[Sickbay]: Round Twelve Scans and Vaccines

Although the alternate timeline's Dr. Crusher has done outstanding work helping to combat the virus that turned so many of the ship's passengers into children earlier in the month, it's still Dr. Julian Bashir acting as the interim CMO, with all the duties and responsibilities that entails.

At least now there's only the number of children there should be, with the medical and scientific staff having succeeded in returning all Q's victims to their correct age.

For those entering for the first time, no doubt you've been escorted here by the security team. You may be surprised to see that it's a fairly ordinary-looking hospital. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you might see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones. As for the staff, they're all well-groomed and friendly — even the more unusual aliens.

There's nothing to worry about, the doctors just want to make sure you aren't carrying any viruses or are vulnerable to catching new diseases. Once you've been checked over — a quick scan from a tricorder and any necessary vaccines — you'll be free to go. Lollipops are optional.

"All right, step on in," one of them calls out as you enter. "Don't be afraid. It's just a scan and a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

[ooc: Sickbay is, as always, OTA and open for backtagging! For new characters: tagging isn't mandatory but IC going to sickbay is. If you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. Julian Bashir is acting as head of the medical staff for the time being, so if anyone needs to thread fallout from the kidplot or ask him questions, he will have a toplevel you can tag. For everyone else getting standard checkups, tag in specifying which doctor you would prefer in the subject line of your tag, otherwise one will leap on you as they are available. There is a post up in the OOC comm with more details about Sickbay and which doctors are on deck this month, if you have any questions.]

All valid reasons to let himself be scanned and shot up with whatever miracle cure-all was inside that weird looking injector, but still Danny was mistrustful. He didn't know enough about medicine to argue details and medications and he would probably get himself thrown into what passed for quarantine around this place for pressing the point.

He wanted to push, though.

"The fact that some have already been exposed to whatever I could potentially be carrying seems to make it all seem a little too late, don't you think?"

"Everyone you've been in contact with has been through this process." Carson points out. "And anything unknown is why this is a requirement, so we can mitigate any potential contagions visitors may have brought on board."

And he folds his arms. "Besides, anything too contageous and the internal sensors would have picked it up."

"Shouldn't this process, then, be voluntary rather than mandatory since, as you just indicated, everyone else on board has already been inoculated so wouldn't catch whatever potential contagion I may or may not have?"

Okay, so he was being difficult but not for the sake of being difficult. He really wanted to know the thought process here because it was sounded less like 'It can help you' and more like 'It's for your own good'.

"I'd like to get out of here at some point but it's all very peer pressure-ish, doc."

"Unfortunately, I don't have any control over ship's process. I just do what I'm told to do." He keeps his voice level, but it's clear he's not impressed, Daniel. "It's the same as going to a foreign country where you get polio and typhoid immunisations. Just because everyone around you may be clean doesn't mean something else might infect you."

Mindful of the implied consequences of non-compliance, and having no desire to spend any time in some kind of medical lock down, Danny offered an arm up after shrugging with exaggerated motion.

"I don't like to travel," He said plainly, a smile stretching his lips wide. "And all my shots were up to date back in the good year twenty-thirteen."

"And I'm inclined to believe you, however, I don't think your shots include Andorian stomach viruses, or Vulcan measles." Tapping a finger against the tricorder held against his bicep by the folded arms. "At least, they weren't when I last checked in 2007."

And then the Tricorder gets folded out, and the hand scanner detached.

"Thank you for your co-operation." He replies, in a very dry tone.

"I have no idea what those things are and I've got a feeling that I don't want to know," He replied quickly. Just the sound of those things sounded nasty and left Danny with an ignited need to vacate the sickbay as quickly as humanly possible.

He was definitely taking that cure-all and might even thank Doctor Beckett for offering it.

"Oh-seven, huh?" Which shouldn't have thrown him as much as it did since he knew that things -- that time was a little wonky on this ship. Still, there were six years between their respective home points.

Danny switched gears, going quiet and contemplative for a moment as he studied Beckett. He already figured that his doctor was just another pawn in whatever game this Q guy was playing but it was kind of arresting to realize just how out of time some people could be thanks to the capricious nature of a bored 'super being'.

He tilted his head to the side and asked, "You get zapped form a small town practice in between patients or something?"

The Tricorder beeps away happily, the red light of the hand scanner flashing over Danny as Carson takes his readings, before looking up at that last question.

"No, although sometimes I wish I had been." He remarks, before finishing his scan, folding the Tricorder away; the whole process took about five minutes. "I was on the lost city of Atlantis."
detwilliams: (okay no)

Danny watched the lights for a span of seconds before he focused on following the small, round bulb that Beckett held aloft, moving it slowly in the air in front of him, back and forth. The doctor had said it was supposed to scan him, right? It just didn't look like it could do that as tiny as it was. But he supposed that's just how technology went. Smaller was better and often times faster.

Then again, not everything in this place was miniscule.

"Atlantis? Like the one those researchers supposedly found out in Spain somewhere?" He doubted it since not only did he not believe it actually existed but also because if Doctor Beckett had been on it, living in it, then he wasn't form the same Earth Danny was. And wasn't that a mind-trip.

"Sort of." Carson replies. "Only this one is in another galaxy. It's... a wee bit complicated."

He sets the Tricorder down. "Okay, everything checks out. I did notice some ACL damage, and that can be easily fixed." He'd understand, otherwise. And then, he takes up the Hypospray. "Could you bare your neck, please?"
