[Sickbay]: Round Five Scans and Vaccines

Sickbay is fairly ordinary for a ship's hospital. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you might see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones. As for the staff, they're all well-groomed and friendly. As a matter of fact, all personnel look harmless. Well, perhaps excluding the sun avatar, but Trance Gemini is as skilled as the Starfleet officers.

If you're new to the ship, no doubt you've been escorted here by the security team. Nothing to worry about, the doctors just want to make sure you aren't carrying any viruses or are vulnerable to terrible space disease. Once you've been checked over — a quick scan from a tricorder and any necessary vaccines — you'll be free to go! Lollipops are optional.

"All right, come in," one of them calls out as you enter. "Don't be shy. It's just a scan and a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

[ooc: Sickbay is as always OTA! For new characters, tagging isn't mandatory but going to sickbay ICly is. So if you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. For those who are tagging, we have Trance Gemini, Beverly Crusher, and Rory Williams, with Julian Bashir by request only (and possible appearances by Simon Tam). If you have a preference, please specify in the subject line of your tag who you would like. If you would like more details about sickbay, here's the wiki page. If you haven't made your intro yet, you can assume the doctors will want to see your character shortly after they arrive, and backtagging is love!]

Rory raises his eyebrows.

Well, meeting queens is nothing new. He's had a few run-ins over the years he'd been traveling in time and space with the Doctor. Of course, he's never heard of a Queen Regina White before ... which is not to say that she doesn't exist or anything, because - well, obviously.

Right.

He shakes his head.

"Nothing's invasive, I promise, Regina. We're just going to do a quick scan and a non-needle vaccination. M'not sure what sort of medicine you're used to back where you come from but I can explain everything to you as I do it, if it'll help."

"What..is a scan?" So, that''s about the sort of medicine she has back home. None. People who were bled with leeches when they were sick and given herbs and teas.

"I'm not used to being examined when I'm not sick. That's typically a requirement, isn't it? Being ill?"

Ah.

Yeah.

That definitely confirms it. She's a Queen of Olde.

Rory pauses to reword his explanation. "A scan is a ... sort of way to check on you. Using some rather advanced tools," there's a gesture towards the scanner-bed behind them, "it'll be able to check to see whether you've got any illnesses that might need curing. Preemptively.

"Because nearly everyone here is from a different world and time, we've got to make sure anything that might harm someone else because they're not immune to what you are is cured first."

"Oh."

She still isn't sure what to think, not really, but she has no idea what else to do other than trust him.

"I don't...really understand, but I understand why. I think." And the people she'd met on her arrival had gone through it and seemed fine, so she's compliant, willing to let Rory do what he needs to.

"It must all look a bit odd and scary," Rory says sympathetically, "but I won't let anything harm you, promise."

He's glad (and relieved) that she's willing to cooperate, though. So far he hasn't had too much resistance where new arrivals are concerned but he knows that doesn't exactly mean that's the way it's always going to be.

"Why don't you have a seat on that bed for a moment." In the mean time, he pulls up a new file for Regina via his PADD and starts to set it up for her.

What he was referring to as a bed hardly looked like one, but Regina did, sitting as properly as she could with her hands in her lap as she looked around at her surroundings.

"Does everyone who ever comes here have to do this?"

"Yeah, it's part of the protocol," Rory says with a slightly wry look tossed over his shoulder.

"It's more of a bother than anything, just because we're all rather convinced we're healthy when we get here. But ... like I'd explained, one person's healthy immunity could mean the downfall of another."

To ... take it to a little more of an exaggerated stance.

"Right. So are you ready to do a scan?"
gloriouscurse: (; young regina has nothing to say)

"I could give you a more honest answer if I knew exactly what that entailed. Since I can't, I suppose my answer is yes," Regina said as she took a deep breath.

She understood his explanation, but everything was already so bizarre that she wasn't sure she had any choice but to just go with whatever happened. She'd have no way of knowing if it was supposed to happen or not.

"I appreciate your cooperation," Rory tells her, offering her a smile. It's reassuring and quintessentially nurse-like.

He'll make this as unnerving as possible.

The scan doesn't take longer than a couple minutes, and it really is quick and painless.

"You can sit up now," he says.

Well, that had been hardly anything at all, and she sat up, smoothing a hand down her dress.

"How long have you been on this...vessel?" she asked, unable to remember the name right away, but then it came to her and she corrected herself. "The starship, I mean."

"Ah, yeah. Not for very long," Rory says, with some amount of relief that it's still the truth. Because once he's been here long enough for him to say 'a long time' ... he'll have to worry.

He and Amy can't possibly stay here for too much longer. They've got their whole lives ahead of them, and the Doctor - their Doctor - is still somewhere out there in time and space, probably looking for both of them now.

"A month, maybe. Or maybe a little more than that. Long enough for the ship to land on Alemar III anyway." He shrugs. "I'm not sure if you've heard anything about it?"

Now Rory gets to the hypospray, another bit of space-tech he's going to - helpfully - guide Regina through.
