For new characters: tagging isn't mandatory but IC going to sickbay is. If you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. Julian Bashir is acting as head of the medical staff for the time being, so if anyone needs to thread fallout from the kidplot or ask him questions, he will have a toplevel you can tag. For everyone else getting standard checkups, tag in specifying which doctor you would prefer in the subject line of your tag, otherwise one will leap on you as they are available. There is a post up in the OOC comm with more details about Sickbay and which doctors are on deck this month, if you have any questions.]

"Hm?" And he looks down at the dictaphone and smiles slightly. Mostly because it's technology he rememebrs. "Oh, no. Of course not. There probably won't be much for me to say, though."

He folds out the tricorder, detatching the hand scanner to begin his survey.

"Are you aware of any illnesses or diseases, past or present, that may cause an issue?"
dictaphonic: (Head-tilt)

"That's all right. I'd...feel better, having a recording." He gives an embarrassed smile and then presses the button to start the dictaphone recording. "Will Arrowsmith, in sickbay aboard the USS Enterprise with Dr. Beckett." He adds the date, but then he turns his attention back to the doctor, watching the scanner with interest. "Hm? Oh! No, nothing significant. Um...what exactly are you scanning for with that?"

"I wouldn't worry too much. It takes a profile of your current medical state so we have a baseline to compare with, should you need treatment whilst here." He taps a few controls on the Tricorder. "It's also able to detect things you might not be aware you have."
dictaphonic: (Yelp)

[personal profile] dictaphonic 2015-07-03 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
"That makes sense." He fidgets. "Um. Is there a name for it? F-for my record, I mean." At that last statement, though, he gives the doctor a nervous look. "I-it isn't detecting anything like that...is it?"

"Just a medical record." Carson remarks, focusing on the Tricorder, before looking up at that last bit. "Detecting anything like what?"
dictaphonic: (Frightened)

[personal profile] dictaphonic 2015-07-10 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
He makes a face, realising he was unclear. "I meant the device, actually. I've never seen anything like it! What's it called?"

But when the doctor looks up, Will looks down at the Tricorder with concern. "Is it detecting anything I'm not aware I have?" he asks worriedly. "Like alien diseases, I suppose. Or diseases that haven't been discovered in my own time, or. Well. All manner of things. A-anything out of the ordinary?" He watches Dr Beckett intently as he waits for an answer.

Anything he should know about? :)

[personal profile] atadiscoverer 2015-07-12 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah! It's a Tricorder. There's a few variants, but this one specialises in medical functions. It's... a pretty powerful scanning device."

He looks back down at the display, tapping away at the controls a bit, before looking up. "Nothing yet, nearly done."
dictaphonic: (Nervous)

Nope! Will's normal

[personal profile] dictaphonic 2015-07-13 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
He nods at the information. "A Tricorder, so perhaps three functions. Or versions. Interesting. Still, it's completely noninvasive! That's impressive.

"W-well, that's better than bad news, I suppose..." He laughs awkwardly, watching the display, too, even if from his angle he can't properly see what's on it.

And there's a smile, there. "I take it you're interested in things like this?" He asks, finishing off his scans before re-attaching the hand-scanner part to the main unit of the tricorder.

"And we're all done. You'll be pleased to know, Mr. Arrowsmith, that you have a clean bill of health."
dictaphonic: (Explaining)

[personal profile] dictaphonic 2015-07-13 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Will smiles back. "Oh yes! Analyzing scientific inventions in the heart of my job, in fact."

And at that, he sighs in relief. "Good. That's what I was hoping you would say." After a second's pause, he adds: "Um, thank you, Dr. Beckett."

"My pleasure, but one last thing." He picks up the hypo. "I need to give you this inocculation. It'll screen you against most known illnesses."
dictaphonic: (Frightened)

[personal profile] dictaphonic 2015-07-15 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh." His expression falters. "Yes, you mentioned that..." With a sigh, he offers his arm. He can understand why such a thing would be necessary--and, of course, beneficial as well.

And Carson moves forward, pressing the business end of the hypospray to Will's arm. He doesn't even warn for pain... because there likely won't be any. Just a light hiss noise as the medication is administered subdermally.

"There we go. All done."
dictaphonic: (Interested)

[personal profile] dictaphonic 2015-07-17 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Will blinks when Carson says it's done. "Really? I...didn't even feel that. Wow." He smiles. "Well, thank you again! Um, does this mean I'm no longer under quarantine?"
atadiscoverer: (computer)

[personal profile] atadiscoverer 2015-07-22 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
"Now I finally can tell the truth when I say 'this won't hurt a bit'." Carson adds, lightly. "The hypospray administers medication subdermally, even through clothing, if it needs to. All the medicines and vaccines are developed for this to be easily absorbed by the skin to the bloodstream."

He adds that in because Will showed interest in the technology. He aims to please.

Glancing down at his PADD, making a few notes, he nods. "Aye, you're free to go. Try not to get too excited, wouldn't want to see you back in here." Again, his tone is light, joking.
dictaphonic: (Eager)

[personal profile] dictaphonic 2015-07-23 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"That must be very useful," Will agrees, glad for the unasked-for explanation to satisfy his curiosity. At Carson's last warning, he looks a bit sheepish, though. "I'll, ah. Be careful."

With a smile, he then gets up to head out of the sickbay. After all, there seem to have been a startling number of new arrivals, and he doesn't want to keep the doctor from his work.
