techno_galen: Galen posing with staff (posing with staff)
[personal profile] techno_galen
Galen has had enough. He can't do most of the things he's used to. He doesn't know most of the things he's used to. He can't help or hinder. He doesn't know whether he's on the right side. His tech works erratically, with no obvious cause.

He's riding around on the turbolift, standing at the back, looking imposing all in black, with his staff held in one hand.

It helps him think. And he's stuck a probe to the wall opposite him. It will give him eyes in the back of his head, for the one thing he can be sure about is that his probes work when he is nearby. It bothers him that his probes only work when he is nearby.

Riding around on the turbolift will tell him when his tech stops. And when it stops, so will he - and then he'll find the source.

Should anyone else try to use this turbolift then he will use the opportunity to extract information from them. If enough people know a little, then after a while Galen will know a lot. And to put them off balance a little, whenever the doors open, he sends a little gust of wind from the turblift, out into the corridor.

ooc: If your character isn't going to say anything to Galen when they get in the lift, he will say something to them.

Enterprise's Head Botanist Keiko's Log, stardate 46172.364: My time on Pacifica was quite rewarding, and with the permission of a number of the locals, I have several new samples to study going forward... )

"Keiko's log, Stardate 46172.799,

"I have been working with these samples for hours. I have replanted all of the whole plants and have had my assistants working on properly labeling them with the information I was provided. The cuttings have been arranged and labeled for study. My hope is that Dancer, at least, will prove a fitting candidate for replanting in the Arboretum, however the evasiveness of the locals is making me hesitant. The more I think about it, the odder they seem to have been acting about it.

"And they aren't the only ones. Maybe I'm just tired. I should be tired, but I don't seem to be. I feel fine; happy, in fact. But it does seem as though everyone else has had either a little too much to drink or a little too little sleep. I understand that we are all excited to have had the chance to visit the planet and to gather samples, and it is exciting work studying them, however...

"I will be contacting Doctor Crusher if things do not change. There had been an incident on board the ship on Stardate 41209.2 where a widespread infection caused crew members to act as though they were intoxicated. We are all now inoculated against that, though, so whatever is happening now, while similar, does not seem as drastic or as quick to build. I will be setting this file to auto-send to Doctor Crusher if I have not canceled the command by 0800 tomorrow. I do not feel as though I am infected, of course, or I would have quarantined myself and my staff. It is always possible that they simply imbibed too much while on leave. Normally I might have an issue with this, but we've all been dealing with a lot recently, and there was a wedding. So long as everyone is sober and accounted for tomorrow, I will let it go. I'm in too good a mood to be angry, anyway.

"I have been working with Beachrunner mostly, though the others have been focusing on Dancer. I want all eyes on that one to unravel the mystery as soon as possible. Miles came in about an hour ago, and was so taken with the beauty of it that, rather than asking me when I was returning for dinner, he took one of the blooms to put up in our quarters. I almost stopped him, but he seemed so happy, and it was one of the ones from the tourist market. If there is some reason they should not be spread about, it is probably too late already. And he thought I would like to have it there. I have a wonderful husband.

"The only issue we have discovered so far with Dancer that could account for anything is the scent. When kept in an enclosed space the scent grows quickly to an almost unbearable level. It is pleasant, but too much of even a good thing is still too much. One of the techs has opened the vents and rerouted the ventilation system to circulate the air. Miles said even the corridors smelled nice as he came in.

"I am going to work some more on Beachrunner tonight, before I look over the Dancer notes to prepare them for the report to Doctor Crusher tomorrow. You know... one of these blooms would look quite lovely in her hair. I wonder why I didn't think of that before.

"Computer, end log."

It has been one full solar day since Keiko's last log was made, and in that time things aboard the Enterprise have grown truly unusual. The ship is well out of Pacifica's range by now, returned to open space, but things are not back to normal.

News of the Botany Lab's breakdown has spread by this point, as any are invited to help manage the issue.

[OOC: Party Post! Come get your top-levels and scenarios below! This post signifies the end of our February plots with some cool-off time before March begins. Hit up the OOC comm if you have any questions.]

Captain's Log, stardate 45115.6: The Enterprise has been sent to Pacifica at the behest of Governor Delaplane and the Pacifican Council, to oversee the renewal of the Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security between the Federation colony and the planet's native inhabitants, the Selkies. The results of this redesigned treatise will ensure the continued peace of Pacifica for another one hundred and fifty years, and I consider it my great honor to oversee the proceedings.

In the week since the Enterprise docked in orbit around Pacifica, representatives for both the Pacifican government and its tribal council have been brought to the Enterprise as our distinguished guests, where negotiations have taken place without incident. Now, the negotiations shall move to the underwater city of hi'Leyi'a for the final week of our stay here, and as is customary among the Pacificans I will become their guest and dine with them tonight at a banquet where many of their local delicacies will be presented. I am very much looking forward to the opportunity...

"End recording." Picard rises from his desk and makes his way out of his ready room, leaving command of the ship once again in Commander Riker's capable hands. Lieutenant Worf is already in Transporter Room 3, making the necessary arrangements for Captain Picard and his small complement to be beamed to the planet's surface. Those from the botany lab engaged in studies on Pacifica have already gone down, along with a number of the ship's civilian life, which has been keeping both their transporter rooms and shuttlebays quite busy as requests are made to send people down, back, and sometimes back down again several times a day.

He sighs as the turbolift doors hiss shut behind him, and after a moment's pause requests: "Ten Forward."

As eager as he may be to dine on Pacifica tonight, the privilege for a captain is always accompanied by an obligation—a duty—to endure certain dishes that may not always be what one would consider... palatable. It is a small sacrifice every captain and ambassador of peace must make in the name of diplomacy, and for it he will need several bracing cups of tea.

It is an unusual sight for many, perhaps, but Captain Picard is occupying a table in Ten Forward with a full tea service set in front of him, and an entire table full of empty chairs. One might say that in itself was inviting company.

When Luna got word of the upcoming Pacifica stop she was actually excited. Even now she was always up for exploring and whatever misadventures came up along the way. At the same time however she was still a teenager and well attractive men without shirts was icing on the cake.

(Option 1: Moon Frog Hunt)

Luna had her notebook in one hand as she stalked out one of many ponds, she remembered something her father had mentioned about the frogs and knew being around so much water would only up the chances of a sighting (and there was so many other creatures that live around water as well). Her wand however had been charmed into its usual chopstick mostly as a precaution but there was also a flower tucked into the teen's ponytail and radishes in her ears.

"So curious!" she was smiling now as a little frog hopped past her perch.

(Option 2: Beach Front)

At heart however Luna was still a teenage girl so she also had planned on some beach time to not just swim and enjoy the sun but to people watch (attractive men without shirts was just icing on the cake she decided) and learning a few new water sports. She had even gotten her hands on a tasteful two piece swimsuit (with magical help to cover her scars from the manor). But for the first time in weeks her heart was lighter, she could not explain it but Luna decided to just enjoy the break from her private pain.

"But now see if anyone would teach me to surf."

(Option 3: Submersible Research Institute)

The Ravenclaw in her however wanted to learn while having fun. So Luna signed up for a tour of the Submersible Research Institute. Sure she may not understand all of it but she could not pass up the chance to learn while having another adventure.

It is once again that time when the medical team under command of Dr. Crusher has cleared a sizable number of new passengers for ship-wide access, and so that means it is Worf's duty to assign them quarters and instruct them on the correct behavior and protocols needed for life aboard the Enterprise. If the standing crew know what is good for them, they will ignore what happened last month. The indignity will not soon be forgotten by the Chief of Security.

The new arrivals have been given the basic tour of the Enterprise by Chief O'Brien, and so now gather together in Ten Forward, awaiting further instructions. As Worf has done this before, he has a speech prepared:

"The computer will instruct you on where all cleared-for-access decks are. You only have to ask where the area you are trying to get to is located, and it will give you clear directions. Do not visit any restricted areas. The bridge, engine rooms, transporter rooms, and all command centers are off-limits.

"With that in mind, there are a few rules you must obey before I give you your new assignments. One, do not discharge any weapon while on the Enterprise. Two, do not assault any other passenger aboard in any way; that includes injury, death, or violating their personal rights. Three, do not tamper with the operational procedures of the ship. Four, do not steal items or technology from the ship. Five, do not interrupt any official areas of the ship without proper authorization, and do not invade the privacy of other guest or crew quarters.

"Copies of the Prime Directive will be made available to all of you, and placed in each room. As you are not Starfleet officers, you are not obligated to abide by this rule; however, it is important you understand why we do.

"Now, the rooms," he rumbles, preparing to read off the list of quarters, their location, and the guests who will be sharing them. Something makes him pause. "Ah," he says, straightening his shoulders, but his face is devoid of humor when he announces: "There is to be a wedding. The current occupants of room #0767 and #0769 will be getting married in a few weeks, and have submitted a formal request to change rooms."

It may look as if the Klingon is unhappy, but he isn't. This is just how he normally looks. "Their current roommates will be reassigned to the following quarters:

Deck 7, Section 4

Room # 0712 - Edward Tivrusky
Room # 0723 - Galen and Grainne O'Brian
Room # 0728 - Genesis Rhapsodos and Thor Odinson
Room # 0749 - Johanna Mason and Amadahy Lavellan
Room # 0767 - Annie Cresta and Finnick Odair
Room # 0769 - Raiden and Magneto

Deck 9

Room # 0912 - Elizabeth DeWitt and Booker DeWitt
Room # 0928 - Dimo and Charlemagne Bolivar
Room # 0934 - Luke Skywalker and Alex Rogan

"I will remain here to answer questions," Worf concludes. "And my team will be standing by to escort you where you need to be." Pause. "That is, I will answer questions about the rooms, not the wedding." Never a bridesmaid, never a bride.

The list is also displayed on a PADD, where people can refer to it if they need to.

[ooc: Open log for building CR with new roommates and meeting neighbors, "party post" style! Rooms are aligned the way they would be in a typical hotel: odd numbers on the left, even numbers on the right (so 0711 and 0713 will be next door neighbors, while 0712 is directly across the hall). There is a post in the OOC comm where players can connect with questions and find more details about the rooms themselves, so check in over there. If you need to ask security questions, or need them to swing by another thread, just put "Security officer, please!" in the subject line of your tag, and the mods will send someone to you ASAP. ]

If this is your first trip to Sickbay, you may be surprised to see that it's a fairly ordinary-looking hospital. There are no terrifying devices or humming machines you might see in a sci-fi thriller. The biobeds along the walls are equipped with biofunction monitors, but look fairly standard. Instead of silver trays filled with metal tools and sawblades, there are an array of small devices that look as harmless as cell phones. As for the staff, they're all well-groomed and friendly — even the more unusual aliens.

If you're new to the ship, no doubt you've been escorted here by the security team. Nothing to worry about, the doctors just want to make sure you aren't carrying any viruses or are vulnerable to terrible space disease. Once you've been checked over — a quick scan from a tricorder and any necessary vaccines — you'll be free to go. Lollipops are optional.

"All right, step on in," one of them calls out as you enter. "Don't be afraid. It's just a scan and a hypospray, nothing to worry about."

[ooc: Sickbay is, as always, OTA and open until the next one goes up for latecomers! For new characters: tagging isn't mandatory but IC going to sickbay is. If you'd prefer to skip threading with one of our doctors, you can handwave that your character got a clean bill of health and a shot and were sent on their merry way. There will be a post up in the OOC comm shortly with more details about Sickbay and which doctors are on deck this month, if you have any questions.]

The first sound was the traditional pop.

Then came the sound of a crash against a pillar in Ten Forward as a scooter hit head on.

Its driver looked to be a casually dressed (skinny jeans, tee, boots and a bomber jacket) young woman in her early 20s with a backpack full of computer gear and appears to be unharmed (outside of a few bruises and a mild concussion). But the scooter is in worse shape since a headlight has gone flying along with what looks to be the bumper. After hopping off the scooter long enough to quickly check the damage the woman known by her alter ego of Radical Edward spoke if only to herself.

"That was a nasty wrong turn! I know the Space Gate should not have backfired that much since its the one most Cowboys take as a shortcut." the woman spoke, especially since she had triggered that gate to close off since she was being chased by a bounty gone wrong. But when she realized this was not the arrival port on Ganymede (mostly since she was now in a bar and the star patterns did not add up to anything she knew) she knew something was amiss and it was not a simple backfired wrong turn at the Space Gate. She also had something else on her mind: finding the flying parts to her wheels.

"Anyone see a headlight or a bumper go flying by? Because Edward knows parts went flying but has to be sure what happened."
