On Valentine's Day, one can enter a lounge on a spaceship docked outside a beautiful blue jewel of a planet (which can clearly be seen out the windows), and see that it's been made over with candles and linen tablecloths and red rose centrepieces. It's not anything as grand as Q would do. Amy is using the romance of the room: the windows looking out on Pacifica, soft lighting, and like last year she's even managed to find a trio to play music in one corner of the room: flute, cello, and violin.

Walking in, there's a sign:

♥    BLIND DATING TONIGHT, 19:00*    ♥
Party to follow at 23:00*!

A ginger beauty in a red dress is standing by with a sheet of those name tags you stick on your shirt that say HELLO MY NAME IS ______ and a clipboard of seat assignments. Not all the tables are taken (the woman in charge, Guinan, insisted the room stay open for other patrons), so those meant for the blind dates have numbers tucked in the centrepieces. Amy's taken mostly tables around the outside of the room, where there is the best view of space and a little privacy.

Table 1 - Luna Lovegood & Noriko Ashida
Table 2 - Ed & Alex Rogan
Table 3 - Kale McCallum & The (10th) Doctor
Table 4 - Trever McCallum & Ishka
Table 5 - Olan'atar & T'Pol
Table 6 - General Chang & Aeryn Sun
Table 7 - Marion Scotts & Thor Odinson
Table 8 - The (12th) Doctor & Aidan Nichols
Table 9 - Islington & Merlin
Table 10 - Deanna Troi & DJ
Table 11 - Kristen Kringle & Booker DeWitt
Table 12 - Jacqueline "Jackal" Egret & Dimo
Table 13 - Bob Fraser & Cridhe
Table 14 - Grainne O'Brian & Harry Dresden
Table 15 - Thea Queen & Kitt

If your name is on her list, you'll get a name tag and a little card with your table number on it. "Here you go. The bar's open while you wait, I bribed Guinan t' have out the real stuff, so you can tell her I sent you. No gettin' carried away, though. And no funny business, you treat your date with respect or I'll have you by the ear before night's out. I'll be 'round if you need anything."

Once everyone's been checked off her list, she's going to settle at the bar and have a drink. Match-making's hard business, but each time she does it she gets a little sense of satisfaction. Once the dates are over for the evening, she's looking forward to kicking off her heels and turning this place into a dance party.

* That's 7PM and 11PM respectively!

The first thought of the archaeologists working in the lab is clearly for the artifacts they're cataloguing--look how they scramble to secure anything nearby, that the fragile pottery won't shatter on the floor, that the objects that had survived the extinction of their makers won't meet their destruction here. They've been through tremors before, this is all routine...

Except it isn't. Not this time.

The background hum that people barely notice until it's gone--the power, the ventilation system, the computer equipment that lines the walls--falls silent, though it's hard to realize at first because of the rumbling of the ground.

And the shriek and groan of the structural metal of the room, as part of the floor is now three feet lower and a few inches over from where it used to be.

And the crash as a bookcase, wrenched away from a wall that is no longer where it was, topples to the floor.

And the cries of the scientists now pinned beneath it.

And the faint crackle as the emergency backup kicks in, so the scan in progress won't be lost. This is a research facility, after all.

"Welcome, everyone, to geothermal field two-nine-one," Dr. Johanna Sk'Amor says, once everyone has gathered in the entryway.

The shuttlebay the group has just left is behind them, while the large entrance to the facility is directly ahead. The building is quite spacious, and despite the high volume of visitors no one is cramped for space while standing here. It's like a museum lobby, with fixtures in the center of the room and wings on either side. While the design is not as bright and clean as the Enterprise, the high ceilings and white walls give a feeling of spaciousness. To the right is the main observation room, where the convex wall making up one full corner of the drilling facility is primarily floor-to-ceiling windows. The vistas beyond are stunning: tall, grey mountains and low valleys, all covered with snow. To the left is a winding staircase that leads to an upper level, and beyond that are several labs.

"This is one of five scientific outposts located on Alemar III," the doctor continues. "At one time we had seven, but two have been destroyed by earthquakes. Alemar III is highly geologically active, so our remaining facilities have been reinforced to withstand even the most devastating natural disasters. There's nothing to worry about, our engineers are some of the best in the quadrant, but if you feel some tremors while you look around just keep in mind that this is normal.

"Two of our outposts are at the polar north and south of the planet, while the other three, this one included, are evenly spread across the globe. Our staff is small, only about ten scientists and five archaeologists, and enough engineers to keep everything in working order. In all, the entire planet only has about ninety occupants at any given time. It's rare that we're able to entertain guests.

"If you'll follow me, I'll show you some of the work we accomplish here."

[ooc: This post is open to those who signed up for our game plot only! As it's being run party post style, all characters are encouraged to tag in and mingle; since teams have not been divided yet, any participating character can tag anyone else, you don't have to stick only to those on your teams. You may also tag in as many top level threads as you choose if you're doing the full tour, just be sure your character ends up in the room where their team will be positioned for the rest of the plot (for those who will be divided in the mines due to cave-ins, the main mine connects to many other rooms and alcoves, so simply tag in under the Main Mine subheading and have your characters move around the different passageways to explore. Wherever rocks fall, that's where the rooms will be divided). Threadhopping and backtagging are encouraged! This post will remain open for as long as it takes all characters to tag in.]

You might say The Doctor doesn't learn well. The Security Chief would definitely say so, and has. Since The Doctor keeps not asking for an escort to Cargo Hold #7; I.e., His Tardis. To continually keep himself appraised of that situation, and to have another theory about getting back in come up short.

It ends with snippiness and an escort back to 'Appropriate Areas,' with reminders that all he has to do is ask and people would be glad to take him there. Mostly, it's a lot of frowning on the poor Kligon's part. But so long as all he does is frown and growl threateningly, and remind the Doctor of a particularly focused and frustrated Sontaran, The Doctor doesn't see a reason to change what he's doing.

They might have rules, this Starfleet, but they weren't his.

No insult to them, but he answered to a much higher set of standards.
Ones that stretched from the beginning of time to the end of it, and everywhere else.

Both of which are why he's sitting in Ten Forward -- on a window ledge, without his trench coat today, but one of his colorful trainers on the ledge with one knee up, balancing his PADD on his thigh and knee -- working on it with his sonic screwdriver. Again. Getting into more places he's likely not supposed to be, nor ever going to go about asking for.

"Captain's Log, Stardate 43517.0: After a long delay in completing our mission to Alemar III, the Enterprise has finally come into orbit directly above the drilling facilities and welcome center run by Dr. Sk'Amor and her crew. An away team lead by Commander Riker has been dispatched to see the scientists safely to their destination. Due to the intense electromagnetic field surrounding the planet, beaming down is not an option, so all supplies and personnel must be transported by shuttle. The field also interrupts regular communications between the away team and the ship, which makes waiting for the shuttles to return particularly arduous, given our current troubles with The Q.

Commander Riker has managed to get a message through to the
Enterprise, informing us that Dr.'s Sk'Amor and Nantor wish to thank us for the Federation's assistance in undergoing their current objectives, by opening up their facilities to guests for the next few hours. According to Commander Riker, they are quite insistent. Almarians value hospitality and gift-giving as signs of friendship, and refusing could be interpreted as an insult. Against my better judgment, I have allowed some guests to travel to Alemar III in the returning shuttles, where they will join members of the original away team who have remained behind. My hope is that the brief sojourn to the drilling facilities will stave off the growing unrest of some of our trapped guests, as well as solidify relationships between the Almarians and the Federation for years to come."

A ship-wide announcement has been made to all guests aboard the Enterprise. Alemar III is largely uninhabited, but the facilities run by Dr. Sk'Amor are very nice and expansive, safe for guests to tour. Someone will be happy to show them around for a few hours, if they would like to disembark.

They will be leaving from the main shuttlebay on Deck 4 in two hours.

[ooc: Arrivals post to follow in about two hours. Picard isn't hanging around to thread, but if there were any players who wanted to establish their characters as leaving the ship, feel free to use this post to write your exit, or to say goodbye to loved ones who are hanging back on the Enterprise. Only those who signed up for the game plot will be leaving the ship.]

They are entering their third month of this nonsense, and Lieutenant Worf will never admit that the increased activity and responsibility is ... thrilling. He is as stone-faced as always, glaring out over the assembled crowd without a hint of happiness. The medical team have cleared through a new crop of passengers, all needing permanent lodgings. So Ten Forward is where you will find yourselves today, staring down the barrel at an unhappy Klingon.

As chief of security, it is Worf's responsibility to instruct everyone on the correct behavior and protocols needed for life aboard the Enterprise. It is his duty, and the captain's instructions, so he will handle this the honorable way. As he has done this before, he has a speech prepared:

"The computer will instruct you on where all cleared-for-access decks are. You only have to ask where the area you are trying to get to is located, and it will give you clear directions. Do not visit any restricted areas. The bridge, engine rooms, transporter rooms, and all command centers are off-limits.

"With that in mind, there are a few rules you must obey before I give you your new assignments. One, do not discharge any weapon while on the Enterprise. Two, do not assault any other passenger aboard in any way; that includes injury, death, or violating their personal rights. Three, do not tamper with the operational procedures of the ship. Four, do not steal items or technology from the ship. Five, do not interrupt any official areas of the ship without proper authorization, and do not invade the privacy of other guest or crew quarters.

"Copies of the Prime Directive will be made available to all of you, and placed in each room. As you are not Starfleet officers, you are not obligated to abide by this rule; however, it is important you understand why we do.

"Now, the rooms," he rumbles, reading off the list of quarters, their location, and the guests who will be sharing them.

Deck 07, Section 4
Room # 0741 - Seamus Harper and Clayton Danvers
Room # 0742 - KITT's hologram and Andrew McKee
Room # 0743 - Ginny Weasley and Topher Brink
Room # 0744 - Irian t'Aumne and Henry Gold
Room # 0745 - TWO SECURITY PERSONNEL
Room # 0746 - Tyr Anasazi and Telemachus Rhade
Room # 0747 - Chase Collins and Angeal Hewley
Room # 0748 - Dylan Hunt and Lucie Miller
Room # 0749 - Simon Tam and The Doctor (Eight)
Room # 0750 - TWO SECURITY PERSONNEL
Room # 0751 - Kaylee Frye and Laura Kinney

Deck 08, VIP Quarters
Room #0142 - Kathryn Janeway and Jonathan Archer
Room #0143 - Gul Dukat and Tora Ziyal
Room #0144 - James T. Kirk and John Sheppard

"I will remain here to answer questions," Worf concludes. "And my team will be standing by to escort you where you need to be."

The list is also displayed on a PADD, where people can refer to it if they need to.

[ooc: Open log for building CR with new roommates and meeting neighbors, "party post" style! Everyone should participate if and when they can, so they can get acquainted with who they will be rooming with for at least the next several months. Rooms are aligned the way they would be in a typical hotel: odd numbers on the left, even numbers on the right (so 0711 and 0713 will be next door neighbors, while 0712 is directly across the hall). There is an OOC post in the OOC comm where players can connect with questions, and where we'll post more details about the rooms themselves, so check in over there. If you need to ask security questions, or need them to swing by another thread, just put "Security officer, please!" in the subject line of your tag, and the mods will send someone to you ASAP.]

New guests have arrived on the Enterprise, and that means Lieutenant Worf and his security detail are busy once again bringing them to see Dr. Crusher. Sickbay is fairly typical for a hospital. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you could see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones.

As for the staff, they're all well-groomed and friendly. As a matter of fact, all personnel look harmless. Well, perhaps excluding the sun avatar, but Trance Gemini is as skilled as the Starfleet officers.

"All right, come in," one of them calls out as you enter. "Don't be shy. It's just a scan and a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

Probably.

[ooc: Same rules as before: this is an open log for everybody. Tagging isn't mandatory, but going to sickbay is. So if you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. For those who are tagging, we have Julian Bashir, Trance Gemini, and Rory Williams on deck, so please specify in the subject line of your tag who you would like. Beverly Crusher can be available if needed, but the player may not always be available. If you would like more details about sickbay, here's the wiki page. If you haven't made your intro yet, you can assume the doctors will want to see your character shortly after they arrive.]

Captain's log, supplemental: we are approximately one solar day's journey from Alemar III. At our current speed, we should arrive there before nightfall tomorrow. Commander La Forge reports no continuing problems with our engines, so it would appear that my conversation with Q was not without purpose. Though there have been no further incidents, the crew is preparing for any eventuality. This will be the first time near an alien world for many of our visitors, and no doubt they will be curious.

I have taken it upon myself to pay a visit to Ten Forward. While I trust that my crew have been taking good care of the situation, I find that it often puts minds at ease to see the captain engaged in what is happening. Hopefully, the evening will pass without incident.

Captain Picard enters the room in his standard uniform. He lingers at the door long enough to appraise the situation, and moves on to the bar.

"Just tea, thank you. Earl Grey," he says, wishing to keep his mind clear.

There is a female Captain America on this ship from an alternate dimension.

His partner of the last two years has informed him she's actually 86 years old.

He's been running along the Volga River, Russia, in 1936, and racing motorcycles through places he's never seen before, all without leaving the ship.

His best friend (deceased) has arrived, a POW for the last seventy years thanks to HYDRA, and they've done things to him that have left him changed.

There's no way off this ship.

Steve's at the heavy bag in the gymnasium, the same place he's been for the last two and a half hours. It gives him somewhere to think, something to do, a goal to accomplish in some fancy tin can where he's about as useless as a white crayon. His mind keeps rolling back to Bucky, stuck on repeat, wondering if it's his fault, his dimension, his timeline, his world, just wondering if he left his best friend to die.

'For years... There has always been a mission. How do you sit still on this ship and do nothing?'

His blows fall harder, angrier, until the heavy bag comes off its chain with a sickening creak.

[ooc: Steve's working out some stuff, but I promise he's totally approachable. He won't try to murderate you. Honest. ^^; Grey text is taken from this thread.]

The really amazing thing about the Holodeck isn't how real it looks -- Sharon's seen plenty of special effects that mimic reality just fine -- but how real it feelsIt's like a life-model decoy of the real world, assuring her brain and senses that she really is in Yellowstone National Park, staring at the entrance to a trail that will lead her, somehow, up an incline.

She wonders if this fake climb can give her the same workout a real one would, but it's not really an question up for consideration: she's been avoiding the gym except for the treadmills and the machines, and she can't even request a training program in here, in case Rogers or someone else who only knows her as Kate Newton, the harmless nurse next door, walks in.

But a hike should be safe. If nothing else, it'll give her a minute to organize her thoughts and plans, before she has to get back on duty.

Clay exits his Porsche Boxster in the campus parking lot. As the front door slams shut, there is a flash of light. His muscles tense. When the light subsides, Clay lowers his arm and stands at the ready for attack. He uses his ears and nose to be aware of his surroundings, smelling and listening for approach as well as signs of his environment. He hears the sounds of glasses clinking, people laughing around him but not next to him, and the smell of food and drink all about. He finds this disconcerting given that he was in a parking lot seconds ago. Already on alert when his eyes clear, his head pivots and rotates around the room, orienting himself to this new place.

And so for the moment standing in the middle of Ten Forward is a man: lean, six foot tall, cropped blond curls, and wearing a sports jacket and jeans. Someone may want to tell him what is going on, though it would be best to approach with care.

[OOC: Clay is a werewolf, if your character isn't human then Clay will be able to smell it. Though he can't smell if you are a magic user. FYI, can hear conversations across the room. Thank you.]
