There's something different about Sickbay today.

If you are new to the ship, you may not notice any difference at all; however, for those who have been on the Enterprise for a while, it's impossible to miss. While, usually, the ship's CMO is on duty to assist new arrivals and the rest of the medical crew, she's nowhere to be seen. Dr. Beverly Crusher of this universe and timeline has gone missing. While the crew work to meet this new challenge, Dr. Julian Bashir has stepped in as the ship's interim CMO, with all the duties and responsibilities that entails. Here's hoping this is an easy day in Sickbay...

For those entering for the first time, no doubt you've been escorted here by the security team. You may be surprised to see that it's a fairly ordinary-looking hospital. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you might see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones. As for the staff, they're all well-groomed and friendly — even the more unusual aliens.

There's nothing to worry about, the doctors just want to make sure you aren't carrying any viruses or are vulnerable to catching new diseases. Once you've been checked over — a quick scan from a tricorder and any necessary vaccines — you'll be free to go. Lollipops are optional.

"All right, step on in," one of them calls out as you enter. "Don't be afraid. It's just a scan and a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

[ooc: Sickbay is, as always, OTA and open for backtagging! For new characters: tagging isn't mandatory but IC going to sickbay is. If you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. Since Dr. Crusher has been apped as a PC this month, she will not be seeing any patients until she decides to resume her responsibilities as CMO. Julian Bashir will be taking her place as head of the medical staff for the time being, so if anyone needs to thread fallout from that or ask him questions, he will have a toplevel you can tag. For everyone else getting standard checkups, tag in specifying which doctor you would prefer in the subject line of your tag, otherwise one will leap on you as they are available. There is a post up in the OOC comm with more details about Sickbay and which doctors are on deck this month, if you have any questions.]

Boy, is Beverly ever glad things are back to normal — or at least what passes for normal these days. Things got a little strange last month, but so far there haven't been any out-of-the-ordinary incidents. That should probably worry her, huh?

If this is your first trip to Sickbay, you may be surprised to see that it's a fairly ordinary-looking hospital. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones. As for the staff, they're all well-groomed and friendly. As a matter of fact, all personnel look harmless. Well, relatively harmless.

If you're new to the ship, no doubt you've been escorted here by the security team. Nothing to worry about, the doctors just want to make sure you aren't carrying any viruses or are vulnerable to terrible space disease. [personal profile] akito
One of the first things Akito had (re)discovered about himself was that he was most definitely not heteronormative. Girls were pretty, but boys were attractive and made his heart beat quickly in his chest. Unfortunately Akito hasn't had much luck finding many boys close to his age around the Enterprise, or if he has they weren't really his type. Either the wrong personality, or the wrong appearance (and hey, a boy's allowed to be a little shallow) and if they don't hit either of those things they may as well be a cardboard cutout for all the interest Akito can scrounge up for them.

But, every now and then, there's a boy who catches Akito's eye - almost always lanky but athletic, with dark hair and eyes, and a vibrant, playful personality (the exception being Jack, of course. nobody has quite caught his eye like the winter spirit has yet). They're few and far between, so he takes advantage of one of the rare sightings whenever he can despite having no idea how to flirt. He knows the basics though: dress up cute, put on some makeup, do his hair, and bat his eyelashes unnecessarily.

He knows the class schedule for his age group, where it takes place, when it lets out, and where he can sit casually every day to watch the cute boys walk by. Even if they aren't his type, Akito sure can appreciate a fine booty walking by when he sees one, and he takes full advantage of his stalking memorization skills.

It's mid-afternoon and the high school class is about to be let out. Akito likes this one in particular because some of the boys will actually look at him and flush bright red, especially when he's wearing a short skirt and shifts to give them a nice view of what Akito knows are very nice legs. He doesn't wear a skirt today though - just a plain pair of shorts that are only just long enough to be considered appropriate outer wear. More thigh with less effort, and he can cross his legs if he wants to without worrying about flashing his panties.

Win/win, in his opinion.

So feel free, residents of the Enterprise, to encounter Akito on one of his boy runs. Just sitting casually by the high school classroom waiting eagerly for some boys he can try to flirt with, though he has one of his sketchbooks with him so it's not like he seems too eager. Guys don't like that. And Akito isn't desperate. Just bored.

Really.

Pay no attention to the dreamy look on his face as he watches the boys leave their class for the day.

((ooc: Akito is wearing this and does indeed have some makeup on (a bit of blush and tinted lip gloss) because he really wants to hit on boys. or have boys hit on him. dis boy is taking full advantage of his trap status, yo. as for what he's sketching, it's actually bits and pieces of images that come to mind; his Tokyo, some things from life in Adstring. stuff he doesn't really remember, but can doodle anyway. major things would be a polar bear pup, and a fire-lizard.))

Emma blinked at her surroundings, her grip on Faith's hand tightening as she realized they weren't in their home anymore. The press of voices was heavy on her mind. In self-defense she closed her mental surveillance and let her senses take over. Too many people were too close and she had to keep a lot of awareness on the three year old at her side.

She took a step forward, her sky blue party dress swishing a little, her heels making a soft 'click' when they contacted the floor. After a moment's consideration she picked up her daughter and moved with purpose toward the bar. There were other things that caught her eyes and would require investigation, but right now she wanted to see what information was readily available.

So much for Christmas with Scott. She couldn't say she was upset about it.

He hasn't, it's true, had a lot of energy on a lot of the days he's been here. [ cw: depression ] )

So, dressed in an athletic shirt that hugs his upper body and leaves his finely sculpted arms bare and a pair of comfortably loose pants, he heads for the gym and into the martial arts area. He starts at a punching bag, and it begins as simple boxing. His form's good; boxing is taught around Panem, even in those districts that don't train their tributes. But as he warms to the fighting, it becomes less simple, less orthodox, less like a practised art than a survival skill. He's not just punching now; he's kicking, high and low, striking with different blows, and if there's a pattern to the drill, it's not easily recognizable.

What is recognizable, however, is how many of the blows he lands would incapacitate or kill a human opponent, if delivered with the right speed and power.

That becomes even more obvious when he moves on from the kickboxing to collect a staff and start running through moves on one of the mats, moves that sometimes look like he's practicing for a sword, and sometimes for a spear. It's with the staff in his hands that he looks truly dangerous, moving with a natural grace that's deceptively easy to watch.

Finnick learned to fight to kill.

"I think we need to talk."

Deck 7 is quiet. It's 8pm; most people are either still in Ten Forward, in a holodeck, or tucked up in their rooms.

Then the door of Room #0768 opens, and Annie (pausing only to glance up and down the hallway), walks very quickly over to Room #0767, where Finnick greets her, lets her in. This is normal for them.

Deck 7 remains quiet.

Except, after a few minutes, raised voices can start to be heard. If you were in the surrounding rooms or the hallway, and had very good hearing, maybe the first thing you can hear is 'It's not a lie! I broke!' Maybe not.

But certainly it's not going to take much for the shrieked, 'BEING FUCKING TORTURED!' to pierce the alcove's quiet.

The shouting continues. Loudly. Then it stops.

This time, when Room #0767's door opens, Annie runs out, runs straight across the hallway, and vanishes back into Room #0768. The door swishes shut.

Sometime later, Finnick walks out of Room #0767 and heads straight to Room #759* and Johanna.

Quiet returns to Deck 7, as if nothing happened.

[ooc: While neither Annie and Finnick are available for actual threading, feel free to have your characters react if you'd like! They got...loud.

It was so boring now that festivities were all over. No parties, no holidays (yet), nothing. What was a winter sprite to do? There was no real winter on the ship, so Jack couldn't even keep his mind off the boredom with his actual job. Being invisible to almost everyone on the ship didn't help matters either, not that he was convinced it would this time since he wasn't really one to strike up long conversations either. The solution was easy enough.

Make something happen. Obviously, with being in a starship, he still had to be careful but hey, it wasn't his idea to have a holodeck on bored that was used pretty regularly. Or a gym, for that matter.

So, if any one entered either one, they would not only find it rather chilly but also... icy? Maybe a few snow piles here and there? Clearly, whoever made it snow in Ten Forward was at it again! But this time, Jack Frost was the one to start any and all snowball fights. Because who else would start them? Also, he just liked seeing people slip and fall on the slick floor. And yes, he did remove any potentially dangerous furniture out of the gym while the Holodeck looked like Antarctica because it was just no fun with people got hurt.

Also, lots and lots of fresh snow. Because soft snow that easily exploded on your face was just the best kind of snow. Duh.

Steve's been spending a lot of time with Akito since he woke up. He feels responsible for the kid, even if the accident wasn't his fault. Since the knock to his head affected his memories, Steve kinda feels like the only guy on this ship who remembers who he is, and when the topic of a health care guardian came up with Dr. Crusher he seemed like the only real choice. Looking over his medical file a few days ago, he looked up and smiled.

"Hey, you've got the same birthday as my best friend," he had said.

Akito had just blinked at him. "I do?"

There was never much folding green* lying around back when he and Bucky were kids, so birthdays were usually marked by the usual pinch-to-grow-an-inch and a 'Happy Birthday, Punk,' and sometimes -- on good years -- a flat cake (because they were always out of baking soda) decorated with candy corn they'd saved from the last fall. He had frowned, realizing Akito and Bucky may have shared something else in common. Neither of them could remember ever having a birthday party.

So there's a cake in Ten Forward. A real one, with layers and frosting and 'Happy Birthday' scrawled across the top in icing. There are some balloons and music, and the bartender has helped out with punch and drinks and other snacks. Next to the cake there are a few wrapped presents. Hey, Steve got Natasha an alien space dog for her birthday; there's no way he was going to forget Bucky and Akito. Even if, to get them to come, he told Bucky the party was for Akito, and told Akito the party was for Bucky. Hey, it's the truth. Sort of.

It's not a huge party -- Steve wouldn't know the first thing about throwing one like that -- but it's festive and open to the whole room. Steve's friendly to everybody, helpful where he can be, and as long as everyone is on this ship he figures that makes them part of the same team. So come get a slice of cake.

(*slang for extra spending cash

So technically Akito isn't allowed to help out in the clinic. He's supposed to still be resting and recovering from his month-long bout of unconsciousness, but Akito isn't the kind of teenager that can sit still for too long; when confined to bed for an extended period of time he gets jittery and uncomfortable and all he wants to do is get up and get out and do something. Not even the threat of disappointing Steve Rogers, who has been ever the mother hen since Akito woke up, nor the quiet, maternal wrath of Beverly Crusher is enough to keep him immobile for long.

Steve has already stopped him from dismantling the biofunction monitor in his room so he could play Pong on it, while Dr. Beverly walked in as he was trying to rewire the biobed's sensors to create a small force field (and failing, to his utter heartbreak). Akito's positive the only reason he hasn't been kicked out of the Sickbay yet is because he's still regaining the muscle strength he lost while inactive for a month, in addition to suffering a major head trauma and retrograde amnesia, and therefore apparently supposed to be under medical surveillance for at least a week.

The most exciting thing that happens to Akito since waking up is the arrival of new passengers, meaning all sorts of interesting people stop by the Sickbay for quick examinations. Which also means everyone is preoccupied enough that Akito can help out by putting things back where they belong, or fetching fresh hyposprays for the clinic staff, or doing whatever he can to keep busy while also being an asset rather than a hindrance.

((ooc: come to the sickbay and encounter one busybody Akito! being the troublesome teenager he was born to be now that he doesn't have any pesky memories to get in the way. you can have your character bump into him as he's trying to entertain himself, or for new characters have him try to get them to feel more comfortable on this wicked awesome spaceship, or whatever other scenario you can come up with! clinic staff want to wrangle the kid back to his room? feel free to try! Plume the tooth fairy still follows him around closely, but Akito hasn't remembered the concept of the tooth fairy yet and so can't see her. :c ))

Personal Log: Previously, on Risa...
While the Enterprise was docked at Risa, there was an accident that left Akito badly hurt.
Since Steve is the closest thing he has to family, he's been looking out for him ever since.

]

It's been a month. Akito still hasn't woken up, not even when Shark found his way to his side. Steve doesn't know how he knew Akito was here -- maybe some kind of feline sixth sense that alerted him when the kid didn't return to his room for a few days -- but nothing and no one was going to remove the cat from his bed once he was there. He takes turns sleeping on Akito and curled up in Steve's lap, depending on the day and which person he deems most in need of cuddles.

Steve doesn't know Akito well, and the longer he stays in sickbay without anyone coming by to visit the guiltier he feels about that. But he likes the kid, he likes him a lot, and he doesn't want him to be alone. No one should be stuck here alone.

He's spent every day this month in sickbay, a few hours here and a few there. Sometimes he reads to him. Sometimes he just sits and waits for him to wake up. The one thing he doesn't do is lose faith that he will. Dr. Crusher visits often, making sure Akito's hair stays out of his eyes, assuring Steve that he will be OK. His body is just taking time to recover, after years of malnourishment and abuse. Steve nods, watching the way she cares for him.

At least he has that.

[OOC: It's a two-for-the-price-of-one deal tonight in Ten Forward! Come check on Steve in sickbay, make sure he's eating and not spending too much time sleeping in the chair next to Akito's bed, and get a cute kid with a fluffy pet cat who's gonna need some good friends for the next couple of weeks while he recovers. Or come meet them both, goodness knows a guy like Steve spending every day in sickbay is going to pique some curiosity. All threads will be timed to after the one with Akito and Steve. A.

TL;DR play fetch with Akito and a polar-bear dog puppy in the Holodeck. )

B.

He should have expected it - and he did! Sort of. But maybe he thought that since he was in such a different environment with proper nutrition he could have held off for another month or two or three.

Either way, he's spiked a fever and is wrought with exhaustion as his weak body decides to remind him that yes, he pushes it way too hard. And no, it's not going to stop working on him just yet but that doesn't mean it won't make him miserable.

So pretty much the usual.

There isn't anything Akito can do for his fever aside from take medicine for it, and he hasn't taken medicine in a few years now and doesn't trust the Enterprise enough to take anything here, so that's out of the question. And cold packs do nothing, since cold doesn't affect his body whatsoever. Which is totally worth the inconvenience of the occasional troublesome fever.

Akito does what Akito does best, which is ignore the fact that his body is worn out and wants to rest. If he was back in Adstringéndum with his familiar blanket-nest of a bed, his dog, and his makeshift family it would be different - no maybe about it. Here, however, Akito still finds it hard to sleep. The mattress is so comfortable that it's uncomfortable. After getting used to sleeping on a blanket-covered floor it will take a while to adjust to a proper bed (thought he admittedly isn't quite sure he wants to adjust).

So instead of curling up in bed with his cat and resting like he should be, Akito can be found roaming around the ship looking far less alert than he usually does while maybe sipping on a strawberry milkshake. Because hey! He can. And that's more than enough of a reason to drink a strawberry milkshake.

Plume, the tooth fairy, seems more than a little put out over his choice of beverage. (At least until he shares some with her).

The people of the good ship Enterprise might notice a colorful new addition ( or two, or three, with her mini-fairies fluttering about ) walking around. Her iridescent wings fan out anxiously but she remains grounded for now. She'd rather not risk her razor blades for wings damaging anyting. This space was so... confined. At least in Adsringendum she had room to breathe.

Or she may go entirely unnoticed. It depends entirely on the person and whether or not they believe. Yet even someone isn't a believer, they might take notice of the pythmint floating through the air. He does actually appear to be coiled around something but what is a mystery if one can't see Toothiana. There's also a cat trotting through the hallways who lets out the occasional meow at seemingly nothing in particular.

Bird lady or not, it's a rather strange scene.

BEST BEFORE JN 15 2012

The date is so clearly printed in bold black type on the top of the egg carton, currently placed on the table before him. Maybe Peter had been hoping to find an actual kitchen between his trek from his room to Ten Forward, but given that his mission proved unsuccessful, this dumb carton of eggs - a dozen of them - is still with him, and are likely to expire ...

Well, technically they expired a couple of centuries ago.

He opens the carton, scanning each still perfectly intact egg, suddenly overwhelmed with feelings of ... loss? Nostalgia? He misses his Aunt May something fierce. These were, after all, for her, like he'd promised.

And Gwen. He misses Gwen.

And hell, he misses New York. The rude cabbies, the throng of people everywhere, pigeons perched on rooftops, sirens and horns blaring down busy avenues, the smell of garbage and street vendor food simultaneously wafting in the air; he even misses John Jonah Jameson's ridiculous tabloids in The Daily Bugle, calling him a menace.

Ugh.

No, this is not the way to be, Parker. Not even a little.

He closes the carton, even considers sticking them somewhere to be disposed of, but it's the first real organic thing he's seen since he popped into this ship, and they're still technically good.

It'd be great to make some omelettes from actual ingredients for a change - even if he's not exactly sure how to do it.

This will not go down in the books as one of Steve's favorite weekends ever.

The costume has been humiliating enough, meeting people from his world, his future, while in said costume would be the cherry on top of the rotten sundae. Or you would think, anyway. But putting a soldier whose metabolism burns four times faster than normal on a candy-only diet for a few days, and you've got a recipe for one miserable man.

And -- because of course there's more -- that candy is apparently booby trapped. Steve thought the war was over. Just tell that to his hair, which is currently a limp shade of green -- and not a nice green, but a sad, tarnished penny green. It just adds to the lackluster expression on his face as he sits off in the darkest corner he can find, concentrating on keeping his knees together.

He doesn't think he's given women enough credit over the years. This is a lot harder than it looks.

--------

Once he's had plenty of time to brood, he decides no good ever comes from hanging back or hiding. He's heard about there being missions to find replicators that will produce real food somewhere on the ship, and he's interested in what the result of those missions has been. He can't be the only one on this boat who needs a square meal.

"Has anyone located a working replicator yet?" he calls to the room. "Or any food stores we can tap into?"

[ooc: The bit after the linebreak is for Dylan Hunt in particular, but consider either scenario OTA for any character! Steve's dressed as a USO girl, and my but don't those pumps make his legs look shapely? Powers and personality remain the same, save for the colored hair. :)]
akito: akito (pic#1138218)
[personal profile] akito
While still not entirely settled into his temporary new 'home', Akito is a great deal calmer about everything; less panicked and unsure. He's even started using the replicators for food and clothing every so often, which is why Shark is now following along behind him dressed up in a shark costume for cats. Even Plume is dressed up in a small bit of white cloth, resembling a ghost.

Akito may not be as chipper as he used to be back home, or with the family he made in Adstring, and Agito's absence may leave a painful hole in his heart, but that doesn't mean he isn't going to try and have fun. If there's one thing that his Jack had taught him, it was that no matter how gloomy you felt, if you at least tried to have fun things would eventually get better.

Q's choice of costume for him certainly helped things along in the 'fun' department. A dress made to resemble Toothiana; all feathers and fabric that twirl along with him. A headpiece to match, along with some gold and green feathers in his hair. Finally were a pair of fairy wings, though they don't quite resemble Tooth's which makes him somewhat annoyed. It's nice to be able to dress up as Toothiana, and if she were on the Enterprise Akito knows she would find it both flattering and amusing.

No longer restricted to the quarantine zones, Akito takes his time exploring every last inch of the ship with open access.

...Just don't ask him how many knives he's hidden in his skirts, okay? (Spoiler: the answer is at least ten less than he'd like there to be).

((ooc: so have Tooth Fairy!Kito, with his mini tooth fairy friend dressed up as a wee tiny ghostie, meaning that people who can't see a tooth fairy normally would be able to see a little floating ghost costume. SO SPOOKY. also there's shark but who cares about that fluffer.))
magicsprice: ([+] duality)
[personal profile] magicsprice
It's become rather obvious by now that those replicators are having issues and well, people can not really subsist upon candy alone. Thus Gold has decided that it would be quite a waste (and perhaps even a bit foolish) for him not to take advantage of the situation.

The man can be found at a table in the middle of the lounge, obviously already afflicted by the events happening aboard the ship. If you don't comment on his change in skin, eyes and clothing, he'll refrain from commenting on the changes that have beset you. But the unfortunate costumes are not the matter at hand here, no. The matter at hand is the man actually has food, real food set out on the table. Coffee, tea, sandwiches. Not one piece of candy in sight.

However the catch is, if you try to take one of them off the table, he'll request something in trade....unless you can manage to time your acquisition during a time when his son happens to be in the lounge as well. If you manage to be in Ten Forward at the same time as Neal is, the items on the table are free for the taking, otherwise, be prepared to barter or offer the man a favor to be repaid at a later date for your food or much needed caffeine.

Sickbay is fairly ordinary for a ship's hospital. As for the staff, they're all well-groomed and friendly. As a matter of fact, all personnel look harmless. Well, perhaps excluding the sun avatar, but Trance Gemini is as skilled as the Starfleet officers.

If you're new to the ship, no doubt you've been escorted here by the security team. Nothing to worry about, the doctors just want to make sure you aren't carrying any viruses or are vulnerable to terrible space disease. Once you've been checked over — a quick scan from a tricorder and any necessary vaccines — you'll be free to go! Lollipops are optional.

"All right, come in," one of them calls out as you enter. "Don't be shy. It's just a scan and a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

akito: akito / gazelle (pic#1138322)
[personal profile] akito
While Akito is more accustomed to sudden, unexpected dimensional shifts than the average person, he is having a surprising amount of difficultly adjusting to his new high-tech environment. Years spent in a dimension where reliable electricity was unthinkable, running water was a luxury, and food came in the form of whatever you could manage to forage or kill has caused him to grow unaccustomed to the standard luxuries he was used to back home. Add in the fact that the occasional rare luxury usually came with an unpleasant cost and you get one teenager who is distrustful of nearly everything he comes into contact with.

Being quarantined is an understandable precaution, yet comes with the assumption that he'll be forced to undergo medical examination, which causes him such anxiety that not even cuddling with Shark can relieve it completely. He'll ask Jack to accompany him when he has to, because even if this Jack isn't his Jack, and even if he is no longer a child, Jack is still Jack, and therefore someone he can trust to keep him safe. Which is why if he isn't trailing after Jack, Akito can almost certainly be found in his temporary private room, or - if the quarantine quarters are empty, in the shared common room.

Of course his plan of hiding out in a room doesn't exactly work out all the time, since Shark is used to having free run of a large range of territory and will often kick up a fuss to be let out. Akito knows the pain of being kept locked up all too well, and so every now and then can be seen following a perky-tailed fluff of a cat around the quarantined-accessible hallways, clearly uncomfortable with his surroundings but at least trying to seem like he isn't. Plume pats his neck in a comforting gesture from where she's hiding in his hair.

"Shark, let's go back," he whines quietly, once he's had quite enough of wandering around.

((ooc: so Akito comes with previous-game history from Adstringéndum, a post-apocalyptic setting where most things are out to kill you and beings like to pull mean pranks and cruel tricks on a regular basis. he's tiny in the sense that he's visibly underweight, 4'8", and the too-big sweater he's wearing doesn't help make him look any more menacing. and he's not used to the ambient sound of technology after over two years of going without. Shark is super friendly he just wants to be friends and get cuddles +u+ ))

Jack Frost was on the Enterprise.

But what is a shepherd of winter to do when in a space ship? He couldn't feel the Planet, he couldn't feel any Planet, really. His chest felt hollow, empty. It almost hurt. But never as much as the multitude of people walking through him, no matter how hard he tried to keep out of the way. It felt like his soul was being ripped from him, over and over. A cold and burning sensation.

Jack Frost was on a starship.

Clutching his staff in a white-knuckled grip, he couldn't fly like he wanted, not without Wind. But he was already very light, to ease Wind's burden when carrying a human child like him, but that was mostly because he was no longer human but a sprite. He was still quite strong and fast, however, so with a few practiced jumps and flips, he vaulted over the many unseeing adults and onto a small ledge next to the window. He crouched in it, pulling his hood up and leaning against the wall as he held his staff like a life line. A small fairy chirped at him worryingly, flitting about.

Frost was beginning to creep from around him, the beautiful fern like tendrils crawling over the windows.
