A chime sounds on all decks of the Enterprise, indicating that a message from the captain is about to follow.

"Attention all decks, this is your captain speaking.

"I wish to inform you that the
Enterprise will be making port in approximately three solar days. Her destination is the planet Risa, a peaceful planet known to us in a nearby binary star system. The native Risians are a friendly and welcoming people, accustomed to tourists from all across the universe; therefore, we will be allowing ship-to-shore leave for all aboard the Enterprise who have been cleared from Sickbay.

"The
Enterprise will remain in orbit around Risa for several days, if not weeks; therefore, during that time the transporter rooms will be accessible to all aboard, whether crew or civilian. Consider this a holiday, if you will. There will be on-duty security officers available both on the ship and on the planet's surface, who will be keeping track of all civilian guests to ensure their safety.

"You may expect another announcement should we anticipate any delays in arriving. I, uh. I wish you all a... pleasant holiday. Picard out."

The transmission ends, leaving the captain on the bridge to consider the rather awkward note he ended on. Counselor Troi, seated at his right, smiles and inclines her head, as if to congratulate him on a job well done. He draws in a bracing breath, and leaves the bridge to Commander Riker, excusing himself to his ready room.

Now that one task has been seen to, there are others that call his attention. He begins with making a Captain's Log...

(OOC: The above link leads to a personal log wherein Q arrives, and he and Picard have a little chat about conditions aboard the ship; matters seem quite strained until Q departs and, unbeknownst to Picard, another guest in the room decides the captain could stand to be just a little more cheerful...

This is the official IC plot kick-off for our holiday events! From this point forward, passengers may see freak snow flurries, mysterious moving mistletoe, or get a special surprise when trying to run a holodeck simulation. As for the other events, there will be a Saturnalia kick-off post in approximately 12 hours to announce the changes to Ten Forward [including the suckling pigs], and the Enterprise won't be docking at Risa until Friday (GMT-5). Any questions? Visit the OOC event post to learn more!)

Someone told Q he wasn't allowed to start any "Christmas-themed madness" aboard his ship.

Well. That someone said nothing about the Winter Solstice, Saturnalia, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Festivus... honestly, Picard can be so narrow-minded. It's amazing he gets anyone to follow his command.

Q appraises the dull lounge that passes for entertainment on this Federation ship at a safe distance, lest he run into that horrible imp who runs the bar or some fairy do-gooder looking to give him a piece of their mind. Mortals. So tiny and single-minded. This will never do.

Q smirks, and flourishes his hand. All at once, the room livens up into something much more agreeable. It's brighter, and he isn't so cheap that he uses the canned lights the humans seem to favor on their starships. No, instead the room is lit by thousands of wax candles of different heights and girths; draperies of purple, gold, and crimson are strewn around the windows and walls; there is music, guitars and flutes and mandolins gaily playing; and a banquet table is spread with a number of fine delicacies. Some of the off-duty officers find their boring uniforms transformed into Greek synthesis, and stand about gaping at themselves. Yes, this is quite good so far. But it is not enough. With another snap of his fingers, ornate masks appear on some of the guest's faces, small gifts of cheap jewelry appear in the ladies' hands, and many of the tables are spread with games; cards, dice, and many more profitable and lewd enterprises that would certainly have the good captain frowning. Why not have a little fun?

Ah, yes. But there is one more thing, isn't there? After all, it is Saturnalia, and what would a Saturnalia be without the sacrifice of a suckling pig?

Make that a dozen suckling pigs.

Oh, but why stop there? Make it six dozen suckling pigs, quite alive and squealing about as they dash under tables and through the halls. Q laughs. "This should give them some fun."

And with a snap of his fingers, he is gone.

[ooc: Let the Saturnalia events begin! Don't know where to start? Check out the OOC event plotting post to coordinate with other players and make some mischief. Have fun, everyone! Holiday events will run until the end of the year, so all players can have a chance to participate. Ten Forward will remain like this until Saturnalia's end, traditionally around the 23rd of December.]

Booker had been here a short time, but he already felt overwhelmed and a little lost. He was a survivor, and he knew he would eventually be fine, but in the meantime, he felt still out of it. Booker sighed as he looked around, eying the corridors as the turbolift doors closed on them, whirring him away toward Ten Forward. The corridors all looked the same, and constantly seemed to stretch on for eternity, and that was just those between his new rooms and the turbolift, and the turbolift and ten forward.

He'd not yet ventured into the rest of the ship, as he was still on quarantine, and he had no desire to cause a fuss. Even so, He’d heard someone murmur about their being miles and miles of corridor and he could believe it. He was starting to realize just how big this place was, and wondering in a sort of daydream kind of way what the faces of those on Columbia would look like if he showed up with this ship and brought their floating city down once and for all.

He was brought out of his daydream by the opening of the turbolift, ahead, and he sauntered forward to the doors of Ten Forward, stepping in with a curious glance. And then stopping, mouth dropping open. Once his surprise was gone, he chuckled and ventured forward, eyes drawn from wonder to wonder. Stars moving outside the main window, aliens of all kinds, in uniform and out, alongside humans who were dressed just as diversely, and the long bar, at which people moved. It all was... a lot to take in.

This was definitely not Portland!

(ooc: and the Domino and Booker thread looks like it will be NSFW for sexytimes, as well as include possibly triggering mentions of attempted suicide, so read at your own risk!)
(ooc: Also, all threads happen before the Domino and Booker one, for timeliness. And yes, this post is open for more tags.)

Ahim had been quite curious about what she could create in the holodeck for a while. She had considered several different things, but the palace on Famille and the main deck of the Galleon were safest within her memories. Instead, she directed the computer to recreate a neighborhood in Tokyo where her favorite grocery store was. When the computer requested a season, she chose winter. It was a lovely city in the snow. She smiled remembering how excited Don had been to see the produce prices on Earth. The tea there was quite nice as well. And so many different kinds!

Akiko would have been proud to know that Shotaro had gotten busy on some self-promotion here on the Enterprise. It suited the starship's name, at any rate. With a few markers and his typewriter, he'd gotten together the rudiments of a promotional flyer. And then used the replicator to duplicate his work of art enough to leave on every table, most corridors, and even the turbolifts a flyer advertising his skills. "Narumi Space Detective Agency! Hard-boiled detectives Shotaro Hidari and Philip are here to solve the mysteries that plague the Enterprise! Specializing in lost pets since 2009! No case too big or small! Find us in rooms #0716 and #0726, or wherever the winds of trouble threaten the peace of this ship!"

No sooner had he gotten them all out there then did he see a small cluster of suckling pigs rush past him squealing. He stopped in place and watched them pass him the other direction, turning in place on one foot, his hands on his hips. This stank of Q. He was pretty sure leaving a bunch of pigs to wander a ship like this was a bad idea.

He deployed the Memory Gadgets. Spider created a pen for them, spanning the width of the corridor, only tall enough to keep them from climbing. Any person would be easily able to step over and through the small group of piglets, assuming they missed the mess they were making on the carpeting. Stag and Bat were providing backup in helping him corner pigs to get them into their corral.

Shotaro hadn't looked at a map to verify, but he hoped there wasn't anything critical down this hallway. It would be unfortunate if some officer or the other messed up their nice shoes.

Taking a break from rounding up pigs, he caught Stag in midair and pulled the memory out of it so he could call his partner. "Hey, Philip. What do pigs eat?"

((OOC: Down for any and all Christmas/Saturnalia shenanigans here. Bring your snow flurries, mistletoe, and general harassment toward the half-boiled detective.
