[Ten Forward] Rooming Assignments | Round #3

They are entering their third month of this nonsense, and Lieutenant Worf will never admit that the increased activity and responsibility is ... thrilling. He is as stone-faced as always, glaring out over the assembled crowd without a hint of happiness. The medical team have cleared through a new crop of passengers, all needing permanent lodgings. So Ten Forward is where you will find yourselves today, staring down the barrel at an unhappy Klingon.

As chief of security, it is Worf's responsibility to instruct everyone on the correct behavior and protocols needed for life aboard the Enterprise. It is his duty, and the captain's instructions, so he will handle this the honorable way. As he has done this before, he has a speech prepared:

"The computer will instruct you on where all cleared-for-access decks are. You only have to ask where the area you are trying to get to is located, and it will give you clear directions. Do not visit any restricted areas. The bridge, engine rooms, transporter rooms, and all command centers are off-limits.

"With that in mind, there are a few rules you must obey before I give you your new assignments. One, do not discharge any weapon while on the Enterprise. Two, do not assault any other passenger aboard in any way; that includes injury, death, or violating their personal rights. Three, do not tamper with the operational procedures of the ship. Four, do not steal items or technology from the ship. Five, do not interrupt any official areas of the ship without proper authorization, and do not invade the privacy of other guest or crew quarters.

"Copies of the Prime Directive will be made available to all of you, and placed in each room. As you are not Starfleet officers, you are not obligated to abide by this rule; however, it is important you understand why we do.

"Now, the rooms," he rumbles, reading off the list of quarters, their location, and the guests who will be sharing them.

Room # 0742 - KITT's hologram and Andrew McKee

Deck 08, VIP Quarters
Room #0142 - Kathryn Janeway and Jonathan Archer
Room #0143 - Gul Dukat and Tora Ziyal
Room #0144 - James T. Kirk and John Sheppard

"I will remain here to answer questions," Worf concludes. "And my team will be standing by to escort you where you need to be."

The list is also displayed on a PADD, where people can refer to it if they need to.

[ooc: Open log for building CR with new roommates and meeting neighbors, "party post" style! Everyone should participate if and when they can, so they can get acquainted with who they will be rooming with for at least the next several months. Rooms are aligned the way they would be in a typical hotel: odd numbers on the left, even numbers on the right (so 0711 and 0713 will be next door neighbors, while 0712 is directly across the hall). There is an OOC post in the OOC comm where players can connect with questions, and where we'll post more details about the rooms themselves, so check in over there. If you need to ask security questions, or need them to swing by another thread, just put "Security officer, please!" in the subject line of your tag, and the mods will send someone to you ASAP.]

Room 0744 / Security

[personal profile] goldencobra 2014-07-24 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
The room looked just like the one Gold had just without the spinning wheel. The room appeared to be empty and Henry decided to check it out thoroughly, including the private rooms. Since he had a roommate, he waited in the main living area after his exploration to greet them. Hopefully they'd get along. Whoever they were.

///

But before Henry entered the room, he spent sometime staring at the security officer. He wasn't human. His forehead was different. He continued to stare until he figured out a way to ask about them, not realising he probably making the man nervous.

"Why does your forehead have mountains on it?"

Angeal listened once again to the Klingon that had informed him the rules of conduct. They all made sense to the soldier. With a nod, he picked up his PADD and stood up from his seat at Ten Forward.

He followed the map while he navigated the corridors to his given room. He stopped just shy of his assigned room number and on the PADD, he checked to see who his neighbors were. To his surprise, he recognized this area. Genesis had taken him here before and he looked over his shoulder to see if he could see her.

Quickly, he glanced around, his eyes studied the people that were doing the same. He turned back to face his room once again and entered the given quarters. Inside seemed so cold and empty. Inside his pockets were the seeds of the Banora white trees that Genesis had managed to save, which were the only things left of their hometown.

Once inside, he looked around and saw the darkness of space. So vast, Angeal felt small and he sighed while he took his steps further into the space. He chose the room furthest from the door and most likely the least desirable of the two. The reason for this was he didn't want to argue with his potential roommate. He as glad to have just the bed and he would have been fine.

Well there was something Harper knew was going to happen but he hoped it wouldn't. He was going to be sharing. The quarters already looked like someone had been in them longer than he had. The engineer had a magical way of just taking over an area and making it a mess even when he had very few things. There was a reason in the end he'd moved out of crew quarters on the Andromeda and set up home in machine shop 17. There was also his little nest on the Eureka Maru, there were no other suitable words for it but nest. He did still miss the top bunk right under the pipework where he could hide.

There were times when Beka insisted that things be cleaned up before they got up and walked away of their own accord. It had taken Harper a while to get out of the habit of storing up food like a squirrel waiting for winter. The machine shop at least was a majority of empty cans of Sparky Cola.

Kaylee had to admit that she was kinda impressed about the new quarters. She didn't think she'd had as much space she could say was her's ever. So there was maybe the engine room on Serenity but that wasn't exactly her's or where she as meant to be sleeping. Still it was something to be missed. It needed decorating too, in Kaylee's opinion. She'd just have to wait and see what her new roommate was like.

[For Simon (and interruptions?]
Kaylee was annoyed. It took a lot for her to get annoyed but it seemed like this 'verse was just as much ready to put anything it could between her and Simon as the one they'd come from. So they were only next door but that was still more than she'd care after what he'd finally said to her in the middle of the battle. She glared at the space between the two doors. "Jīngcǎi..."

The meeting the security officer was perfect. Nice clear rules stated, just the sort of thing a werewolf likes. He will behave himself, at least to the letter of the law.

Clay hasn't shared a bedroom since he was five so this should be interesting.

Clay enters the room he has been assigned and instantly catches his new roommates scent. The scent is cataloged and he makes an extra mental note that he is sharing this place with him.

Taking a deep breath before he locates the bed that Seamus doesn't seem to be using. The mess doesn't bother the werewolf, he isn't much better so that is something.

To have more permanent quarters than the temporary ones she'd had before was welcome, though it reinforced to Irian the fact that she was still trapped here; the fact that they were being assigned private rooms meant that no one believed they were going anywhere anytime soon.

She had been an officer for some decades, first in the Tal Shiar and then in the Romulan Republic, and was unused to sharing quarters. Being spied upon, yes, but physically sharing her space with someone else was an uncomfortable novelty. Still, she was simply going to have to grow used to it. The door to the guest suite opened for her, and she walked in — and almost immediately stopped still at the sight of the human child sitting there in the common area.

Elements above and beyond, had they assigned her a child for her roommate? She'd never had children, had never spent any time around children for more than a few moments. And yet... here was this little boy. He didn't look like a twenty-fourth century child. He'd probably never even seen a Rihanha before.

"Hello," she addressed him, a little abruptly. For a woman normally so quick with words, she had little idea of what to say here — and that made her nearly more uncomfortable than the rest of it.

[personal profile] dreams_dont_die 2014-07-24 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
He misses a lot of things about the Andromeda Ascendant. Andromeda herself is the most notable, but one of the others is definitely the captain's quarters. The Glorious Heritage Class is a big, elegant, well-equipped design with the best facilities a captain could wish for, including the VIP and officers' quarters. He's been captain of the Andromeda for more than four years, and his quarters on the Crimson Eclipse before it were more than sufficient.

Not that he can't get by in guest quarters. He's stayed in plenty of worse accommodations than the temporary quarters here, but he does miss his quarters with their little remnants of his long-lost life, like the Go board where he used to play with Gaheris, the photograph that's all he has left of Sara, and the familiarity of home. Or as close as he has anymore.

But as guest quarters go, the ones on the Enterprise are comfortable enough. If small.

The door slides open, and a young blonde steps into the room, glancing about curiously.

Lucie saw that she was rooming with a bloke. At least, she assumed he was a bloke, with a name like "Dylan Hunt." A bit macho, wasn't it? "Dylan Hunt." She could picture a romance novel starring an American Civil War soldier named "Dylan Hunt," romancing some sweet young thing named, like, Kathleen O'Hara, and he'd be shirtless on the cover, helping Kathleen out of her corset or something.

Of course, there are women named Dylan. Mostly Welsh, in her experience. That wouldn't be too bad, would it?

"Hello?" she called out cautiously. "Anyone here?"

Dylan's in one of the two bedrooms, examining the computing device he's just picked up off the desk. It's strange; big, bulky, inflexible, awkward after a lifetime using flexies. It's going to take time to get used to losing thousands of years of technological advancements.

He drops it back on the desk when he hears the voice from the main room.

"Yeah."

He turns and heads back for the main room, curious to meet Lucie Miller, his new roomie.

"Hi," he says as the door opens and he steps through. He stops, surprised, with a little frown. She's ... he's not sure what he expected, but young and blonde and pretty probably wasn't it. "I'm Dylan. Captain Dylan Hunt. And you must be Lucie."

Her jaw drops. He's...

He's....

...so old!

And he's wearing a uniform. Her thoughts of a romance novel cover return to her brain (except he's so old! Gross!), and she starts shaking her head.

"No. Ohhh, no. No, no no, no."

She steps up towards him and jabs a finger into his chest.

"Don't you get any funny ideas, boyo. I didn't ask for this assignment, and I didn't ask to share the room with a bloke."

Still holding onto his bag with force, not sure of this new roommate he was given, he did manage a smile when she entered. Standing up, he moved a little closer and held out his hand in greeting.

"Hi. I'm Henry." It was true he'd never seen her species before but while he was curious, he was still trying to be polite. Sadly, with the tact on the his maternal side of his family, he sometimes failed. "I'm human. What's your species?"

Harper isn't so much for behaving. He should be in the brig already, he's just avoiding it.

Harper heard the sound of someone entering. He appeared from his side of the quarters. "Hey, Clayton right?" If he'd heard right. "Seamus Zelazny Harper, but call me Harper." Most did, in Dylan's case it was Mr. Harper when he needed to pay attention and when he got Seamus or his full name from Beka then it was trouble. Usually trouble he'd caused but still.

Along the way to his assigned quarters, Angeal noted the sterility of the ship. It was for the best that at times emotional attachments could present a problem whenever there was the chance of attack. The vastness of space offered very little comfort in a psychological point of view and Angeal did his best not to dwell on that.

He was used to the surroundings of trees, birds, and other creatures from the land and sea. He did admit to himself that the vessel he found himself on was an elegant one with clean lines and smooth edges as he stopped to admire the ship's digital map on the view screen.

His arms folded in his study, a sign of focus and a willingness to learn, he didn't think that the size of the Enterprise was an issue in the least. Then, the comparison had struck him. It was about the size of ShinRa and his brow knitted in thought with a soft sigh with a stroke to his chin. The stubble scrapped against the leather of his gloves, he noticed that the ship was mostly engine with the saucer area as the work spaces, medical and living quarters. Was he reading this right?

He canted his head to the side with a slight shift of his weight. He looked over his shoulder and noticed that he wasn't the only one in this hall. "A moment of your time," Angeal said in a calm, distinct voice, "Are you familiar with space travel?" It was abundantly clear to Angeal that he was out of his element.

He looks Harper in the eye and nods, "Yes". Clay walks over to the bed and realizes he doesn't have anything to put down. Turning back towards Harper, "how do you have so much?"

Clay will probably end up in the brig at some-point, he just can't always control his temper, no matter how much he wants to, but so far there hasn't been any reason. Maybe they'll share a cell.

Harper smells human and it only just occurred to him that he might want to tell his roommate that he isn't. Clay still hasn't made up his mind.

His chin lifts and he looks down at her (it is down, because he must have about a foot in height on her) and the finger she's jabbing at him. His eyebrows raise.

"And if I'd had my choice, I'd be rooming with a member of my crew, or nobody at all."

It's been a long time since he had to share quarters with somebody, but he worked his way up to captain the same way anyone else does, and that means a lot of time spent sharing junior officers' quarters before he made it to having his own. Some of them with women.

"Don't worry," he says, reaching to brush at the hand she's prodding him with, "I know how to share quarters."

Some moments later, after most of the people have moved into their rooms (judging by the emptiness in the halls, and the slight quiet on the floor), Rose heads over to Room 0748.

There's a man just up ahead of him, arms crossed, looking at one of the maps of the ship that appear in places on the corridors. There's no need for anything like that on the Andromeda, where anywhere he goes, he can ask Andromeda for plans, directions, or assistance, where any of the screens can pull up whatever information she wants to show him.

Dylan studies the man in passing; he's tall, strong, built along similar lines to Dylan, maybe even to a Nietzschean, but without the tell-tale bone blades on his arms. He's about to give a nod and pass him by when the guy looks up and, very politely, asks him a question.

Dylan smiles and stops.

"I ought to be, I've served on Argosy starships most of my life," he says, and heads over to the guy.

"I'm Captain Dylan Hunt. I command a ship called the Andromeda Ascendant. How can I help?"

"Ah, good, then I won't have to go into great lengths to explain that I don't have a clue. I appear to be in good company. I'm Angeal Hewley. Nice to meet you." He omitted his rank on the idea that he was leaving behind a life that no longer was his to live. Angeal's soft chuckle was enough to break the sharp edge of his own nerves. He visibly relaxed and indicated with a nod toward the display.

"Any idea, Captain, how to use this? My technological experience of this caliber is a bit limited and I don't have much luck with machines." Angeal admitted with a lopsided grin. He didn't like asking for help but in this case, he definitely needed the advice. He didn't need a replicator incident repeat on a device that everyone needed to use.

Huh. The guy's eyes are glowing.

That's something you don't see every day, even when your days involve flying around the Three Galaxies meeting new people and trying to sign worlds up to the new Commonwealth. But Dylan doesn't comment, just shrugs.

"I have the opposite problem," he admits, eying the screen that Angeal's looking at, but he takes a couple of steps closer to look at it closer. "The technology I'm used to has a couple of thousand years on this."

The lack of what Harper called 'proper AI' on this ship is still disconcerting to him. He knows, of course, that captains and crews flew starships before the invention of the sophisticated AI the High Guard used in its ships, but everything in his training and his experience taught him to command an AI, a ship that played just as much a part in his command as the crew.

"But I should be able to work it out. What are you looking for?"

"Oh?" Angeal canted his head a bit and listened. He turned to face Dylan to give his undivided attention. The soft glow of his bright blue eyes didn't seem to dim in the slightest nor give the impression that he was being judgmental.

"Odd how one moves through time and space, but to be in your past I have stepped into a future just as distant. I think you're far better qualified." He nodded once.

"Actually, I was thinking of finding something that I can be useful in. I heard rumor of a lab that handles plants. I think I might be better suited there. My military knowledge isn't as advanced." He thumbed the great sword on his back. "I have a lot of catching up to do."

He knows some of his new neighbors, and he's kind of glad to have Tyr next door, someone he knows and trusts to have his back if he needs it.

Even if the other name in that room is Telemachus Rhade. Telemachus Rhade who kept Tarazed from him. Telemachus Rhade who he can't even look at without being reminded of Gaheris.

Telemachus Rhade, who he's going to make a problem for another day.

He's checking out the rooms on the other side of them now. Just opposite the security team who are Dylan's other next door neighbors is room 0751, and there are two people in there he hasn't met yet.

He knocks on the door, ready to greet whoever opens it with a friendly, "Hi".

It's been a chaotic few days.

He still doesn't have his head around the concept that they're so suddenly in a different time and a different place, most likely even a different reality, because it's one where the Alliance seems not to exist.

And that's on top of what happened on the planet.

He wishes River were here. He wishes he had any idea what had happened to her beyond the last glimpses he'd had of her warily eying the Alliance troops who'd been coming in to take Simon and the other wounded to their medical facility.

He wishes a lot of things.

And one of them, right now, is to be around Kaylee. The one solid, definite thing he can rely on here. The one person he knows.

His knuckles rap softly on the door of the room next door to his.

"Kaylee?"

[personal profile] dreams_dont_die 2014-07-26 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Thousands of years might not have been so much of a leap to Dylan were this still his reality, because the Commonwealth would still be there. The Commonwealth, the culture and history that had he'd been steeped in since childhood on Tarn-Vedra, that had stood for civilization and stability for thousands of years.

Here, he's as adrift as he is in the future he's been living in for the past year, because for all the similarities Trance mentioned, this Federation isn't his Commonwealth, this ship isn't High Guard, and here even the reflected authority of thousands of years of the now-gone Commonwealth is gone.

Here, he's just any other guy, out of his time and place.

"Sometimes, I'm not so sure," he says, but it's only an offhand comment. He nods at what Angeal says, but he smiles when he gestures to the sword. "Don't be so sure about that. I've been trained as a swordsman."

Just because the force lance he always wears on his thigh is his preferred weapon, the one that feels as natural as an extension of his arms, doesn't mean that he's not more than capable of using other weapons. The Argosy knew there'd be times when its members wouldn't be able to carry the weapon that said High Guard as much as the uniform he's wearing.

That's not the issue here, though, and Dylan turns back to that after a moment.

"Sure. I'd be surprised if a ship this size didn't have some sort of hydroponics garden. The garden on the Andromeda's a key part of the life support and food supplies."

The head of security had told them to just ask the computer for instructions, and that's something Dylan knows how to do. Even if he doesn't entirely know just how to address this computer. This ship isn't sentient, not like Andromeda, so calling it by name probably won't work.

What did the security chief say? Ask the computer. Maybe just 'computer', then.

"Computer," he says, his voice firm. "Show the location of the hydroponics garden. Or ..." after a moment's thought, he revises his request, "hydroponics lab."

After the case of mistaken identity Kaylee opens the door a little more carefully. The reaction is a little different also. A happy smile and she's moving towards him to throw her arms around him and hug him tightly as if she never wants to let him go.

She needs this, him, Simon. Kaylee needs to know he's okay still. Yes she's still annoyed as anything about that wall being in the way but there's more than just the obvious reason behind it all. There's still the loss of Wash and Book to deal with. "How you feelin'? I don't care what you think you're gonna be takin' it easy for a while."
