[Sickbay]: Round Three scans and vaccines

New guests have arrived on the Enterprise, and that means Lieutenant Worf and his security detail are busy once again bringing them to see Dr. Crusher. Sickbay is fairly typical for a hospital. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you could see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones.

As for the staff, they're all well-groomed and friendly. As a matter of fact, all personnel look harmless. Well, perhaps excluding the sun avatar, but Trance Gemini is as skilled as the Starfleet officers.

"All right, come in," one of them calls out as you enter. "Don't be shy. It's just a scan and a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

Probably.

[ooc: Same rules as before: this is an open log for everybody. Tagging isn't mandatory, but going to sickbay is. So if you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. For those who are tagging, we have Julian Bashir, Trance Gemini, and Rory Williams on deck, so please specify in the subject line of your tag who you would like. Beverly Crusher can be available if needed, but the player may not always be available. If you would like more details about sickbay, here's the wiki page. If you haven't made your intro yet, you can assume the doctors will want to see your character shortly after they arrive.]

When Angeal received the information from security detail and one of them happened to be a very large Klingon, he wasn't about to put up a fight. He was cautious about the scan, even though he was accustomed to labs. He didn't exactly trust lab technicians even though he was aware that they were medical personnel. In his mind, he lumped the two together until he was certain that this medical call wasn't for experimental reasons.

He sat on the bed and waited, while he questioned everything he saw. "What is the scan for?" He asked while he eyed the device while he remained as polite as possible.

He wasn't human, and he knew it. His retracted wings would show up on the scan, his heightened senses, healing and mutations would be known among the staff and most likely documented. He was prepared to answer questions as well, considering that they most likely would see the similarities between him and Genesis, though he was unaware how much they knew.

He was weary of tests of any kind, especially should they choose to draw blood, though he was uncertain about the vaccines or what they would do to his own physiology.

Well, this is quite the nice clean place. Nice and proper for a medical center for a ship as large as the Enterprise seems to be. Plus, it seems like new arrivals such as himself would be required to be put through an awkward number of medical tests for any number of infectious diseases and physical capability. And since the Other Doctor had gone through it it may as well be a good idea to go and get the act over with.

And the best way to get this over with is to go and bother a medical officer in the middle of something. He had to find the man in charge and while Lucie already said she was going to go find the man he would still want to talk to the Captain himself.

"Hello, I'm the Doctor. May I talk to someone please?"

Henry hadn't frequented the hospital in Storybrooke. He'd been a careful kid but even that didn't stop boys being boys. So that's what he'd expected when called to sickbay. What he saw was very different and he swallowed, still clutching his bag to his chest as if someone was going to take it away from him. He waited until called and then hopped up onto the biobed, wary of everything but curious at the same time.

If anyone who's just been pulled onto this ship understands the need for a thorough medical checkup for the new arrivals, it's Dylan. Dylan, who'd been playing the good Samaritan and pulled a whole bunch of refugees off a damaged drift thinking he could help save them only to find his ship overrun with zombies, including Trance, and himself and Beka infected.

Oh yeah. He gets it.

That doesn't mean he's particularly happy about showing up for shots. He hates shots, and the reassurance that it's 'just a hypospray' does nothing to improve his mood.

(He hates hypos, too.)

So when Dylan arrives in sickbay -- eying the security detail, who really don't need to escort him, but who, again, he understands -- he doesn't wait for the next available medic.

Instead, as soon as Trance's back is turned, he heads straight for the bed nearest her and settles himself on its edge, hands pressed into its surface, and prepares a smile that's more dry resignation than anything else.

It's pretty damn hard to surprise Trance, and he probably won't, but that doesn't stop him trying.

"Hi."

Rory approaches Angeal looking otherwise completely like anyone else in the sickbay. No special uniform, no special coat or colours. He's not a doctor and he isn't going to pretend to be, but he's a damn good nurse, and in the sickbay helping out, they're all on a more or less equal level.

He's got a medical tricorder in hand and he glances up from it to take a good look at his first patient.

"Hello," he says. "Right. The scan is routine, just to collect some basic data for the system, see if you've got any diseases and that sort of thing that we ought to take care of first. It doesn't hurt or anything.

"Before I start, could I get your name?"

Rory is in the middle of doing some medical-whatsit: collecting data, putting names into the system, looking over scans, learning - when he hears a voice behind him speaking words that don't quite register at that precise moment.

And why would it? It's not as though he's expecting to hear anything particularly surprising after everything that's happened to him and Amy so far.

Except a name. That name.

... which Rory brushes off immediately as someone probably asking to see a doctor, because, hey. Look where they are.

He turns to the man dressed in period-clothing and offers him a friendly and approachable Nurse Rory smile.

"Hello," he starts. "You could talk to me. Are you ready for a quick scan?"

John Sheppard is a terrible patient, he hates to sit still longer than he's got to. He strides down to sickbay between the security, eager to get whatever battery of tests there are over with. The security doesn't bother him, hell he's ordered security details himself for people when an injury or an illness could be potentially hazardous.

"I wish there were hazmat suits onboard," he can be heard saying. That way he could have escaped quarantine sooner that. "You guys should look into that." He's pretty confident they will know what those are. This place has technology which is nearly as good as the ancients.

"Whose the lucky person who gets to give me the once over?"

There is an uneasy truce between Laura and her security detail. She's unsheathed her claws in her hands but as long as they don't touch her, she won't attack. Once the doors open to the sickbay she sheathes her claws. They have kept their word.

There is a small trickle of blood from where the claws pierce her skin. The holes themselves are almost closed over. It hurts. It does every time she uses them but she accepts this as normal.

"What does the hypospray contain?"
wear_tear_rust: (We'll see about that.)

[personal profile] wear_tear_rust 2014-07-23 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
The plain clothes helped out on a psychological level. No lab coat, no uniform and no arrogance to cause his feathers to ruffle, so to speak. He watched Rory's hand that held the scanning end of the tricorder at first until he was spoken to.

"Angeal Hewley. Can I have yours, please?" Striking up conversation took the edge off of anything.

Well, K'ehleyr was going to pose an interesting problem for whomever had the fortune to arrive at her bedside. She had no intention of being difficult, per se, but there would be a lot of factors that would make her pregnancy a tricky one.

She held a PADD containing what records had been established for herself and her child so that they wouldn't have to start completely from scratch.

Under normal circumstances Clay wouldn't be shy, but he is concerned about this medical exam. Its been drilled into him since he was eight that you don't let doctors exam you. He knows that there is something that is in his blood that makes it look like he has a disease but it's just the werewolf.

So Clay is standing in the medical center trying to avoid what he is trying to tell himself isn't inevitable, yet it is.

"Hello, there." Julian is a completely pleasant doctor, and he's not intending to take anything away from Henry--especially once he sees how tight he's holding that bag. "I'm Doctor Bashir. Your name is...?"

He's, generally speaking, pretty good with kids--if he does say so himself, anyway.
goldencobra: (S1 - Hmmm)

yay! ^^

[personal profile] goldencobra 2014-07-23 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hi. I'm Henry." He manages a smile out of politeness and realises, since this is all official and medical, he should probably give out his last name too. "Henry Gold."

He's half tempted to point out he's not related to the other Gold on board but that would be rude. So he doesn't.

"So what happens now?"
asklepian: (pic#7053853)

suppose that'd be me!

[personal profile] asklepian 2014-07-24 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Good afternoon, Ambassador," Julian takes the offered PADD with a smile and a nod of thanks. Pregnancies were tricky enough without the absolute havoc that different genetics between the parents could wreak, though K'ehleyr being half-Klingon made them infinitely easier to deal with.

"I'll get you out of here as quickly as I can, shall I?"
heartofasun: (Horns looking down)

This should be fun :)

[personal profile] heartofasun 2014-07-24 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Trance wasn't used to shy people onboard the Andromeda. Her crew was anything but shy. On the other hand, she was plenty used to people who avoided medical treatment. Like Dylan. Or evil entities pretending to be Wayist monks with a religious objection to medicine.

Clay was lucky in that regard--and Trance was over 5 billion years old. Chances are she wouldn't care if you were a werewolf. She's probably seen something just like it, somewhere.

"Hi, I'm Trance. What's your name?"

On the other hand if Clay was put off by shimmery, glittery, golden skin and a head of red braided dreadlocks with horns, he might be in trouble.
heartofasun: (hard)

Have a 5 billion year old sun!

[personal profile] heartofasun 2014-07-24 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Trance was getting her fill of terrible patients, so it was okay. She had already stabbed Dylan with a hypo when he wasn't looking. All things considered, it could be worse. No one had tried to run away from her yet.

"I'm Trance--and I am pretty lucky. You should see me at poker.Or any of those games with wheels or dice." It wasn't cheating if you knew where the dice were going to end up. Or...helped create a future where that would happen. It was just using all your talents. Right? The casino owners tended not to see it that way though. Usually around the time she started having fun. "Who might you be?"
heartofasun: (I see what you did there!)

Re: Trance (with pre-arranged threadjacking by Julian :D)

[personal profile] heartofasun 2014-07-24 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Trance turned at the sound of Dylan's voice, and gave him a bright and cheerful smile....and then proceeded to stab him with a hypo. It was best to get him unprepared--and preferably not looking. Dylan was a whiner. He was fine with energy blasts, mauling from Magog, knife wounds, blood loss so severe it nearly killed him, but a hypo? Whined like a child.

She jotted that down in his file while she remembered, before replying to him.

"Hello. Fancy meeting you here."

He wasn't happy. Dylan so wasn't happy. He didn't want to be here. Probably even more now that she surprise stabbed him. But if there was one thing she wanted to do, it was not expose the rest of the sickbay to whiny Dylan when he didn't want a shot. He even ran Andromeda ragged trying to get him to submit to a physical. And as an AI, running ragged is tough. Dylan was talented.

Well she certainly isn't human so that helps. He has noticed non-humans on board, but still this isn't right to him.

"Clay." there is no nice to meet you or anything as unnecessary as that.

Clay doesn't know what to make of shimmery, glittery, golden skin, so he will hold of on making a judgement.

"Excellent! I am a new arrival, myself and companion as well, and it was recommended to me that I come here and get a check-up." The Doctor smiled at the man helping him out. Quite the proper nursing type he was. "I should inform you though: I am not human, although I look quite like it. I'm of a bicardial species, extremely long lived and prone to changes in our physiology."

There was an urge to ask the man if he knew any other species like that. There may be a species similar to the Time Lords here in this univerwe, at least physiologically, but that's not why he was here.

"May I inquire as to how long this will take? I still need to familiarize myself with the ship as a whole."

"Er -"

Rory's mind is suddenly a jumble of thoughts, an attempt parse the man's words into some semblance of sense because everything he's saying sounds familiar ... and yet the man is clearly unfamiliar to him.

But he understands. Every word of it, on its own, or maybe from the mouth of one chinny man with a fondness for fezzes and bowties, Rory understands 'bicardial' and 'extremely long-lived' and 'prone to changes in our physiology'.

"Um. Not - not long," he finds himself saying almost distantly, before he clears his throat, recomposes himself, and ... then frowns. "It's just a quick scan and -

He has the hypospray device in one hand, but it's the claws he'd suddenly spotted that interest him.

(And, maybe, make him a bit nervous.)

He shudders inwardly and dreaded that he would have to respond to it. He lowered his chin just enough in his thoughts with a heavy sigh.

"Efficient, I'll grant you that. How familiar are you with genetic experimentation, Mister Williams?" His voice remained calm through his otherwise apprehensive thoughts.

Rory raises an eyebrow, but he shrugs, still interested.

"Nothing beyond the basic topics of things like cloning, GMOs and genetic therapy, I'll admit," he says, inviting Angeal to continue explaining.

Most of his knowledge, of course, is theoretical. He doesn't exactly have many chances for first-hand experience in his field and that's never bothered him.

No matter how harmless the sickbay may look — and Irian has been in a Federation sickbay before, she has a general idea of what it ought to look like — it does nothing at all for the feeling of acute discomfort that crawls down her spine to settle in the pit of her stomach. Ridiculous, to feel nervous about a routine medical examination, but knowing that doesn't stop her hands from sweating or her heart from racing just that much too fast.

She stops on crossing through the doorway, shoving down the urge to turn around and walk right back out. No one here has any intent to harm her, as far as she is aware, and the medical equipment here is nothing like the instruments of torture Hakeev and his cronies used on her all those months ago; she takes a breath, steeling herself, and moves further into the room, glancing around. All she can hope is that the apprehension she's feeling isn't obvious on her face.
