[Sickbay]: Round Four Scans and Vaccines

There has been quite a lot of activity in Sickbay over the last couple of days. In addition to new guests arriving on the Enterprise, all of whom need to be cleared and vaccinated when necessary, there are the wounded who have come back from Alemar III and those looking in on them. Dr. Crusher has never been more glad that she isn't short-staffed.

While Lieutenant Worf and his security detail bring in the new passengers, Beverly ensures those recuperating have enough space and privacy. Beds may be limited, but nobody will be on the floor in her sickbay. For those who haven't been here before, Sickbay is fairly ordinary for a ship's hospital. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you might see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones.

As for the staff, they're all well-groomed and friendly. As a matter of fact, all personnel look harmless. Well, perhaps excluding the sun avatar, but Trance Gemini is as skilled as the Starfleet officers.

"All right, come in," one of them calls out as you enter. "Don't be shy. It's just a scan and a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

[ooc: Open log! For new characters (August and September apps), tagging isn't mandatory but ICly going to sickbay is. So if you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. For those who are tagging, we have Julian Bashir, Trance Gemini, and Simon Tam on deck, with Beverly Crusher by request only. So please specify in the subject line of your tag who you would like. For those returned from the Alemar III plot, if you are not requesting a thread with a doctor but would like your character open for visitors, put "Visiting Post" in your subject line, or specify if it's locked to specific visitors. If you would like more details about sickbay, here's the wiki page. If you haven't made your intro yet, you can assume the doctors will want to see your character shortly after they arrive, and backtagging is love!]

She nods, moving off slightly. On something more neutral, something that won't matter if they're overhead. "And after? They're short staffed with all the new people in the medbay, or do they allow us to resume our positions that we held?"
spideys: (080 ❖ it's complicated.)

any doctor will do.

[personal profile] spideys 2014-09-20 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Peter ... is so not okay with going to the sickbay.

Not even a little bit.

In fact, this mandatory thing is kind of a joke, right, because what if he'd really rather just be jettisoned off the ship instead of being checked on by someone who undoubtedly do very bad things to him? It's not like he wanted to be kidnapped into space by some guy called 'Q'.

Yeah, in fact, he's just going to ... go.

Maybe a medical personnel should stop him.

[personal profile] asklepian 2014-09-20 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
"We are, mostly. I'm obviously not Chief Medical Officer, since Q hasn't deigned to spirit anyone away. Doctor Crusher is still here, I'm simply working underneath her. I can't imagine they'd turn you down for helping in Sciences."

Because they would be fools indeed for turning down someone with Jadzia's knowledge and experience.

He leads her over to the biobed he's claimed as his station, so to speak, and gets out a tricorder. It's not like he doesn't know her medical profile, but just in case he's not available, the others needed to as well. "Honestly, both of us are probably completely up-to-date on all the required vaccinations, but best to be cautious."

[personal profile] ex_old_man857 2014-09-20 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
The mention of the doctor turned Jadzia's mind. If it was the past, that would mean that the Chief would be here, only he wouldn't have any recollection of his time aboard the space station. Complications, indeed. "I certainly hope so. I wouldn't want to twiddle my thumbs all day."

Not that she would. No doubt she can poke her nose in somewhere and do something, even if it is just magic tricks... And another thought as she watches him with his tricorder. She didn't even have Dax yet... At least the her of this time. Curzon wouldn't die for another year, give or take. "It could be worse, and considering some of the places we have ended up."

[personal profile] asklepian 2014-09-20 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, certainly, I'm hardly complaining. As abductions and unexpected relocations go, this is mild." No Jem'Hadar, no alternate reality with thoroughly unpleasant versions of the people he knew and loved, no impending riots. Granted, there was the fact that they'd be coming up on one of the worst battles in Federation history in a matter of a handful of months, and he couldn't say a thing to stop it...

Well. He'd very nearly managed to not think about that for a day. Can't have that.

"I'm sure we can find something for you to do." Julian produces a hypospray containing the standard run of vaccinations and antibiotics, and doses her with it. "And done."

Excuse you, we have morals and don't experiment on people.

Julian is on the lookout for potential runaways, and goes to smoothly intercept Peter with a friendly expression and cheerful voice. "Terribly sorry to keep you waiting! We're a bit overrun, as you can see."

Seriously, what is with everyone trying to escape? Do you want to catch horrible diseases you haven't been exposed to before, and therefore have absolutely no immunity to? Does no one remember how terribly this works out?

"I... wanted to be sure I told someone. I'm not... so good at asking for help," Marion admits with a slight frown.

"And yeah. I need someplace private. I can't hold back if I gotta shift... I get big too." Pony sized really but she would rather not mention that. It's a little worrying that she gets so big in Marion's mind.

"And food helps. High fats and protein. Since I can't exactly hunt... Gotta eat whatever I can get here." Marion considers her normal habits on a full moon.

"Actually, if.... a private room might help. I'm not always... safe to be around. I try not to hurt anyone but... I need a place I can go be by myself."

He can and does--he's pretty quick on the draw with the thing, from long experience. And it's not like he needs to take a deep tissue scan and full genetic profile. Though from what he sees, he sort of wishes he was--what the tricorder is picking up is fascinating. His body temperature is worryingly high, higher even than a Vulcan's, but he doesn't seem to be suffering any ill effects for it--any normal human, even enhanced ones like himself, would have been dead from such high temperatures.

It's actually somewhat amusing and/or endearing to see Wan so fascinated with something anyone from this century would take completely for granted.

"Careful you don't do that with one that has something in it," he says cheerfully. The empty one isn't going to do any harm, but one that had a cartridge might.

That makes him chuckle, and he gives her an apologetic smile.

"To be honest? It would have to have lasted a lot longer for me to have heard of it. Sorry."

He's read some Earth literature, but he knows there must be countless things that have been completely lost to time. Especially given the state of Earth after the Fall. He's not much of a novel reader, anyway: philosophy, history, poetry, yes, but not novels, except some of the classics. He knows Beka has a bit of a collection, but he leaves them for her.

"But you wouldn't have heard of the military I serve in, either, so we're even."

He raises his eyebrows when she talks about the incident that someone called Sheppard mentioned. He doesn't know anyone called Sheppard, but he thinks he can probably work out which incident she means.

She's got a heavy sort of accent, but it's not one he knows; unsurprising, since from the way she talks, she's probably from Earth.

"'Incident'? Yeah, I guess that's one way to describe it. You haven't been here long then."

"Uh -"

Peter stops in his tracks, feet slowing down, pivoting towards Julian.

"Uh - yeah, yeah, no problem, doc. I was just going to um -"

Escape. Definitely escape. He might have had vague plans of finding the captain and making some kind of arrangement but that would've made him look far too suspicious, so hiding was the next best idea. Peter's good at hiding. Years of making yourself mostly invisible in school, and then recently turning into a masked vigilante gives you a fair amount of expertise.

"- come back later, if it was too busy."

But ... guess they're not! Oh, joy.

Any doctor is fine

[personal profile] kepthimhuman 2014-09-20 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
If he has to go to sickbay, he'll go to sickbay. He has nothing against doctors. He may have never visited one as a child (growing up in a place where doctors didn't exist), or for some years as an adult, but in recent years has been going to a doctor at least once a year. So going now is no big deal. It gives him an excuse to get away from those he'd rather not talk to right now, and who knows what sort of space diseases he might need protection against?

If he's stuck here, he might as well see some more of the ship, anyway.

He is a little apprehensive though. "What's a hypospray?"

[personal profile] ex_old_man857 2014-09-21 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
She can't disagree in the least. Most things didn't tend to turn out that well. This? So far aside from suddenly finding herself here and being herded to the medical bay, there had been nothing hostile.

"Good thing I have many talents then." Although she still wasn't as flexible as Emony, so no gymnastics. But, with that done, Jadzia gives him a grin. "I knew there was a reason you were my favourite doctor."

It's fairly evident that the young man is nervous. Julian doesn't know why--honestly, he doesn't really care either.

"You wouldn't want to skip out on vaccinations--there's plenty of microorganisms in a crew made up of individuals from dozens of worlds that you would have absolutely no immunity to. It'd rather make smallpox seem mild in comparison."

Julian waves him toward a biobed. "It's a simple scan and standard antibiotics and vaccines, same as anyone gets. We are in an unventilated, enclosed environment after all, no matter how large it seems."
asklepian: (pic#7053853)

[personal profile] asklepian 2014-09-21 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
"My pleasant demeanor and willingness to assist you with science experiments aside," Julian quips back, smiling. "I do believe I'm just about done here, at least enough that Doctor Crusher can spare me for a few minutes. We can find someplace out of the way so I can get you caught up."

There was going to be quite a lot they needed to tell each other, he thinks. Starting with precisely how much they couldn't tell each other.
asklepian: (pic#6889756)

[personal profile] asklepian 2014-09-21 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
"And how are you feeling?" Julian might not be the one particularly taking care of Dylan, but he can check in on him well enough--and he does indeed look distressingly thin and worn from their time planetside. Nothing that he couldn't recover from, but enough that Julian agreed with Trance's assessment that the recovery needed to be monitored.

"Do you need anything else to read? I can go find some literature or history books in the database for you," Julian offers kindly.
spideys: (086 ❖ here's my point.)

[personal profile] spideys 2014-09-21 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Uh huh."

There's a weightiness in the way Peter follows Julian's directions towards a biobed. Long and lanky-legged, he hops up and perches himself at the edge of the bed. Yeah, his nervousness is clear in his posture, but he can't help it, can he?

"A scan?" He's eyeing the equipment with a fair amount of suspicion. "Hey, uh - there's such a thing as doctor-patient confidentiality even in space, right?"
asklepian: (pic#7053872)

[personal profile] asklepian 2014-09-21 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, of course. Ideally, we won't even need it." But, well. Things happen. "It's just a precaution, in case something does happen. Your being here may not be intentional, but while you are, it's our responsibility to make sure you stay whole and healthy."

Julian stays not quite right next to the biobed, but he does move to stand in front of Peter. "Now I was brought here, same as you, so if I happen to get sent back to my own time you'll have to look for someone else, but as long as we're both here, you can come to me for anything. I promise, I've seen just as strange or moreso than anything you might be able to throw at me."

"Then I guess you might not know some of the things I consider classics," Marion hazards a guess. But there is some small hope that a few of her favorite books survived until at least this time period. "Which is a shame. I was pretty fond of Angela's Ashes."

If she ever actually looks she will figure out that some of her favorites aren't in this dimension due to divergent time lines.

"Nah. Barely two days. Haven't gotten used to this place yet.... Didn't want to upset Commander Worf by not showing up here either so here I am." The Texan shrugs her shoulders lightly. She is trying to cope with this place as best she can.

Mostly she is irritated that she missed a very important meeting because of Q.

[personal profile] ex_old_man857 2014-09-21 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
She gave a small snort in response to that banter from him. While her own thoughts were spinning around in her head, she didn't let that come forward. "I can keep myself occupied for a few hours, Julian, if you need to remain here."

A little quirk of her eyebrow. "But if she really can, then no doubt you know some place that will work?"

"I dunno, doc. I'm kind of - well, I've got this ... thing where -"

Peter shakes his head, shrugs helplessly.

He's actually not even sure how to explain it. He hadn't exactly explained anything to Gwen when he 'told' her, either. But he doubts slinging a web on Julian is going to clear anything up; in fact, it might just piss him off.

"Well, if this scanner can analyze DNA, it'll find that I'm not exactly 100% human in a sense.

"But uh - thanks. For the confidentiality."

[personal profile] asklepian 2014-09-21 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Is that all? You're in good company, then. Considering the variety of people on a starship." Julian sounds casual about it because he really rather is, he could be considered 'not 100% human' himself.

"We're not about to kick up a fuss about something as little as that. Does that mean you have any particular medical conditions I should be aware of, outside the realm of...well, normality is a poor phrasing, because what exactly is normal...I do hope you can forgive me for that."
spideys: (023 ❖ you should see the other guy.)

[personal profile] spideys 2014-09-21 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
Is that all?

Wow. He's never even considered that that could just be it, considering how much his newfound power seems to be affecting every single aspect of his life. It's all-encompassing, and kind of makes for a hell of an existential crisis.

So, there's a bout of perspective for him.

"Uh. Yeah. I guess for starters, I've got accelerated healing abilities. All it usually takes is a good night's sleep and then I'm good as new; and that's after getting the stuffing kicked out of me by someone usually as superpowered as I am.

"I dunno if that'll affect the antibiotics and the vaccines."

"I guess not," he says. "I'm from ..." He lifts his hand and waves it, vaguely. "A long way from here."

He's still not sure precisely where they are, but wherever it is, it's a hell of a long way from Tarn-Vedra.

"But I know some things. From, uh, I'm guessing you're from Earth."

And she's right; he hasn't heard of the book she mentions, and she gets an apologetic shake of his head. This whole experience must be a hell of a perspective-changer for the people here from the past. He, at least, deals with different planets and cultures on a just about daily basis.

"For what it's worth, the exams aren't too bad. They're just looking to vaccinate us, check we're not carrying any nasties from other timelines or universes. Scan us so they can treat us if we need it."

Record the genetic makeup of any Heavy Worlders they find.

There's a kid wandering through the sickbay, and Dylan thinks he'd seen him before, in sickbay during the busy hours after the casualties began being beamed up from the planet. When Dylan himself had first wound up here. He's seen him pass by a couple of times before, actually, but this time, the kid pauses as he walks past, and gives Dylan a wave.

"Hey."

Dylan smiles. He's observant, good at picking up subtle clues about people quickly. He has to be, to be able to make the sort of judgments he has to make on a daily basis back on his ship. And the kid is skittish, scared even, looking very small and alone.

He beckons the boy over.

"Come on over."

Dylan looks up at the sound of a voice that's familiar but has a tone that's not so very familiar.

Friendly is not usually the tone Lucie takes when she's talking to her roommate. Especially since they hadn't spoken since Trance came to their quarters and Lucie had managed to get completely the wrong idea about what was going on, treating him like some sort of bully picking on the poor, defenceless Trance.

(He's actually pretty sure Trance could take him in a fight if she tried.)

So he's surprised to see his roommate, surprised to see that she's carrying some flowers. Which is actually a nice gesture; he kind of misses the greenery in his quarters on the Andromeda and scattered in places around the ship.

"Lucie. Uh, hi. Thanks. That's, uh, that's nice."
