Immediately after this:
( In which Captain Picard informs Captain Hunt just what his crew have been up to. )
It's neither a familiar nor a pleasant experience for Dylan to find himself ashamed by association with his crew. There are things he's been ashamed of in the past, still is ashamed of now, but never did he imagine he'd find himself in a place and time beyond knowledge of the High Guard or the Commonwealth, where the impression he makes is all he has, and find that his crew have made him look like a fool who commands a rabble.
He appreciates the frankness with which Captain Picard had apprised him of his crew's behavior.
He doesn't appreciate having to hear from a man on whose ship they are all guests that, captain to captain, his crew has trouble with authority. He knows it, of course. When he'd first enlisted the crew of the Eureka Maru, Beka had made that much clear with her conditions.
He was willing to go along with that. Dylan's always been the sort of leader who brings his people along with him by making them want to follow him, by earning their regard rather than by forcing them. He's given his crew a lot of leeway, and they've repaid him by standing by his side against the night.
But now they've brought his name, his command, and his ship into disrepute, and he can't overlook that.
When he strides back into his new quarters, he's still so furious he goes straight to his room and throws himself into the chair at his desk and stares at the wall.
How is he supposed to do any of the things Trance said this place would let him do with this as the Commonwealth's introduction to this world?
Eventually, he taps the spot on his neck that activates his sub-dermal comms implant. It's late, but he is not leaving this until morning.
"This is Dylan. Trance. Harper. Is there anything that either of you would like to tell me?"
