[Sickbay]: Round Four Scans and Vaccines

There has been quite a lot of activity in Sickbay over the last couple of days. In addition to new guests arriving on the Enterprise, all of whom need to be cleared and vaccinated when necessary, there are the wounded who have come back from Alemar III and those looking in on them. Dr. Crusher has never been more glad that she isn't short-staffed.

While Lieutenant Worf and his security detail bring in the new passengers, Beverly ensures those recuperating have enough space and privacy. Beds may be limited, but nobody will be on the floor in her sickbay. For those who haven't been here before, Sickbay is fairly ordinary for a ship's hospital. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you might see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones.

As for the staff, they're all well-groomed and friendly. As a matter of fact, all personnel look harmless. Well, perhaps excluding the sun avatar, but Trance Gemini is as skilled as the Starfleet officers.

"All right, come in," one of them calls out as you enter. "Don't be shy. It's just a scan and a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

[ooc: Open log! For new characters (August and September apps), tagging isn't mandatory but ICly going to sickbay is. So if you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. For those who are tagging, we have Julian Bashir, Trance Gemini, and Simon Tam on deck, with Beverly Crusher by request only. So please specify in the subject line of your tag who you would like. For those returned from the Alemar III plot, if you are not requesting a thread with a doctor but would like your character open for visitors, put "Visiting Post" in your subject line, or specify if it's locked to specific visitors. If you would like more details about sickbay, here's the wiki page. If you haven't made your intro yet, you can assume the doctors will want to see your character shortly after they arrive, and backtagging is love!]

To most anyone else the sight of the sickbay was welcoming and gave an air of harmlessness. For Wan, who had never seen anything like it in his life prior to waking up very expectantly on the ship, it was just as alien and potentially dangerous as the rest of the place. Which wasn't to say he was scared - he wasn't - but he was wary of it. Particularly since he'd been told the visit was required and he'd be treated as a prisoner otherwise. It made him visibly cautious and distrustful of the people of this space-city.

When he was waved over to a bed, he approached it, but did not sit. He stood at one end and studied the strange instruments arrayed out on the nearby table. Once he'd given them a look over, he turned his attention to the people in the room. Most of them were in that strange clothing, but it was colored blue. The colors clearly had a meaning of some sort. This was supposed to be healers enclave of some sort and spirit water did heal, so perhaps they wore blue to show their connection to the element of water?

"Um," Marion offers Trance a very sheepish looking smile. Dylan had been very helpful. Also he would have been really cute if he wasn't on bed rest right now. She is pretty sure her inner wolf is going to stand up and say hello once he is better.

That will be mildly embarrassing.

"You're Trance, right?" Marion finally relaxes enough. "I was told..."

Marion considers this carefully. "I have a really private medical... issue. Can I talk to you away from curious ears? I really don't mind being examined because hello safety issues it's just..."

Marion shrugs her shoulders. Need she go on?

Another round of visitors, another round of scans and vaccinations. Julian was very nearly seeing more new faces now on the Enterprise than he did on Deep Space 9.

...Well, perhaps that was a bit of an exaggeration, but the variety was simply staggering. Everyone looked just a little bit different--some were more eye-catching than others for various reasons, one of which being their demeanor. He could pick up nervousness fairly well.

The blue in his own uniform was limited to the undershirt, his shoulders grey, but otherwise it was very similar to the clothing of Doctor Crusher's staff--he seemed to belong, if only tangentially. He at least seems comfortable enough.

"Hello, there. My name is Doctor Bashir--I'll be taking care of your examination."

Wan's eyes snapped to Julian, focusing on the difference in his clothes from the others in the room before going back to his face. The man seemed friendly, at the very least. That didn't change Wan's distrust just yet, but it helped.

"Hello Doctor Bashir," he replied in a calm, if still wary, tone. "My name is Wan."

Visiting Post! | OTA especially Marion and the crew

Dylan has told Trance what must be at least ten times that he's fine and he doesn't need to be in sickbay. She never does this to him on the Andromeda. He's nearly died of blood loss and been up and about and going to rescue people later the same day.

He didn't even really get hurt on Alemar III. Nothing compared to some of the wounds he's had. But when he's been wounded, Trance will fix him up, set the nanos to work, and then let him go.

If he could see the slight gauntness in his face, he might feel less inclined to argue with his medic that he needs more time to recover from his malnourishment. It's humiliating to be in the sickbay for this when nobody else was struck this badly by the lack of food.

He just got a little hungry, but Trance has stuck him here, where unlike on the med deck on the Andromeda, he can't just leave when her back is turned. There are too many medical personnel here for that. So he's stuck, no matter how much he tries to wheedle Trance into letting him out.

At least someone brought him a PADD.

And at least here, he doesn't have the pressure of feeling like he's letting his crew and mission down by being stuck in bed.

No more than by being on the Enterprise itself.

There is a woman in sick bay now. She isn't very tall but she moves with the air of someone who is usually pretty confident. It is just with everyone milling about she has to pause to take it all in.

Boy. She hates this. Her expression flickers and it looks like she is mostly tempted to turn around and march out of sick bay. She doesn't need to do this with everyone here. She should do this one on one later on. She is about five seconds away from turning around and leaving. No matter what she had said to Worf.

That is when she pauses because she could smell someone. Sure Marion could smell everyone else who had been in here for the past few hours but something about Dylan makes Marion pause, she glances his way silently.

Huh.

"You look like you'd rather be anywhere but here," Marion starts. She feels largely the same really but she imagines being stuck in bed in such a public location can't be fun.

Well here's someone to make Dylan feel better.

Though that is pretty questionable. But hey, Harper's turned up. He looks no worse than usual from the adventure on the planet. He's also kinda concerned for Dylan after everything that's happened and what's gone before. They needed to talk face to face.

"Hey boss." He smiled, at least he hoped it was a smile at Dylan. "Trance keeping you here?" Why yes, he does know about the Captain's bad habits.

He's good at noticing when he's being watched. Partly it's paying attention to his peripheral vision, partly it's just a sense. Partly it's the fact that in Argosy Special Operations, anyone who doesn't know when somebody's paying them more attention than they should winds up dead.

So even though he's reading vaguely on the PADD, he notices when a woman stops, just outside where his bed is kind of partitioned off.

It's a busy day, it's probably not much use trying to read anything anyway when the medical scans are going on.

The woman looks over at him with a cool sort of interest.

"Pretty much," he says, setting the PADD down, but he smiles at her, because that's just polite, and because her company's welcome, as annoyed as this whole stupid situation has made him. "But I think they'd notice if I tried to break out."

Sickbay was crowded, that was for sure, but it made Henry feel slightly more safe that he was surrounded by people who could help him if something went wrong. While he hated a lot of things about this ship, at least the medicine was advanced, even if he had to constantly tell himself he was in the future and it wasn't magic. He had left at one point but the silence of everywhere else reminded him of the cave and he'd quickly returned.

Walking around, he looked at the other people, and gave Dylan a little wave as he passed. If the man saw, he's notice the boy's scared exterior and wary demeanour. Basically, Henry had no intentions of leaving sickbay again.

Julian Bashir

Jadzia had been in her quarters changing out of the attire she'd worn with Kira in the holosuite. A part of her still couldn't believe that the Bajoran had knocked out Lancelot, and yet there was another part of her that really wasn't that surprised at all. She had learned quite a bit about her over the years, and getting her to have fun had always been a bit of a challenge, especially when she was playing a married woman who was cheating on her husband, the king.

Yet, one moment she had been pulling the top of her uniform over her head, and the next? Not in her room. She didn't of course register that it was one of Q's cosmic pranks, but why would she? She paused, mind working a variety of explanations out, yet none of them really fit. Her fingers moved to her chest, but yes, she hadn't placed the commbage back on yet. Dropping the hand, she instead tucked in the hem of her shirt before letting her eyes start to wander around. The uniforms were familiar to her, and she knew it was a starship- she'd been around them long enough to know that, yet before she was able to start poking around, she found herself being escorted to the sickbay.

While she had questioned the reasoning behind it, she soon found herself ushered through the door and left within. Cleared? How about an explanation. Still, she didn't take it out on anyone, and a part of her thought, here's something new as she stood off to one corner, looking at one of the monitors.

Security? Seriously? Just how many people tried to run from a routine medical examine? He at least had a reason! The last time he had been given a vaccine his hands had swelled up like balloons and he got numb tongue. And that just lead to more hypos. And hypos sucked. They sucked a lot. So maybe security was a good idea. He wouldn't have made it there otherwise. And for all the demanding he had done from Bones, the jerk was of the same impression that he should come down here too. The whole medical world was against him.

He heard the comforting words echoing in the room and he let out a derisive snort at that. But scowls and glares didn't get him anywhere with people like this. So, he put on an easy smile as he made his way through, hoping he might run into Bones. McCoy had been the only doctor he had needed in years, and definitely the only one that had poked at him since the transfusion. But that didn't look like an option, so he submitted himself to his fate and hopped up on the edge of a biobed and waited for someone to notice him-or if his luck held, for everyone to ignore him- so he could leave.

Julian had just turned away from one of the newest visitors with a smile and a wave of dismissal--more and more people, he had to wonder when Q would tire of this little game--when he catches sight of a familiar face. His heart soars and stops at the same time (which is incredibly uncomfortable), but even his apprehension doesn't last long. He's simply too excited.

"Jadzia!"

He's across the room in the space of a few seconds, barely even stopping to think before he's thrown his arms around her in sheer, heartfelt enthusiasm.

[personal profile] ex_old_man857 2014-09-18 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the sound of her name that draws her attention away from the screen. The voice is familiar, and why wouldn't it be? They had been on the station for quite some time now. Yet he is the first she has seen since suddenly finding herself not where she is supposed to be.

She's half turned by the time his arms engulf her, and Jadzia gives a laugh, although there is a look of confusion on her face. "Julian? They ushered you here too?"

"Hello, Wan. I'm truly sorry for all the trouble--I doubt the Security officers explained much to you. What we're doing is making sure we have the necessary information to help you if you become sick or injured, and giving vaccinations for illnesses you probably haven't encountered. After we're done, you'll be free to go anywhere on the ship that isn't restricted access."

Honestly, explaining this up front would help quite a lot. Julian still remembered getting threatened during the first round of exams he helped with.

"Do you have any questions for me?"

"Well, sort of. I've been here for a while, really--how much have they told you, did you just get here?"

Slow down, excitable puppy-man.

He takes a moment to look at her, trying to determine--well, what time discrepancy might lie between them. She's wearing the uniform that was phased out about a year ago, replaced with the one Julian was currently wearing. So at least a year. Possibly more.

That could make things incredibly complicated.

"I'm helping with the examinations, actually. We have Q to blame for this little diversion. He's been winking people here from all over space and time. Here being the Enterprise, by the way. 2366."

The lady in front of Marion was hard to miss. Horned, golden skins fading into tones of yellow and orange, clad in almost skin tight leather. And she came complete with a side arm. (and a set of knives in her boots). So, she was hard to miss. It was also hard to mistake Trance for anyone else. Still, she was polite.

"That's me." Trance pulled a curtain, sectioning off an area away from prying eyes and curious ears, wishing the Enterprise had something akin to Andromeda's Privacy Mode.

"You have my word I wont say anything unless lives depend on it. May I ask who sent you to me?" There could be a number. Tyr was doubtful, but a possibility. Harper, Dylan. Even Julian if this woman had something more nanotechnology related.

"Why do you need to do that?" Was his immediate question. "If I get hurt you can treat me then. If I get sick you can have me suck on a frog or whatever I need to do at that time. You can't treat me before I'm sick."

"Because it reduces your temperature and gets rid of hallucinations," he replied in a flat 'duh' voice. He was very much from a time before any kind of modern medicine. "Assuming I had a fever and was seeing things in the first place. If I wasn't, it wouldn't do anything. It's not as good as spirit water, but Aye-Aye said it works in a pinch."

[personal profile] ex_old_man857 2014-09-19 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
"How long is awhile?" As she leans back slightly, regarding him in turn. After all, he was at Quarks not that long ago... And, somehow she thought this is going to be a complicated series of events. And, to answer that series of questions. "Not much, and yes."

When he mentions Q though... Her mouth turns in to a line. That would explain quite a bit, actually. Yet as he continues, she stills. "Enterprise, 2366?"

Not that she hadn't heard him right, at least she thinks she didn't, but that is the past. Almost a decade ago, but not quite. She can recall the last time in the past, and knows that it is a very delicate line they walk now. That they are here... "Why is he doing that?"

[personal profile] asklepian 2014-09-19 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
"A few weeks." It really had been that long, hadn't it? Even so, Jadzia wouldn't have noticed him missing, what with the difference he guessed was at work here--he certainly hadn't ever noticed her missing, so they must be getting put back precisely when and where they were taken from.

It's about to get even more complicated. "Right, under Captain Picard. As to why, I have no idea, I've not talked to him. You remember how that went the last time, I'm sure." Or maybe she doesn't, but he didn't much feel like getting hypnotized or whatever he'd done again.

Do you see any frogs about, Wan?

"I...see. Illness covers quite a broader spectrum than high temperatures and hallucinations, and we do have medicines for it that don't involve putting amphibians in your mouth. And ways to prevent them from occurring in the first place, called vaccinations--so yes, we can in fact treat you before you're sick."
raavashing: (huh: You will never sleep alone)

Wan is skeptical and it shows, "How does that work?"

[personal profile] ex_old_man857 2014-09-19 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
A few weeks. It is odd to think about, having seen him not that long ago. And, that also means- "The Prime Directive."

Her brows furrow. She doesn't need to say much more than that as Julian should know. No matter what they know, it has to stay there in their minds, locked away, lest they change something. Add to that they are on a starship...

But, as to Q... "One encounter with Q in all my lifetimes is still one too many. What is the official stance from Enterprise?"
