[Sickbay]: Round Five Scans and Vaccines

Sickbay is fairly ordinary for a ship's hospital. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you might see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones. As for the staff, they're all well-groomed and friendly. As a matter of fact, all personnel look harmless. Well, perhaps excluding the sun avatar, but Trance Gemini is as skilled as the Starfleet officers.

If you're new to the ship, no doubt you've been escorted here by the security team. Nothing to worry about, the doctors just want to make sure you aren't carrying any viruses or are vulnerable to terrible space disease. Once you've been checked over — a quick scan from a tricorder and any necessary vaccines — you'll be free to go! Lollipops are optional.

"All right, come in," one of them calls out as you enter. "Don't be shy. It's just a scan and a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

[ooc: Sickbay is as always OTA! For new characters, tagging isn't mandatory but going to sickbay ICly is. So if you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. For those who are tagging, we have Trance Gemini, Beverly Crusher, and Rory Williams, with Julian Bashir by request only (and possible appearances by Simon Tam). If you have a preference, please specify in the subject line of your tag who you would like. If you would like more details about sickbay, here's the wiki page. If you haven't made your intro yet, you can assume the doctors will want to see your character shortly after they arrive, and backtagging is love!]

Trance is no stranger to odd experiments, she'd been hanging around Harper for years. Still, this was the first time she'd seen anything like Bubsy, at least in her universe. It didn't look like 52nd century technology, or even 24th, but it worked and it was beautiful.

"Hello, I'm Trance. I'd like to check you two out, give you a vaccination and an antibiotic for preventative measure. If that's alright?" Trance gave a smile to both Sam and Bubsy.

"Yeah, my dad was a doctor. I'm guessing medicine has moved on some... and he'd love to see this place, but that's all fine. What do you need me to do? Bubsy is plenty relaxed, long as I'm about, he shouldn't mind you poking 'im some."

"No poking necessary, promise. Well, one small poke. Why don't you just sit down on the bed here, Bubsy can hover next to you if he'd like. I'm just going to scan you both, give you a vaccination and you'll be all set. Is there anything I need to know before we get started? Anything you'd like fixed or documented?"

Trance picked up the tricorder and started scanning.

Sam shrugs and nods, not seeming overly worried about any of the process. Bubsy settles calmly on his wheels next to the bed, leaning back in a 'sit' position, wings folded in as much as possible.

"Not sure what all your scan is going to tell you, but you'll probably figure out the whole female thing. Year I come from is 1819, by the European calendar, if you need to do any research."

The other things the scan picks up - despite appearances, Sam is, indeed, female. She also has a not-human-typical metabolism. All of the physiology is right, but her rate of cell decay, muscle development and general system efficiency are off the charts for a human. While very different than the super-soldier serum, Steve Rogers is probably the closest comparison, among those in ship's records. She also has no sign of having ever had any diseases, let alone carrying anything.

Bubsy, meanwhile, is made mostly of precisely what he seems to be. All the metals, wood and cloth are readily identifiable. What isn't as easy is the metal sphere at the center of his construction. It definitely has signs of bio-electrical energy, and Trance can get actual brainwave patterns off of it - if its in records, those would be identical to any brain activity scans of extremely intelligent canines.

"Well you're abnormally healthy. Are you sure there's nothing I need to know? Most people have usually gotten sick by now." Sam's metabolism and muscle growth didn't bother Trance at all. She wasn't that familiar with Steve Rogers, but it was similar enough to a Heavy Worlder. "Do you need to eat more frequently?" Trance was still more than a little upset that Dylan had not nearly starved to death after the 3 days on Alemar, but practically wasted away as a product of his Heavy Gravity metabolism. That wasn't happening again on her watch. Did Sam need to be put on her mother hen list too?

The Doctor here is used to plenty of odd stuff, so she figures it makes sense to give the details. Besides, not like anyone else can find the Fountain now.

"My parents found the Fountain of Youth, my mom was pregnant with me at the time. Far as I know, I can't get sick. Leastaways never have, and that's with being just about everywhere there was to go on Earth."

Eating is more complicated. "I /prefer/ to. When there's plenty, I do better when I can. But I don't need to. Actually, I can go a couple weeks on almost nothing, and so far, most of a week in the desert without water. Just means I'm extra starved and need to load back up when I can eat. Doesn't come up often, since I can manage on stuff that most folks can't digest, or that's mild poison to most. If any of the local critters can live on it, I probably can."

"Well that does make things easier doesn't it. Will giving you a vaccine or antibiotics interfere in any way?" Sam sounded like a mix of Heavy Worlder and Nietzschean, if she could digest pretty much anything. It was an interesting thought.

"And remember, just because you couldn't get sick in your universe doesn't mean you can't get sick here. If you feel odd at all or want anything checked out please come see us. I'd rather we have a little too much data on nothing than have you fall ill unexpectedly and not realize it. "

"Yeah, no problem. Don't think it will interfere, and my dad was a Doctor, so I'm used to the idea, leastaways, even if I've never been sick. Go ahead and do your thing. I'll let you know if anything ends up feelin' off."
