[Sickbay]: Round Three scans and vaccines

New guests have arrived on the Enterprise, and that means Lieutenant Worf and his security detail are busy once again bringing them to see Dr. Crusher. Sickbay is fairly typical for a hospital. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you could see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones.

As for the staff, they're all well-groomed and friendly. As a matter of fact, all personnel look harmless. Well, perhaps excluding the sun avatar, but Trance Gemini is as skilled as the Starfleet officers.

"All right, come in," one of them calls out as you enter. "Don't be shy. It's just a scan and a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

Probably.

[ooc: Same rules as before: this is an open log for everybody. Tagging isn't mandatory, but going to sickbay is. So if you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. For those who are tagging, we have Julian Bashir, Trance Gemini, and Rory Williams on deck, so please specify in the subject line of your tag who you would like. Beverly Crusher can be available if needed, but the player may not always be available. If you would like more details about sickbay, here's the wiki page. If you haven't made your intro yet, you can assume the doctors will want to see your character shortly after they arrive.]

A warm smile crossed his face and a nod of understanding through the explanation, Angeal was glad to hear that they weren't separated. That alone gave him hope even though it was through another that such happiness could be gained and kept.

"I'm glad to hear it. You and Amy are fortunate." Which added one more thing on his list to protect and keep. That dopey grin just added one more reason to think better of Rory.

He didn't mind the hypospray in the least even though injections through needle wasn't all that bad either, just a bother since not all needles would work properly. "Don't worry, I can handle it." He added with a smirk.

Julian was justifiably paranoid, thank you. In his timeline, he'd been accepted--even if his enhancements coming to light also brought him some unwanted attention. He couldn't expect that here, and he could also cause ramifications for his earlier self--which would certainly affect his timeline.

"Don't worry, it's not a 'clap him in irons' type of illegal. It would preclude you from joining Starfleet, but you have your own ship to go back to. You might get a bit of a reaction from the rest of the Terran crew should they know, but not anything to worry about."

Julian smiles, as if he isn't talking about himself as well.

"It's fair, I'm actually not from this timeframe either."

Trance hasn't outright said why she felt the need to introduce him to Doctor Bashir right now, but she's not always inscrutable, and babbling about genetic engineering at the same time as she drags a guy over to talk to him is pretty transparent.

"I'm guessing one of the things you've heard about me is what that scan's going to show in my DNA," he says, reluctantly lying back down, since Trance doesn't give him much choice.

Relaxing is not so easily done. He doesn't even want Andromeda giving him a physical, let alone a doctor he's just met sitting in on this scan with Trance. But he's trying to be nice to Doctor Bashir. As nice as he can.

"What sort of a reaction?" he asks. "There's a Nietzschean from my crew here, too, and it's hard to miss that he's different, with the bone blades on his arms."

He wants to know what he and Tyr are getting into here.

"It took me a while to find her," Rory says, frowning. "I'd been with our friend, the Doctor, searching as many planets as we could, hoping we'd find her somewhere."

He shrugs, concentrating on the task at hand. Once the preparations are done, he presses the hypospray device against Angeal's neck and presses down. There's a hiss of air as the injection is transferred into his body.

"I could have sworn he was right behind me, but something must have happened."

"Well, nice to meet you Clay. Can I ask you to lie back on the bed so I can get some readings? Is there anything you would like fixed before we begin? Any back pain or scars?" Trance inquired.

"The computer just needs to record your DNA, species information, organ placement--so we can put you back together if we need to. Is that alright? I'd also like to give you a vaccination against some of the diseases here that you may not have immunity too, and an antibiotic."

"No back pain." he has scars, many scars. Devulging that would be to expose his kind, his pack. He tries to get out of this, "Medical exams are against my religion." he says this as if he expects this to be enough. Though really he doesn't expect it to work, at least not here. He is feeling confined, trapped.

The Doctor stays silent for the scanning, letting his vitals show to the young man without incident. His attention is keenly on the device itself, a clever little two piece device that was in Rorys hand. It was strange thinking this was not the universe he originated from, because he could easily see the logical step between this device and his own sonic screwdriver.

"Tell me, Rory," The Doctor began. "What am I like? I mean, persinality wise? Regeneration is a tricky thing and sometimes things go astray. But tell me without referencing events, if you could."

Trance pointed to a couple things on the medical cpu, in case Bashir ever needed to patch Dylan up and she wasn't around. "He's a Heavy Worlder, like I was telling you before. He weighs more than the average human, his musculature and bone structure is denser to accommodate the increase in gravity on Heavy Grav worlds. But, his metabolism is also higher--this can mean any reaction due to medications or illness can spread faster in him. "

She turned to give Dylan a precocious smile. "You'll be happy he knows this. What if you need medical attention and I'm not around? " Besides, Bashir was the one doctor here she hadn't pissed off. Trance grabbed a hypo from the tray beside her and stuck Dylan with it without warning. "He's also the world's biggest baby sometimes. There. All done."

Julian is truly more interested in the medical scan than he is anything else. He's seen his own, of course, and that of Jack, Patrick, Lauren, and Sarina. All five of them could pass for a completely normal human, were it not for their little...quirks. Julian indeed had for many years. The comparisons between himself and Dylan are fascinating to him.

"We usually warn people before we go jabbing them with things," Julian says genially. He's amused by it, though. And grateful his Captain isn't so difficult.

And as for Dylan's question:

"Some people may be a bit uncomfortable with the idea. Earth doesn't have a fantastic history with genetic manipulation in this universe, I'm afraid. But a Starfleet officer should be rather more open-minded about it."

Julian's friends had been. Then again, they'd also known him for years before his secret came out.

"It shouldn't make for much more than awkward conversation should the topic come up. Your Nietzchean crewman might actually find this applies less to him because of the obvious physical differences. If you do encounter any such problems though, anyone making you feel unwelcome, please don't hesitate to come to me."

He tilted his head to the side to give Rory a bit of room to administer the spray. It felt cool rather than the customary pricking of hypodermic needles which was a lot better and safer to prevent contamination. Little things like that tend to worry Angeal.

Once the quick task was done, Angeal relaxed and listened, his smile faded in favor of concern. "I see. Maybe he's looking for you too. Don't lose hope. You found your wife, maybe you'll find your friend too."

While the Genesis he met here wasn't the Genesis he grew up with, they were still the same person in his mind. He stood up from the medical bed and offered a friendly smile. "Sometimes, even if we're not sure where those we love are, we just know that they're okay."

"I have a healing factor, I do not get sick." Laura has survived explosions and the Legacy virus. At five foot one she has to look up at him but it doesn't make her stare any less intense.

"I am Laura." Or X or girl or weapon. She much prefers Laura now, it makes her feel almost human. She extends the claws towards him and offers them up for examination. "The metal would poison me without the healing factor."

[personal profile] not_gaheris 2014-07-28 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
This was bound to be the biggest waste of time ever. Really, he couldn't think of anything more pointless than making sure a Nietzschean didn't get sick or wasn't carrying around some horrible pathogen. Rhade was used to physicals, one didn't get to be Admiral of the Home Guard by running away from the infirmary, but at least there everyone knew how to treat a Nietzschean. And if this really was 2366, well, he'd be immune to everything.

This was ridiculous. Rolling his eyes at his escort, the man took a seat and waited.

"This is stupid."

"Trance!" He jerks, reflexively, as if flinching away from the hypo after it's been administered could actually make stop it hurting.

"Apparently we don't warn people if we're Trance," he complains, rubbing at his arm. Both Trance and Doctor Bashir seem to find this whole thing far more amusing than Dylan. Some bedside manner his medic's got.

She might have a point, though. In a world where there's no such thing as a Heavy Worlder, it's probably a good idea to have somebody around who knows what they're going to be dealing with. Doctor Bashir sure seems fascinated by it if the way he's staring at the computer is any indication.

"Almost every human in my world's genetically enhanced in one way or another. Everyone on my crew is except Harper."

He's not fond of the concept of anyone holding his family background against him. Being a Heavy Worlder is just part of who he is, a legacy from his high-G shuttle pilot mother to go with his skill as a pilot and his love of flying the stars.

"My mother was a high gravity pilot from a family of Heavy Worlders. It's not even like I've been engineered, I just inherited the genes."
heartofasun: (Oh really?)

Trance gave her Captain a smirk, considering this was the third time she'd stabbed him with a hypo in the last twenty-four hours.

"Don't be such a child, it doesn't even hurt." Of course, this was Dylan. He was convinced hypos hurt. And with Dylan, stubbornness was sometimes the only thing that kept him alive. "Would you like a lolipop? Make it all better?" She was amused, so sue her.

"I wouldn't warn him. It gives him a chance to come up with a plan." It was true. Dylan always had a plan. Even if it meant just getting out of sickbay.

"Remember Dylan, not only are we in another universe, but we're thousands of years in the past. There are bound to be differences. In this universe, their version of Nietzscheans didn't prevail. They didn't procreate and entrench themselves so deeply within the Known Worlds. There's bound to backlash." Dylan could understand that. Certainly there was backlash when the Nietzscheans betrayed the Commonwealth. Just ask Harper.

"But speaking of difference--and Harper, I'm a little concerned about his immune system--or lack there of-- in this universe. I've talked to Dr. Bashir about some options on how to manage it."

"I know, believe me. I'm not condoning it, just giving you a forewarning." Julian is helpless to change the law--he'd been granted an exception, but it wasn't through any action of his own. Captain Sisko had fought that battle for him. And it wasn't the time nor place to fight it again.

Dylan had noticed the interest he'd taken in the readings, Julian observed. He hoped he wasn't coming off as rude. He just hadn't ever had the chance to look at data like this.

"Harper, right. Trance showed me your nanobots--impressive little things, certainly. We don't use them nearly as much. But combined with some medications we have available we should be able to keep him out of Sickbay. I'd rather he not have to visit weekly with the Ankaran flu or some such thing."
heartofasun: (no way!)

[personal profile] heartofasun 2014-07-28 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Really? Well in that case we'll just have to keep you in quarantine." She paused a minute for dramatic effect. "Or, you could tell me why you're so nervous and what you're hiding and maybe skip that part."

Trance set up the hypo, as if completely ignoring the excuse he just gave her. "Did you know last time someone told me that I had to kill him?" Not entirely true, but he did die. "He attacked the ship and the crew. You're not planning on doing that are you?"
psychowolf: wolfforest (wolfforest)

[personal profile] psychowolf 2014-07-28 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Clay studies her and an imperceptible sigh escapes him. "No" he says bluntly, he isn't planning on attacking the ship. He just doesn't disclose what he is. Nor is he concerned about her killing him.

"I'm required by law to kill anyone who discovers what I am." he says plainly. Perhaps now she can understand why he doesn't want to be scanned.

heartofasun: (got better)

[personal profile] heartofasun 2014-07-28 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh that's okay. You can kill me if you need to. But I still need to give you the exam. You can kill me after."

Trance really didn't seem bothered by this. In fact, she pulled a curtain further down just in case he really did feel the need to kill her and she didn't want anyone getting arrested for something as silly as this.

[personal profile] psychowolf 2014-07-28 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Clay crosses his arms as he considers his options. He takes a few moments then decides that he will consult with Jeremy when he gets back before killing anyone, especially since she isn't human.

"How many humans will have access to these record?"

Clay doesn't like killing, he takes no pleasure from it, he does it when required.
heartofasun: (Gold shrug)

[personal profile] heartofasun 2014-07-29 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Just the medical staff on the ship. But a far number of them aren't human. I'm actually not sure. I can put a note in your file that you'd prefer a non-human medic."

She finished loading the hypospray and tried to guide the man over to the biobed. "Lie down okay?" She gave him a look, pressing her lips together. "If you kill me, it wont stick. I'll just get back up again. But you can if it will make you feel better. Now, do you want to tell me or should I guess?"

Trance actually smiled at that option. "We can play a game."
psychowolf: wolfhead (wolfhead)

[personal profile] psychowolf 2014-07-29 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Clay nods, "Put the note." he doesn't say please or thank you because that just isn't him.

He shakes his head, "That isn't necessary. At least not without Jeremy's order. You're not human." which is why he is so confused about what to do. He is also curious about the dying not sticking, that just sounds unnatural to him.

"I'm a werewolf." he is proud of this fact he's just trying to follow werewolf law. Werewolf law just doesn't cover being dropped off in the future, surrounded by alien's and such.

He rolls up his sleeve and presents his arm for the hypo.

Clay was in good company then. It sounded weird to pretty much everyone she met. Trance put a note in Clay's file, specifying non-human medical personal only. But when he mentioned he was a werewolf, she furrowed her brows together.

"I'm afraid I'm not familiar with your kind. But it's not a problem. I've treated lots of people whose species I've never met before." As long as Clay was carbon based, Trance wouldn't have a problem.

"Actually it goes on your neck."She pressed the hypo to his neck and pressed the button.

[personal profile] psychowolf 2014-07-29 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Clay let her inject him, glad that she warned him that she was going for his neck, there may have been a twitch of his muscles out of reflex, instinctual to protect his neck.

"I am both human and wolf." he says in case that might help with the medical stuff. "I change completely into a wolf a couple times a week." he rolls down his sleeve, recovering the very well sculpted arms.

"Is there anything I need to know? Medications you can't have? Does anything bad happen if you can't change? Is it a necessity?" Trance asked, putting the hypo away and finishing up the scan. "This is just recording your DNA in case we need to put you back together. Actually, could I ask you to transform? So I can get a better scan of your wolf form?"

"I don't know" he says honestly. "I don't usually need drugs."

"I need to change at least once a week. If I push the change then I get temperamental and eventually the wolf will come out."

Clay looks around, "The transformation takes a while." and he is vulnerable during that time. He doesn't know Trance, not that well. He doesn't know what Jeremy would want him to do.
