[Sickbay]: Round Twelve Scans and Vaccines

Although the alternate timeline's Dr. Crusher has done outstanding work helping to combat the virus that turned so many of the ship's passengers into children earlier in the month, it's still Dr. Julian Bashir acting as the interim CMO, with all the duties and responsibilities that entails.

At least now there's only the number of children there should be, with the medical and scientific staff having succeeded in returning all Q's victims to their correct age.

For those entering for the first time, no doubt you've been escorted here by the security team. You may be surprised to see that it's a fairly ordinary-looking hospital. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you might see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones. As for the staff, they're all well-groomed and friendly — even the more unusual aliens.

There's nothing to worry about, the doctors just want to make sure you aren't carrying any viruses or are vulnerable to catching new diseases. Once you've been checked over — a quick scan from a tricorder and any necessary vaccines — you'll be free to go. Lollipops are optional.

"All right, step on in," one of them calls out as you enter. "Don't be afraid. It's just a scan and a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

[ooc: Sickbay is, as always, OTA and open for backtagging! For new characters: tagging isn't mandatory but IC going to sickbay is. If you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. Julian Bashir is acting as head of the medical staff for the time being, so if anyone needs to thread fallout from the kidplot or ask him questions, he will have a toplevel you can tag. For everyone else getting standard checkups, tag in specifying which doctor you would prefer in the subject line of your tag, otherwise one will leap on you as they are available. There is a post up in the OOC comm with more details about Sickbay and which doctors are on deck this month, if you have any questions.]

"I stand corrected." That's fine, he prefers that too. And his memory is also excellent, and he doesn't recall this man, so it would stand to follow that he's from further on than Julian is.

"51658.4," Julian responds, wondering what exactly that meant to him.

And oh, does he know. He might have been at the Academy at the time, but his Captain had been there, on the Saratoga.

Cambridge lets out a heavy sigh. Later than this lot; still earlier than him. Julian would know about a lot of things, including Wolf 359, but not the later Borg invasion that nearly devastated the Federation entirely. The one that was only stopped by the Caeliar.

"Bugger," he mutters. "Well, get on with it," and he hikes himself back onto one of the biobeds. His body language is casual to the point of being a little out of place, sort of careless.

"I'm from closer to fifteen years from now, forgive me if I'm less than specific, and I've been exposed in the meantime to biological material from the Gamma Quadrant and the Delta Quadrant, as well as whatever the Alpha Quadrant cooked up in the meantime. That includes extensive contact with alien races that you've never heard of. Standard Starfleet procedure was always followed. Eventually. And thus, I am likely immune to anything on board, and the danger will be to the rest of you."

A brief pause.

"Also," he says, "you write like a robot."

He's terribly sorry to inconvenience you.

"I'm sorry?" That's. Quite possibly the first time someone has made such a comment to him. That he writes like a robot?

He's not particularly offended, just caught off-guard.

"That's not exactly the best way to open up conversation, if you've not realized." Okay, maybe he's a little offended. But not enough to stop actually working, looking at the tricorder in his hand.

"Absolutely perfect technical precision," he says, "extensive vocabulary, never a grammatical flaw. I remember thinking it was quite a feat for someone who clearly felt so passionately about genetics to drain every ounce of passion out of the finished product."

A half-shrug. "Don't get me wrong," he says, "I prefer that to scientists trying to be funny when they haven't the first clue how to maintain ordinary social interaction. By the way, you didn't bat an eye when I mentioned the Delta Quadrant. Is that because I insulted you directly after, or is there another reason?"
