Ever since she'd first encountered Sariss, Mara had found herself curious about the woman. She had power, and there was something about her that she found herself drawn towards. Perhaps it was because the power she'd felt in her during their duel felt somewhat familiar to her. Mara had spent her life growing up around the Emperor and Darth Vader. Sariss was different from both of them, but the power she held, the way the Dark Side seemed to touch her, was familiar.

And Mara wanted to know more.

Mara had looked up in the PADD what room Sariss was in, but before she went to look for her, she sat and tried to focus on the Force, tried to see if she could locate Sariss through it. Perhaps the more she focused and used the Force, the more of it she could utilize in time. It took time and uninterrupted concentration, but Mara thought she could sense Sariss' presence. It was muted, certainly not as prominent as it had been while they had been dueling. And from what she could tell, Sariss seemed to be relatively closed. Their rooms were on the same deck, at least.

So Mara stood and, lightsaber clipped to her belt as it always was, set off to Sariss' room. Upon arrival, she hailed whomever was inside. With luck, it would be Sariss and not her roommate.

She had been far away from people, as much as possible. She still felt only glimmerings of her dark power, which meant that for the first time since she was a girl, she was vulnerable. This had not sat well with her.

And...there were Jedi here. She had yet to encounter them, but she could feel them. Not even the usual way so much as...well. A sense beyond the Force, like feeling the ripples caused by the water when a weight was dropped into it. Subtle, barely noticeable unless you were paying attention. And she had no idea if they had their full access to the Force or not. And it terrified her that they might, and she did not.

So she had immersed herself in this place. She had worked hard, picking up the letters. They were nearly the same as her aurebesh, at least in numbers - and then she had turned to study. The computer had been helpful in this regard. Voice control was a marvelous thing to aid her. Then she had read everything. Every story, every history she could find. She read them over and over, trying to remember everything. There was too much for that, too much by far - but she tried regardless.

Then she had discovered the holodeck. Her training had begun in earnest, then. Without the Force, there was little or no point to using her lightsaber. A Jedi without the Force was clumsy with a saber, a danger to everything. So she began to train with blades. Swords of all varieties, polearms - and a lovely weapon she had discovered known as the naginata.

She was there in the holodeck now, stalking around a rack of various weapons. She stepped forward, selecting a heavy two-handed sword. Something about mercenaries from Germany, centuries before. But it had a reassuring weight. She took it, taking a few testing swings.

"Computer. Opponent appropriate for this weapons, heavy difficulty."

And as a Turkish Janissary appeared and charged, and as she turned to battle, she waited for what would come next.

Perhaps she is in your holodeck time. Perhaps the noise of what will be a brief battle will draw you nearer. But she is there, waiting for a challenge.

It had taken time, but Obi-Wan had become familiar enough with the holodeck to create a program for the room. Of course, as a first attempt, it was a far cry from some of the programs he’d seen. There were no characters, no costumes or props, but it suited his needs nonetheless.

It was a perfect recreation of one of the numerous training rooms within the Jedi Temple, or at least as perfect as he could make it from memory. The walls were smooth metal, curved and fitted as though they were part of some seamless, organic whole. Familiar tapestries adorned the walls, displaying the tenets of the Jedi Code, and the hard, tile floor bore the symbol of the Order in a ruddy, red stone.

There were a few details he couldn’t fill in of course. The room was the right size, but it didn’t feel quite as … open, as the genuine article. That, and the symbol on the floor was the wrong shade. Too light, or too dark, though for the life of him he couldn’t remember which. But it was close enough. Close enough that, for a moment, it felt like he was home.

It was a welcome change of pace.

While everyone else was busy preparing for the holidays, Obi-Wan could be found in his tranquil recreation of home. The sapphire-blue blade of his lightsaber was lit for the first time since he'd arrived. Despite his lack of practice, he showed no signs of rust as he flowed with practiced ease from one stance to the next.

Now that Dr. Crusher's medical team has cleared a sizable number of new passengers for ship-wide access comes a big day for them: the day they receive their official introduction to the Enterprise. It starts with a tour of the ship and some background to the situation, delivered by Chief O'Brien.

The tour covers the main areas of the ship, and a history of recent events, Q-inspired and otherwise.

Once the tour has wrapped up, it normally falls on Worf's shoulders to assign the new arrivals quarters and instruct them on the correct behavior and protocols needed for life aboard the Enterprise. They have been gathered together in Ten Forward, and are awaiting further instructions on how to proceed. Unfortunately, Worf is still unavailable, and so instead it falls on Lt. Junior Grade Baldwin’s shoulders to do so, just as it did last month.

As he has done this before, Baldwin has a speech prepared:

"The computer will instruct you on where all cleared-for-access decks are. You only have to ask where the area you are trying to get to is located, and it will give you clear directions. Do not visit any restricted areas. The bridge, engine rooms, transporter rooms, and all command centers are off-limits.

"With that in mind, there are a few rules you must obey before I give you your new assignments. One, do not discharge any weapon while on the Enterprise. Two, do not assault any other passenger aboard in any way; that includes injury, death, or violating their personal rights. Three, do not tamper with the operational procedures of the ship. Four, do not steal items or technology from the ship. Five, do not interrupt any official areas of the ship without proper authorization, and do not invade the privacy of other guest or crew quarters.

"Copies of the Prime Directive will be made available to all of you, and placed in each room. As you are not Starfleet officers, you are not obligated to abide by this rule; however, it is important you understand why we do.

Looking down at the safety of his PADD, he says, "Room assignments are as follows," before reading off the list of quarters, their location, and the guests who will be sharing them.

Deck 7, Section 4

Room # 0717 - Mara Jade and Cridhe
Room # 0756 - Elim Garak
Room # 0759 - Ayesh
Room # 0761 - Hokuto Shijima and Felicity Smoak
Room # 0763 - Oliver Queen and Reinette
Room # 0771 - Quark and Amanda Graystone
Room # 0774 - Tasha Yar and Agatha Heterodyne

Deck 8

Section 1A - Subject Theta
Room # 0143 - Shadow and Willard Decker
Room # 0148 - Lacey Harwood and Charles Tucker III

Deck 9, Section 4

Room # 0911 - Ishka and Jim Shannon
Room # 0916 - Alex Summers and Emma Frost
Room # 0918 - Siri Tachi and Obi-Wan Kenobi
Room # 0919 - Luna Lovegood and Chris Halliwell
Room # 0924 - Padmé Amidala and Jadzia Dax

"I will remain here to answer questions," Baldwin says, managing to keep the reluctance out of his voice. "And the rest of the Security team will be standing by to escort you where you need to be."

The list is also displayed on a PADD, where people can refer to it if they need to.

[ooc: Open log for building CR with new roommates and meeting neighbors, "party post" style! Rooms are aligned the way they would be in a typical hotel: odd numbers on the left, even numbers on the right (so 0711 and 0713 will be next door neighbors, while 0712 is directly across the hall). There is a post in the OOC comm where players can connect with questions and find more details about the rooms themselves, so check in over there. If you need to ask security questions, or need them to swing by another thread, just put "Security officer, please!" in the subject line of your tag, and the mods will send someone to you ASAP. The tour given by Chief O'Brien is not open for tagging; you can assume your character had any basic questions answered. ]

Another world, another wretched hive of scum and villainy. He was under no illusions that about his contact's reputation, but he was hoping that for once the meeting wouldn't be in a place that left him feeling in desperate need of a shower. Or perhaps some place that his robes didn't draw quite as much ire. He could feel the eyes of half the cantina's patrons boring into him as he made his way towards the back; specifically to a waiting door guarded by a pike-wielding Weequay. As he approaches, the guard nods in acknowledgement, stepping aside. The door opens with a pneumatic hiss and Obi-Wan steps into--

A much nicer cantina. Gone are the greenish-brown walls stained with substances Obi-Wan isn't particularly inclined to try to identify. In their place is a sleek, tastefully lit bar colored in soft grays and blues.

Two things stand out head-and-shoulders over the changed interior and suddenly uniformed clientele. The first are the wide, sweeping windows on the far side of the room, showing off an endless starscape. The second was the quiet. Not from the room itself, the bar was full of the soft chatter you might expect, but from ... from everything. It was a strange, muted feeling that settled over him as though the ambient noise around him had died out, no matter what his ears were hearing. It took him a moment to figure out what it was, but when he the realization hit him, it sent a small shudder down his spine. The Force was quiet. Distant.

The sudden, jarring change made him take a step back, and instead of moving back into the grungy bar he'd came from, he stepped out into a well-lit corridor. Somehow, he'd gone from a Sriluurian cantina to a starship.

The obvious questions of 'why' and 'how' came to the fore of his mind, but no obvious answers. No disorientation beyond the initial rush either. That probably said a great deal about his life of late.

While there was a reaction in the room, brief glances of confusion at his robes, it seemed like most of the patrons were content to resume their conversations. Strangers must not be all that unusual. Hopefully his questions won't be all that strange either.

"Excuse me," He began, putting on a pleasant smile as he approached a group of strangers. "Sorry to interrupt, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me where I am. I seem to be a bit lost."

To say that Mara was on high alert was an understatement. She'd been ripped away from her vacation, which really hadn't been a vacation at all because she kept thinking about her assassination of Dequc and how it had gone too well. Simulations confirmed her doubts, that if it had truly been him she would've met more resistance. She needed to get this information to the Emperor, but that plan had been badly foiled by her suddenly appearing in this place.

At least Mara hadn't just drawn her weapons and started attacking or threatening people. She exercised the better part of valor at times, which clearly worked to her advantage. There was a time and a place for forceful interrogations. This was not one of those times. She was outnumbered, clearly, and the Force was diminished. Which was more than a little disconcerting to her. She didn't like feeling so distant from it, though she could tell it was still there.

For the time being, she was walking around the ship, taking care to not get into any restricted area, though making note of where they were for future reference if she needed it. Anyone who saw her would see a woman who was dressed like she meant business. To those who knew what they were looking at, there was a lightsaber hilt hanging at her left hip. She was a Force user, though call her a Jedi and she would bristle at it. Mara was definitely not a Jedi. She wasn't Sith either, but she had been trained by Palpatine. Mara was an assassin with aspirations to be Palpatine's Sith Apprentice if she could get rid of Darth Vader.

That was the other thing bothering Mara. She had a telepathic link, perhaps even a Force bond, to Palpatine which was decidedly lacking now. No matter how much she tried to reach out to him, she couldn't get anything back. She doubted he was hearing her at all. And all of this was problematic.
